TutorABC is an online language school that teaches English and Chinese through live classes with human teachers. Its FAQ, written in Traditional Chinese for the Taiwan site that tutorabc.com opens on, says every course can be booked 24 hours a day and taken from anywhere, and that courses suit learners from age 4 to adults. In Taiwan the school concentrates on English, but its menu also covers Chinese for adults and children, exam preparation, study-abroad services and training for schools and companies. Overseas learners use the same teachers and courses through country sites, including an English-language one.

Class formats

The FAQ describes three ways to take a class:

  • 1-on-1 lessons, fully customized, with time for conversation practice and correction of pronunciation and grammar. After a lesson you can save a teacher you liked and book them again.
  • 1-to-4 small group classes, one teacher with four students at a similar level, which the FAQ says keeps the pressure lower and the practice livelier.
  • Master lectures, one teacher with many students, built around current affairs topics, interactive quizzes and, for exam learners, shared walk-throughs of IELTS, TOEFL and TOEIC mock questions.

Adult lessons last 45 minutes; children's and teens' lessons are 25 or 45 minutes depending on the plan. Every class can be replayed afterward. The TutorABC app adds free extras: unlimited online video lessons, a current affairs podcast, after-class AI speaking practice and vocabulary drills. You book in the member center or the app by choosing a date, a time slot and a topic, and reminders arrive 5 hours and 5 minutes before class.

English courses

For adults the FAQ groups English into three tracks. Everyday and travel English covers Customized English, Let's Speak for complete beginners, and Oxford Speak Now. Workplace English covers Cambridge Business English and an Oxford workplace English course, and the course menu adds an advanced critical thinking and expression course. Exam courses cover TOEIC, IELTS and TOEFL iBT. The FAQ's advice on choosing between them is practical: TOEIC for promotion or a job change, IELTS for joining a foreign company or working abroad, and TOEFL or IELTS for study abroad depending on the school. Exam courses combine 1-on-1 teaching with group mock-question sessions, regular mock tests and weakness analysis.

For children and teens, TutorABC Kids teaches preschoolers with National Geographic licensed materials, TutorABC Junior offers Oxford English and customized courses for primary school children, and TutorABC Teens supports middle and high school students, aligned with Taiwan's 108 curriculum and its entrance exams.

Chinese courses

The Chinese menu has conversation classes for adults and children plus exam courses for HSK, TOCFL, AP Chinese and GCSE Chinese. Chinese teachers are native speakers trained to a Chinese teaching standard, according to the teaching team page.

Teachers

TutorABC makes teacher selection a central claim. The FAQ says only 3-5% of applicants pass, every English teacher holds a TESOL or TEFL certificate, and the teaching team page puts native-speaker teachers at 95%. The teaching team page adds that English teachers come from over 100 countries, average 8+ years of experience, and are trained on a Cambridge English teaching framework. Profiles show each teacher's rating, degree, certificates and years of teaching before you book. Learners who are nervous about speaking can ask for a bilingual teacher at the start.

If you do not get on with a teacher, you rate the lesson and the system schedules that teacher less often, or your learning consultant adjusts things. If a teacher fails to show up, the FAQ says the lesson credit is returned automatically.

Matching, platform and data

The About page describes an AI matching system that uses hundreds of learning tags to pair each learner with teachers, classmates and materials, and the homepage cites 19 patented AI technologies behind it. The system refines its matches from your ratings after each class.

Materials are licensed from Oxford, Cambridge, Barron's and National Geographic. The homepage names Barron's, Cambridge, ETS, Kaplan and Oxford as official partners, and the FAQ adds the British Council and Chevening. According to the About page, TutorABC's own learning management system holds kidSAFE and COPPA certification, customer data is stored on AWS, and each region is managed separately.

Prices, payment and policies

TutorABC quotes prices individually, but the FAQ gives ranges: adult English classes cost about NT$550 to 2,200 each, and children's and teens' classes start at about NT$300. The teaching team page puts Chinese classes at about USD $32-45 each. Overseas learners pay according to their country site. The FAQ says limited-time offers are launched at irregular times each month. Payment is by credit card, LINE Pay or online transfer.

You can cancel or move a class free of charge up to 4 hours before it starts without losing a credit. After that the class cannot be canceled in the system, though you can still watch the replay. Refunds, per the FAQ, are calculated from when the contract started and how many lessons have been used.

To start, you book a free introductory class, which the site calls 免費體驗 ("free experience"): take a level test, get a call from a learning consultant, have a live lesson with a teacher, and receive a learning plan. Support runs through online chat, email and phone in Taiwan, and live online service for overseas users.

Companies and leadership

The FAQ says TutorABC has run online English training for 500+ well-known companies worldwide. Corporate plans include group discounts, a progress management system, regular results reports and custom materials for business conversation, presentations and email writing. The homepage case study describes a 3-year program for Hewlett Packard Enterprise executives, with custom courses and, per the case study, 100% of executives raised to Lvl 9 or above in English.

The About page introduces two co-chairmen. Rodney Miles, a retail and e-commerce executive with over 50 years of leadership experience, co-chairs TutorABC and TutorABC Shop. Samuel Yang, CFA, has been co-chairman and CEO since 2022 and brings over 25 years in education and investment banking.

The homepage cites 97% learner satisfaction, a 4.8 Google review rating from students and a 4.7 Trustpilot rating from teachers.

Who it suits

TutorABC fits busy adults who want short, bookable classes at any hour, especially for business English or a TOEIC, IELTS or TOEFL score, and families who want English or Chinese for children from preschool through high school at the same school. The mix of 1-on-1, small group and lecture formats lets learners balance cost and speaking time. The main caveat is that pricing comes as a personal quote within the published ranges, so a learner has to go through the introductory class and consultant step to see their actual plan.
