What Empower Tutoring Is
Empower Tutoring is an online, one-to-one tutoring service for high school students in Ontario, Canada. The home page sums up the offer as "1-on-1 Personalized Online Tutoring For High-School Students In Ontario," aimed at helping students "Increase grades, academic confidence, & post-secondary preparation." Lessons run over the internet, so any student in the province can take part, and the site lists service areas from Ajax, Barrie and Brampton to Mississauga, Oakville, Oshawa and Ottawa. It gives corporate offices in North York (Toronto) and Richmond Hill.
The subject list is math, chemistry, physics, science, English, computer science and French, plus IB and AP support, and the home page also shows biology. The footer gives the hours as 8AM to 9PM EST, 7 days a week. For this directory, it belongs with tutoring services and with K-12 programs for teenagers.
What Students Get
Every lesson is one-to-one and taught to the Ontario curriculum. The home page says its tutors "are based in Ontario and teach directly to the Ontario curriculum, ensuring lessons are aligned with what students are learning in school." The math page goes into detail: Grade 9 and 10 topics such as number sense, algebra, data analysis, measurement, geometry, quadratic relations and trigonometry, and for senior students rational and logarithmic functions, derivatives, calculus and vectors, and data management (counting, probability and statistics), plus financial literacy. Chemistry and physics run from Grade 9 to Grade 12, and English covers essay writing and reading comprehension in Grades 9 through 12.
IB and AP students are covered too. The math page says tutors "adapt their approach to match the specific structure, expectations, and assessment styles of IB and AP math courses." The focus is Grades 9 to 12, but the math page adds that the company also offers tutoring for elementary and university students who need help, on request.
The process has four steps on the home page: match with a tutor, a free 60-minute lesson, a personal academic plan, and then results. The FAQ explains that during the free first lesson the team assesses "the student's academic abilities, their learning style, academic goals, and personality to match them with the perfect tutor and build a customized program around them." Matching weighs personality, experience, subject expertise and availability.
Once matched, a student keeps the same tutor: the FAQ says "all your following lessons will be with that same tutor." Families get the tutor's contact details to schedule lessons directly, by text, call, email or WhatsApp, and educational consultants stay available for help. Set days and times are usually agreed for each semester after the trial, and can be moved when the tutor has open slots.
Each membership includes, according to the pricing page, a hand-picked tutor match, a personalized plan, "Progress reports after every lesson," an "Easy & flexible lesson scheduling app," help with grades and test scores, and "Student Wellness Mentorship." The math page adds mentorship and academic advice from the tutor, and regular progress check-ins for parents.
Tutors
The FAQ is candid about who teaches: "The majority of our tutors are enrolled in university programs, while a minority have professional experience or are certified teachers." It adds that "all our tutors have expertise in the subject they teach, whether it be through studying it at the university level or obtaining a PhD in the field." For math specifically, the math page says all math tutors "completed high school in Ontario, received their OSSD, and have at least 3 years of math tutoring experience." Tutor profiles on the home page show degrees such as a Bachelor of Medical & Biological Physics, a Master of Medical Physics, a Master of Mathematics, a Bachelor of Software Engineering and a Bachelor of Education, and several list the IB Diploma.
Pricing and Policies
Pricing is published as memberships billed every two weeks, with 60-minute sessions:
- 1 session a week: "$70 per session · $140 billed every 2 weeks" (2 lessons every 2 weeks).
- 2 sessions a week, marked most popular: "$65 per session · $260 billed every 2 weeks" (4 lessons every 2 weeks).
- 3 sessions a week: "$60 per session · $360 billed every 2 weeks" (6 lessons every 2 weeks).
The pricing page adds "No sales tax on tutoring, and pre-pay a term to save up to 10%," and the headline promise is "Transparent pricing, no contracts, no hidden fees." One membership covers "Any subject, any sibling," and there are "Easy pauses for breaks and holidays." A referral program is listed in the footer.
Lesson length is flexible within the package. The FAQ says packages assume 60-minute lessons, "However, you can allocate the 60 minute lessons however you'd like," whether as 2 hour lessons, 30 minute lessons, 3 times a week, or just once.
The first lesson is free: "a free, no-obligation 1-hour lesson." The cancellation policy needs "at least a 24 hours prior notice to the Tutor without incurring any fees," and lessons missed without that notice "shall be charged at the full rate." Under the late policy, a tutor waits up to 10 minutes before a student is counted absent without a refund, and the FAQ says that if the tutor has to cancel a lesson, they must also follow this policy.
What Families Say
Reviews shown on the site come from Google through Trustindex. One parent writes: "Our son had Jackson as his math tutor, and he was fantastic. He explained concepts in a simple, easy-to-understand way, and my son was thrilled with the sessions. The results showed in his math exam." Another describes a son with a learning disability who used the service through grades 10, 11 and 12 U courses, and says that when a tutor was sick before a test, "a match has always been found within less than half an hour!"
Who It Suits and Who It Does Not
Empower Tutoring suits Ontario families with a high school student who needs steady, curriculum-aligned help in math, the sciences, English, computer science or French, including IB and AP courses. The published prices, the free trial lesson, the absence of contracts and the sibling-friendly membership make it easy to budget and to try. Parents who want regular updates get a progress report after every lesson, and the same tutor all semester.
It fits less well for families outside Ontario, since the teaching is built on the Ontario curriculum, and for anyone who wants group classes or self-paced study. Families who specifically want a certified teacher should note that most tutors are university students; the FAQ is upfront that certified teachers are a minority. Elementary and university students can ask, but the service is designed around Grades 9 to 12.
