What EngVarta Is
EngVarta is an app for spoken English practice: a learner taps a button and is connected to a certified English expert for a live, one-to-one audio conversation. The home page headline promises live one-to-one practice "with Real Certified Experts," adding "not AI," and it promises "real-time corrections on every call." The company says it was established in 2017, says the app is made in India, and calls itself "India's most trusted spoken English practice platform," used by 2M+ learners worldwide. The home page also reports "10 Lakh+" sessions completed, a 4.5 star Play Store rating, a 4.8 star average expert rating, and an award as "Best English Learning App 2025."
The founder and CEO, Ashish Pandey, explains the idea in a note on the home page: "I've watched over 2 million learners go through the same struggle. The grammar they know but can't use. The confidence that comes and goes. The fear of being judged every time they open their mouth." His answer is not another course but "someone who shows up when you do." For this directory, EngVarta sits with tutoring and language learning: it is conversation practice with a human, not a grammar curriculum.
What a Learner Gets
The process has four steps on the home page: sign up in the app, choose a plan (session length, number of sessions and pace), call an expert with one tap, and practice daily with assignments, vocabulary, quizzes and recordings. There is no booking. The FAQ says: "Open the app, press 'Call English Expert,' and you're speaking. Available 7 AM to midnight, every day."
The FAQ describes a session in detail: "Your expert leads a natural conversation tailored to your goals. They correct your mistakes in real time," naturally and supportively. During the call, the learner gets real-time feedback on pronunciation, grammar and vocabulary. Afterwards, they receive a full recording available for 30 days, expert feedback, and practice assignments to complete before the next session. For learners who freeze, the expert is trained to guide them with prompts, simplify the conversation and help them find their words, without judging them. The FAQ adds that every learner starts somewhere.
One design choice stands out. Learners do not keep one tutor. The FAQ says "The system connects you with a different expert each time," and explains that this is intentional, because in real life people speak with many different people, which builds genuine confidence. Each expert is briefed on the learner's goals so they can pick up where the learner needs.
Sessions are audio only, with no video. The company presents that as a privacy and convenience feature: practice works on a commute, a lunch break or a walk home. On identity, the FAQ says "Your expert only sees your username. Your real name, phone number, and identity are never shared."
The audience is broad. The site has sections for working professionals, business owners, students, homemakers, kids and retired professionals, and the home page says "All levels welcome." Sample goals on the page include speaking fluently, preparing for an interview, cracking an entrance exam, speaking confidently at parent-teacher meetings, and leading meetings in English. Children can use it too: "Children aged 7-14 can learn on EngVarta under their parents' guidance," and experts are trained to engage young learners with "warmth, patience, and age-appropriate topics."
Beyond the calls, the app includes daily vocabulary, assignments and quizzes, and the company runs a YouTube channel listed with 1000+ lessons and a vocabulary section on the site. The footer also links an IELTS prep offer under the FixoLang name.
Experts
The home page describes its experts as "Not Just English Speakers. Certified Language Trainers," with badges for communication coaches, ESL specialists, TOEFL trained and TESOL certified. The company's own articles describe sessions as "audio-only 1-on-1 with TESOL/ESL-certified English Experts" and say many experts have IELTS Speaking training experience. Experts sign up through a separate "Join as Expert" route.
Pricing and Trial
The first session is a paid trial: $1 for a 10-minute session, which the home page calls 100% refundable. The trial page adds that the refund is available on request and "Applies to the trial session only," and the company's articles give the rupee price as ₹69. Payment at sign-up is processed through Razorpay.
After the trial, the FAQ says the cost "depends on the session duration and how many days you want to practice. Plans start at from $45 for 25 sessions," with the full set of options inside the app under Plans & Pricing. The company's articles put that entry pack at "$45 / ₹2,700 for 25 sessions ($1.80 each)," or $1.80 / ₹108 per session. There is no subscription: "Session packs are one-time purchases. You buy more when you run out." The company also lists a referral program.
Support is human and runs on the same hours: "Real human support, 7 AM to midnight. Not a chatbot," by email or WhatsApp.
What Learners Say
The home page shows Google Play and App Store reviews. Sudha G. writes: "I have completed 100 sessions. Today I can speak confidently with anyone and this confidence is a gift from EngVarta." Aravind M. says "All the experts are supportive and non-judgemental. After every session, constructive feedback is provided to enhance your skills." Harsha Tiwary mentions "Very good support with privacy of the clients. I enjoy the quiz and vocab sessions." One reviewer, Bhavesh G., notes that "Consistent daily practice of at least 10 minutes makes a huge difference," and Alisha Mahi calls it "Expensive but amazing and worth it."
Who It Suits and Who It Does Not
EngVarta suits adults and older children who understand some English but freeze when they have to speak it, and who want short, frequent practice with a human rather than an AI. The no-booking model and long daily hours make it easy to fit around work or family, the audio-only format protects privacy, and the session packs avoid a subscription. Working professionals preparing for interviews or meetings, students, homemakers and retired learners are all named audiences.
It is a weaker fit for learners who want to build a relationship with one teacher, since experts change every call by design. It is also not a full English course with a syllabus and certificate; it is practice and feedback. Learners who need dedicated exam coaching may want the separate IELTS prep offer alongside it.
