Membership.io is a membership platform for creators and coaches who sell access to a library of content alongside a community. Its homepage calls it "The dedicated membership platform that gives your content and community a forever home", and the product is built around Hubs: branded spaces where members find content, discussions, courses and live-session recordings in one place instead of moving between tools. The company says it is trusted by thousands of membership site owners and their teams, and its homepage names creators such as Amy Porterfield, Dan Martell, Bonnie Christine and Stu McLaren under the heading "Top memberships use Membership.io".

Hubs and the content library

The library is the core of the product. Creators can pull their audio, video and text files in from wherever they already sit on the web instead of uploading each one by hand, and every upload gets AI-generated headlines and summaries. The company's comparison post adds that a video upload automatically produces transcriptions, tags, chapters and summaries, and that auto transcription covers 40+ languages. Captions are generated too, which the homepage files under accessibility, and every piece of content is searchable by keyword for the creator and for members.

Hubs package that content for members. A creator can run separate Hubs for separate programs and brand each one differently; Carla Ward of Carla the ECE says the ability to personalize her hubs beyond a single color was the main reason she switched platforms. A no-code membership site builder and a template gallery of 100+ ready-made templates across niches help with the design. Pip Todman of Card Making Know How Academy says she launched a new foundation course in three hours by creating a Hub for it to run alongside her membership.

Search, AI chat and personalization

Search is the feature Membership.io leans on hardest. AI content search lets members type a question and get answers instantly, and the comparison post says results include exact timestamps, so a member lands on the moment in a video where a topic comes up. Mike Indovina of MasterYourMix describes it as being able to find "the exact moment I mention any keyword".

AI Chat gives each membership its own chatbot, trained on the creator's content, voice and style, to answer member questions and guide them to the right material, which the company pitches as a way to cut support workload. AI Copilot is a writing assistant for creating content for the library. The homepage also offers a builder in which you type what you want to sell and AI builds the membership site, course or digital product.

Personalized learning paths let a creator set a different route through the content for each member, based on their goals and progress, so a new member is not dropped into a large library without direction. The homepage presents this as the answer to members who feel overwhelmed and cancel.

Community and live sessions

The community side covers member profiles with customization options, public and private discussion spaces, a searchable member directory, direct messaging between members, and gamification with milestones, badges and custom rewards that also track member progress. The homepage stresses that no algorithm decides what members see, so posts do not get lost in a feed. Sharon Pope says the discussions page gives her members a place to connect "free from distractions that come with using traditional social media".

Live events run through Zoom rather than inside the platform, and the comparison post confirms there is no native live streaming. You go live on Zoom, and the recordings can be added automatically to the content library and the Hub, so group calls, workshops and Q&As become part of the archive.

Courses, coaching and payments

Courses are one of four use cases the site describes, alongside memberships, coaching and podcasts. A creator can sell a digital course, run a coaching program from a centralized coaching hub, and convert video content into a podcast format "in just a few clicks". Natalie Amgott, who runs an advanced French membership, says her students download video, audio and transcripts to review lessons on the go, and she mentions the generous storage.

Payments are built in. Membership.io payments handle one-time purchases and recurring subscriptions without connecting an external cart. The platform sends transactional emails, and for full email marketing and CRM the company recommends integrating a platform such as Kit. Analytics track content consumption, community engagement, member activity, searches and revenue in one place, and members can use a fully branded mobile app to take the membership and community with them.

Plans and pricing

Membership.io has three plans, listed in the company's own comparison post with pricing as of January 2026: Start at $49 a month, Grow at $119 a month and Scale at $219 a month. None charges a transaction fee, so the only cut of a sale beyond the plan price is the payment processor's; the post gives Stripe's fee as 2.9% + $0.30 per successful transaction for domestic cards. The post notes that the prices shown reflect annual billing discounts where applicable. A free trial is offered, and a free registration covers guidance on validating a membership idea before launch.

The partner program pays 30% of a referred customer's monthly subscription on select plans, which the menu sums up as "Make 30% every time they pay". For setup there is a Services offer for expert implementation support, a Help Center, and a community for creators; YvonJane van Leeuwen mentions tech calls every Monday. Questions go to help@membership.io, and the team describes itself as "membership owners who built what we wished existed".

What customers report

The homepage carries 14 testimonials. Kari Fulmek of Equine Connection says her team moved close to 100 courses and programs over from a previous platform, with a smooth setup and the whole training library transferred without major issues, and that members can now find what they are looking for. Tara Phillips of Autism Little Learners uses Membership.io for her membership, self-paced courses and a large annual online summit with over 50,000 registrants, and says it handles that scale. The homepage also states that Chalene and Brock Johnson cut churn by 50% after moving to Membership.io.

Who it suits

The comparison post names its intended users: coaches building training libraries, community-first creators who want discussions next to organized content, wellness and health creators, artists and creatives selling tutorial libraries, and creators who run live events on Zoom. It fits best where there is a lot of content to organize, because search, transcripts and learning paths do the most work in a large library, and creators who want to keep transaction fees off their sales get flat plan prices. The trade-offs are that live sessions happen on Zoom instead of natively and that email marketing needs a separate tool.
