What FindTutors is
FindTutors is a tutoring marketplace: an open directory where independent private tutors publish ads and students, parents and adult learners find and contact them, for lessons in person or online. It serves two readers at once. A learner uses it to find a tutor for a school subject, an exam, a language, an instrument or a hobby; a tutor uses it to advertise lessons, set a price and build a client base without being employed by an agency. FindTutors does not hire the tutors or run the lessons itself, so the quality of each lesson rests with the tutor a student picks.
The homepage puts the size of the catalog first: "4,086,126 ads for private lessons in over 350 subjects." Further down it says "4,786,520 students Have already found a tutor on FindTutors," and under the heading "The leader in Europe" it describes itself as "one of the largest tutoring platforms, with more than 200,000 tutors in the UK." The footer dates the company from 2007, and the homepage adds "Since 2007 we have helped millions of students find the perfect tutor." A "FindTutors around the world" list names Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Turkey and the United Kingdom, so the UK site is one country edition of a wider network.
What a student gets
The search starts from three choices on the homepage: "I'm looking for a tutor," "I am looking for a language school," and "I'm looking for students" for tutors. Besides individual tutors, the site also lists tuition centers and lets institutions register, so a learner can compare a private tutor with a school in the same search.
Subjects run wide. The homepage groups them into languages (English, French, Italian, Arabic, Spanish, German, Japanese and Chinese tutors), sciences (math, physics, chemistry, algebra, biology, statistics), school tuition and exam preparation (primary, secondary, GCSE, A Level and university tutors, plus IELTS), computer science and technology (programming, graphic design, AutoCAD), music, art and sports (guitar, piano, drums, violin, dance, drawing, painting, photography, personal trainers, yoga, boxing), and economics, business and the humanities (law, economics, accounting, history, geography, social science). The page sums it up as "tutors for hundreds of subjects, languages, disciplines, technical and artistic specialities... and for all levels!"
There are two lesson formats. "In-person lessons" are with "Private tutors who come to your home or teach near you." "Online lessons" are "Lessons via video call (Skype, Zoom, etc.) with an online tutor from the comfort of your home." The homepage lists the cities where most students search: Greater London, Birmingham, Manchester and Liverpool, with London, Leicester, Nottingham, Glasgow, Bristol, Cardiff, Leeds, Coventry, Edinburgh and Sheffield among the other popular ones.
Price is set by each tutor. The homepage tells students they can "Choose the perfect tutor from just £12/hr" and "Find your ideal tutor based on your needs, level, budget, etc." FindTutors also sells learners a paid pass: a blog post on the site describes the "StudentPass for learners, allowing them to contact multiple tutors for a monthly fee." The pages do not give the StudentPass price.
Students do not have to wait for a tutor to appear in search. The site's "two-way search" lets a learner post a request describing what they need, which tutors then browse. One blog post describes this as "student ads detailing their educational goals and needs, letting you reach out to learners," and another says tutors can "browse student ads where learners have posted requests for tutoring in specific subjects."
What a tutor gets
For tutors, the homepage invites them to "Join more than 200,000 private tutors advertised on FindTutors" and to "Sign up as a tutor for free." The site's own blog sets out the terms. Tutors can "set up a detailed profile and publish an advert to attract students without any upfront costs." They get "Full Pricing Control: Set your own hourly rates based on your subject expertise and experience," and "Flexible Scheduling: Choose when and how often you teach." On commission, a FindTutors post says "FindTutors allows you to take home everything you earn from your lessons," headed "Keep 100% of your earnings," and its pricing table lists the FindTutors App as "Free to download" with "0% commission." The same post adds that tutors can "chat with parents and students directly to discuss teaching methods and goals before the first lesson."
Paid extras exist on the tutor side. In a comparison table on its own blog, FindTutors lists its premium features as "Premium profile boosts, featured listing, priority support," and its safety measures as "Profile verification, review system." The same table puts average FindTutors tutor pay at £15 to £40 an hour, and the post says "Top tutors can earn up to £50 per hour depending on experience or the subject taught," with math and science often paying more because of demand.
The FindTutors app covers both sides. A blog post describes "a user-friendly mobile and desktop experience" in which tutors "schedule lessons directly with students while managing your profile, rates and availability."
Reviews and trust signals
The homepage carries several rating figures. A verified-reviews badge reads "206 reviews on verified-reviews.co.uk in the last 2 months with a grade of 9.2 / 10," the footer shows "9,5/10" from "802570 Students' reviews," and another badge reads "Excellent 4.6 out of 5." Three testimonials appear. Patrick, a math student's father: "The tutor was knowledgeable, patient, and tailored their teaching to my child's needs. My child's grades improved significantly. Highly recommend." Gilian, a chemistry student's mother: "FindTutors was a lifesaver for this busy mum! Our tutor was fantastic, and my child's grades improved significantly." Christine, a Spanish student: "I used FindTutors to learn Spanish and I couldn't be happier with the results."
The pages publish no background-check policy for tutors beyond "Profile verification, review system," so a parent hiring a tutor for a child should treat vetting as their own job.
Who it suits and who it does not
FindTutors suits a learner who knows the subject they need and is happy to choose a tutor themselves: a GCSE or A Level student after a specific tutor, an adult learning a language or an instrument, or someone looking for a niche skill such as AutoCAD, boxing or photography. The size of the catalog and the free tutor listing make it likely there is someone nearby or online, and the two-way search helps when nobody fits at first. The from £12 an hour entry point suits a family watching cost.
It also suits an independent tutor who wants to set their own rate, keep their own schedule and build their own students, without commission and without committing to an agency's minimum hours.
It suits less well a parent who wants a company to choose, vet and supervise the tutor, guarantee results or plan the curriculum. FindTutors is a directory, not a tutoring service: the student does the selecting, the tutor does the teaching, and quality varies with the tutor. Learners who want a structured program, progress reports or a fixed curriculum will find those only if the tutor they pick provides them.
