What Cambly is
Cambly is an online English tutoring service from Cambly Inc. that connects learners with native English-speaking tutors for live lessons. Its homepage message is "Learn real English. Make real progress," and it promises "Real conversations with native speakers," "All levels welcome," and lessons "Anytime, anywhere, 24/7." The main service is for adults (its Small Groups plan is marked for adults 21+), Cambly Kids teaches children aged 4 to 15, and the footer also lists Cambly for business and the Cambly Pro tier. The site itself can be read in English, Arabic, Spanish, French, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese, Turkish and Chinese.
The approach is conversation first. The homepage tagline under its progress section is "Progress, not perfection," with the promise that learners can learn from mistakes "without fear or judgment."
How learning works for adults
Cambly builds the experience around three steps on its homepage.
Start with your goals. Cambly recommends lessons, topics and activities based on what the learner wants to achieve, and the learner chooses what gets them talking. The page sums this up as "Focus on your unique goals" and "Choose the way you learn."
Meet the right tutors. Rather than one assigned teacher, learners build a team of tutors that matches their learning style and interests. The site suggests spending the first week meeting tutors and then gathering a learning team.
See your progress. Learners strengthen skills in lessons, then keep going with personalized activities based on those lessons, and can track how they grow over time.
Courses give structure for those who want it. The footer lists English courses in Fundamentals of English Fluency, Professional Development, Vocabulary Practice, Grammar Practice, Reading Practice, Express Yourself and Exam Preparation. Lessons can be taken on the web or through the Cambly app: "Take lessons from anywhere. Do practice activities anytime. Keep the learning going with our app."
Cambly also lets people look around before paying: "Not ready to commit yet? Explore all Cambly has to offer without a subscription."
Plans and prices
The pricing section on the main page shows three monthly plans in euros, each labeled "Starting from" with a higher monthly figure shown beside a lower one:
- Small Groups: €34 a month shown next to €24 a month. For adults 21+, it offers small group lessons with a tutor and 1-2 other students, plus unlimited pronunciation, grammar and vocabulary activities. Cambly says it suits learners who want to improve speaking and listening "with a mix of native english speakers and other accents."
- Private+: €72 a month shown next to €50 a month. It adds private one-on-one lessons, lesson recordings and transcripts after every lesson, automated feedback after every lesson, and access to all Cambly Courses. It is described as "Ideal for learners who want to practice real-life English conversations in a one-on-one environment to build confidence and fluency."
- Pro: €90 a month shown next to €63 a month. It adds exclusive access to Cambly Pro tutors, structured and goal-oriented lessons, targeted tutor feedback and self-study recommendations, for learners who want to reach their goals faster with more guidance.
Every plan lists "100% native English speaking tutors." The step up from Small Groups to Private+ is the main decision for most adults: group practice at the lower price, or one-on-one time with recordings to review afterward.
Who learns on Cambly
The homepage features three learners: Ana from Brazil, now working for a US company, who says "English was my barrier. I overcame that barrier and literally, doors opened"; Mehmet from Turkey, living abroad in Berlin; and Wei from China, working at UC Berkeley. Those examples point to the adult audience Cambly has in mind: people using English for work, study or a move abroad.
Cambly Kids
Cambly Kids offers "1-on-1 English classes for kids ages 4-15, taught by certified native English speaking teachers from around the world." Its method rests on three ideas the page spells out. Real communication: children always talk with live tutors in real time, which Cambly says helps them learn English "better and faster than by just memorizing words and phrases," and also builds listening and reading. Language skills: students listen while tutors read prompts, passages and stories, and speak by answering questions and discussing topics. Individualized instruction: tutors adapt to each student's needs and interests and respond to children's questions.
Courses follow the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR), which the page explains runs from A1 for beginners to C-level for near-mastery; Cambly Kids offers courses from A1 to C1, with learning plans to browse. The kids page says 100% of tutors are native English speakers and that many hold graduate degrees from top universities in the US, UK and Canada; sample tutor cards show ratings between 4.88 and 4.93.
The page tells the story of Raaid, who joined in January 2021, completed all courses by 2022, took 5 lessons a week, met 102 tutors and spent over 10,000 minutes practicing English. Parent and learner quotes come from Istanbul, Japan and Hangzhou; Dila's parent writes that before Cambly Kids, "Dila could only say colors and numbers in English."
Families can try it for free: signing up gives access to free games, quizzes and workbooks with no subscription required, and a trial lesson can be scheduled. On safety, the page displays the kidSAFE Seal and says families "can expect the highest level of safety" for their child.
For tutors and partners
Cambly also recruits. Its "Work your way" section invites native speakers to join the tutor community "to earn money whenever you want, wherever you are," and the footer adds an ambassador program.
Who it suits
Cambly suits adults who want regular speaking practice with native speakers at any hour, whether in a low-cost small group or one-on-one, and who like choosing their own tutors. Professionals and people relocating get courses such as Professional Development and Exam Preparation alongside free conversation, and the Pro plan adds more structure. Parents of children from 4 to 15 get a separate CEFR-leveled program with a free start.
It is an English-only service, so learners after another language need a different provider, and teenagers over 15 should check the plan terms, since Cambly Kids stops at 15 and Small Groups is marked for adults 21+.
