What GharPeShiksha is

GharPeShiksha is an Indian home tutoring service that connects parents and students with private tutors who teach at the student's home, at the tutor's home, or online. The homepage describes it as "a home tuition bureau headquartered in New Delhi," and the footer names the operating company as Tenali Education Academy Pvt. Ltd., with a contact address on Patel Road, New Delhi. Home tuition is the core of the service, but the site also sells online video courses for CBSE classes 9 and 10 and runs live online classes.

It serves two sides. Families use it to find a tutor for a child, from nursery up to class 12 and the JEE and NEET entrance exams. Tutors, including college students and working professionals, use it to find students and earn part-time income. The homepage says "Our family of tutors are as big as 80000+ and it's increasing everyday," and its Delhi section says "Almost 70,000+ tutors have registered themselves with the company," adding that GharPeShiksha "has been successfully providing home tuition in Delhi-NCR for the past 8 years." The site calls itself "the leading company in providing Home tutors to the needy parents and students," a claim it makes about itself.

What a family gets

The request form promises to "Get a Home/Online Tutor Within 30 Minutes." A parent picks the class or course, from Nursery and Class I through Class XII, or Spoken English, Language, IIT-JEE, NEET, IELTS, Other Competitive, Hobbies, Programming Courses or IT Courses. They then choose a format: "One To One Classes," "Online Class (via Zoom, Google Meet, Skype etc)," "Home Tuition at My Home," or "Willing to travel to Teacher's Home." The form also asks for the board (CBSE, HBSE, ICSE or IGCSE), the state, the teacher's gender preference, the number of sessions a week (from two to six), the locality, and when the family wants to start. The form notes "Your number will be shared with Interested Teachers."

The homepage lists subjects including mathematics, biology, economics, history, science, physics, business studies, political science, Hindi, English, chemistry, French, computer science, accounts and geography, and levels from nursery to graduation, plus hobbies and spoken languages. The Delhi section adds Sanskrit, commerce, social science and biotechnology, and says tutors can teach the syllabus of "CBSE, ICSE, GCSE" and "All the state boards." It also notes home tutoring can go beyond the syllabus to "spoken English, language learning, improving handwriting, learning a particular instrument, etc."

Matching works from tutor profiles. The site says: "We register interested tutors on our website and create their profile which includes information like academic qualification, teaching experience, and address, etc. Students can search through our website on the basis of their preference, subject, and locality." When a student's needs fit a tutor's profile, GharPeShiksha informs both sides. The homepage shows "Verified Tutor" cards by tutor ID with experience figures such as 10, 15 and 25 years. Timings are agreed between family and tutor: "It is a mutual decision to fix the timings of the classes as per the convenience of both parties."

Using the service costs students nothing to join: "GharPeShiksha is free to use service for the students, they just need to sign up and fill their details so that we can find tutors in their locality." Families who are unsure can book a free first session; the homepage invites them to "Take a free online counselling class from GharPeShiksha and clear your confusions" and to "BOOK FREE ONLINE DEMO."

The site's terms for parents set some ground rules worth reading before hiring: "Tuition fees should be paid through our platform only," "Classes should only be conducted in the presence of a guardian," parents should "Verify the tutor's identity before starting classes," and GharPeShiksha "connects students with tutors but does not guarantee academic success." The site does not publish tuition rates for families, as fees are agreed with each tutor.

Online classes and courses

Alongside one-to-one tutoring, GharPeShiksha runs an online learning platform. The menu lists online courses for CBSE Class 9th and Class 10th with a "Buy a Course" option, and matching study material for both classes. The site says it provides "coaching classes for CBSE, ICSE, and other state board students of all classes from 6th to 12th with every subject taught by an expert teacher," and "Online Video classes for all subjects are available on our website." The format mixes live and recorded teaching: "We provide both live video classes and recorded lectures to give our students a classroom-like experience. You can ask your doubts in between the classes during our LIVE Online Master Classes. At the end of every chapter a separate doubt-discussion session is arranged to clear all your doubts." Practice comes with the notes: "regular assignments, NCERT solutions for all subjects, daily homework, and weekly tests."

On exams, the site claims: "Entrance exams like JEE and NEET which are considered very tough, have been consistently aced by our students." It gives no figures behind that statement. The services list also includes "One-to-One Group Tuition."

Where it operates

The tutor FAQ states: "Our Home Tuition services are available in Delhi, NCR, Mumbai and nearby, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Ahmedabad. Our Online classes services are in PAN India." The homepage city list for home and online tutors is Delhi, Mumbai, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Ghaziabad, Faridabad, Noida, Hyderabad, Gurugram, Pune, Bengaluru and Kolkata.

What a tutor gets

For tutors, the model is a paid membership that gives access to student contacts, with no commission. The FAQ says "There will be the Membership Plans to Buy Contact Views of Students. We do not charge any Commission from teachers, but you can start with our free plan," and "We don't charge any commission or any other fees other than Membership charges. Whatever the Tutor earns by teaching, belongs to them only." The free plan gives a start: "After the documents of a tutor is verified, they are given two contact details of student for free." Paid membership "is valid for up to 6 months," renewable "by paying required amount." The pages do not list membership prices.

Verification requires "One clearly visible photo, academic certificates, proof of residency and Aadhar Card," and the terms ask for address proof such as "Aadhaar, Voter ID, Passport, etc." After verification "an activation call is made and then you will start receiving the contact details. This whole process takes up to 24 hours." Relevant teachers are notified of new student requirements "on SMS & Email" and contact the student "directly on call." Tutors can also host students at their own place if the student is willing to travel. The site says it hires "college students for online private tutoring jobs" and that "We take interviews to ascertain the quality that a newcomer can impart."

The earnings figures differ between two parts of the same page. A banner shows "Minimum 15,000+ per month @2hr/day" and "Maximum 50,000+ per month @3-5hr/day," while the FAQ says "Tutors can earn up Rs.10,000 (2 hours/day)- Rs.25,000 (3-5 hours/day)." If a parent pays less than agreed, the FAQ points tutors to a helpline. A mobile app is offered for download.

Testimonials come from both sides. Mr. Ashwani, a tutor, writes: "I have been a happy teacher with gharpeshiksha for the past 3 years." Mr. Amarendra Kumar Pand writes that GharPeShiksha "opened the door of opportunities for me after I lost my job due to COVID crises." A student, Mr. Harleen Singh, writes that "Its expert faculty has made the concepts simpler and fun to learn," and tutor Mr. Mohit Tyagi writes: "I am a chemistry faculty.I have 18 yrs experience."

Who it suits and who it does not

GharPeShiksha suits Indian families in Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Ahmedabad and the other listed cities who want a tutor to come to the home, with choices for board, gender preference and sessions per week, and families anywhere in India who want an online tutor. It fits school students from nursery to class 12, JEE and NEET aspirants, and students in CBSE Class 9th or 10th who want a recorded and live online course with tests. It also suits college students and teachers looking for part-time tuition work without paying commission.

It suits less well a family that wants published tuition rates up front or an outcome guarantee, which the terms rule out, or a parent who expects a single vetted teaching staff: the tutor pool is large, mixed and checked through documents, an activation call and interviews rather than a fixed teaching qualification.
