Seneca
Tap a star to rate
Seneca is a free homework and revision platform for school students, built around the UK curriculum from primary school (KS2) through KS3, GCSE and A Level, with international qualifications alongside. Students revise through short interactive courses matched to their exam board, practice on exam questions marked instantly, and ask an AI tutor called Amelia when they get stuck. Teachers can set work through it, and the site has separate entry points for students, teachers, parents and schools. The home page opens with "Learn 2x faster for free" and invites visitors to "Join 15 million students on Seneca for fun, free, and effective revision."
What a student gets
A student signs up, picks a level and adds the subjects they study at school. The FAQ says Seneca's courses cover "95% of the exams taken in the UK, from Primary up to A Level," and that the content is condensed to "what you actually need to know for your exams." The level picker on the home page lists GCSE, A Level, KS3, iGCSE, International A Level, IB Diploma, BTEC, 11+ and Primary, and the subject picker runs from Biology, Business and Chemistry through Citizenship, Coding, Computer Science, Design Technology, Drama, English, Food Preparation & Nutrition, French, Geography, German, History, ICT, Maths, Media Studies, Music, Physical Education, Physics, Psychology and Religious Studies to Sociology and Spanish.
The course lists in the site's footer show the depth at each stage:
- A Level: Biology, Business, Chemistry, Physics, Economics, English Language, English Literature, Geography, History, Political Studies, Psychology, Sociology and Maths.
- GCSE: Biology, Business, Chemistry, Physics, Computer Science, Design Technology, English Language, English Literature, Food Preparation & Nutrition, French, Geography, German, History, Maths, Media Studies, Music, Physical Education, Religious Studies, Sociology and Spanish.
- KS3: English, French, Spanish, Geography, History, Maths and Science.
- KS2: Computing, English, French, Geography, History, Maths and Science.
- International: International A Level Biology, Chemistry and Physics; iGCSE Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Geography, English Language and Computer Science; and IB Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Business and Economics.
The courses themselves are designed to replace the revision guide. The home page promises "No more dull, doodled-on walls of text," and the FAQ says the team has hand-picked GIFs and memes "so revision makes you laugh instead of stressed." Students level up, earn rewards and compete with friends as they go. The home page describes the study mode as smart learning that adapts to how each student works, and the FAQ explains the method: "Our algorithms use insights from neuroscience to make you remember topics better," which is the basis for the claim that "Seneca is proven to make you learn 2x faster." The footer links to a page titled "Evidence Seneca works."
Exam practice and AI marking
The second half of the product is practice. Seneca says it holds over 8,000 exam questions, so students do not have to hunt for past papers, and that "Our AI marking will give you immediate feedback" on their answers. A Year 12 student quoted on the home page mentions that the platform covers "particular specifications (AQA, etc.)," along with interactive courses, exam questions and videos, which matters in the UK, where the same subject is examined differently by different boards.
Amelia, the AI tutor
Amelia is Seneca's AI tutor. The home page says students can "Explore topics, solve homework & much more," upload homework for guided support, and dive deeper into the topics they enjoy. A Year 10 student quoted next to it says: "She can easily answer my questions specifically, it's like talking to an actual person!"
For teachers, parents and schools
Seneca is used in classrooms as well as at home. The FAQ says that "if your teachers use Seneca they can set you homework & revision on any topic on the platform," and students have a "Join class" option to link to their teacher. The site has dedicated sections for teachers, parents and schools, and separate primary, secondary and international areas. Teacher material includes Teacher CPD, free CPD courses, certified teaching resources and a Resource Hub. Further free resources linked from the site include revision notes, maths games, definitions, vocabulary lists and material on mental health and wellbeing. The site also links to pages for finding a tutor and for becoming one.
Price and access
The FAQ is direct about money: "Seneca can be used for free an unlimited amount." It adds that "Free Seneca will always be better than any other learning system in the world," and that "There are some Premium packages you can upgrade to for extra features & exam support." The home page gives no premium prices. Seneca runs on the web and as a mobile app, and the home page pitches it for learning anywhere.
Beyond the UK site, the language menu offers versions for Brazil in Portuguese, Mexico in Spanish and Austria in German, and the footer links to a GDPR notice and to separate privacy notices for several countries. Contact runs through a help center with FAQs, an email address and social channels including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and X.
What students say
The home page shows two five-star rating counts, 2000+ ratings and 1500+ ratings, and a run of student comments. Nabil Miah writes, "I went from a 5-5 (combined science) in our March mocks to a 7-6 in my actual GCSEs. Seneca was the only revision tool I used and I only started using it mid-April." Oscar says he "went from 7s to 9s in my sciences using the website." Mollie Dyer credits it with "an 8 in history and a 7 in biology." Michelle writes that she had "failed maths exams and have never passed a single one" before using Seneca for a few months and passing her GCSE. Daud, in Year 11, calls it the "Best website I've ever used with simplified notes that are easy to understand." Hannah Cable liked that "It gave me a way to revise easily without having to stare at a book."
Who it suits
Seneca suits UK students from KS2 to A Level who want a free, structured way to revise each subject against their own exam board, with instant feedback on practice questions and an AI tutor for homework questions. It is just as useful for students taking iGCSE, International A Level or the IB in the sciences and a few other subjects, and for teachers who want to set revision homework on any topic without building it themselves. The free version is the product, not a trial, so a family can use it fully before deciding whether Premium's extra exam support is worth paying for. Students following a curriculum outside the levels above will find little mapped to their syllabus, and the international courses are a narrower set than the GCSE and A Level range.
