What Playgarden Online Is

Playgarden Online is the online preschool of Playgarden Prep, a private preschool with in-person locations in New York City. It puts the same curriculum and, the site says, the same teachers online, so that parents can run preschool or pre-K at home. The reader here is a parent: a homeschooling family, a working parent who wants structure for a three-year-old, or a family that travels. The homeschool page lists work-from-home parents, large families, dual-language households, learning pods, faith-based homes, traveling families and children with special needs among the families it was built for.

Ages vary by page. The homepage FAQ calls it a program for children 2 to 4 years old and says it is ideal from age two, while the homeschool FAQ says it is best suited to ages 3 to 5 and can serve as homeschool pre-K because the curriculum is "a bit more advanced than your typical nursery school". The homeschool page says Playgarden has helped hundreds of families learn at home since 2020.

Daily Lessons and Curriculum

The core of the program is a set of pre-recorded Daily Lessons with matching worksheets and activities. The FAQ says there are 27 weeks of Daily Lessons and recommends repeating some weeks, which stretches the program over a full 9-month school year, and that subscribers get up to 1.5 hours of educational content a day, 5 days a week. Lessons can be started at any time of year and paced to the child.

The curriculum follows the alphabet, one letter per week. The sample Letter A week on the homeschool page shows how a day is built: Miss Beth introduces the week's vocabulary, a writing lesson covers upper and lowercase A, Coach Jake leads a movement session, a puppet show and a storytime round it off, and later days bring an abacus counting lesson, a nutrition lesson with Chef Danielle (guacamole and apple chips), alliteration, the seven continents, a science lesson on absorption and Spanish vocabulary. The daily songs include a Hello Song in English and Spanish.

Subjects on the site are Language and Literacy, Early Math, Science and Sensory, Geography and Social Studies, Music, Movement and Creative Arts Expression, with Nutrition and theater arts woven in. Each subject page breaks the area into skills, for example phonological awareness, alphabet knowledge and early writing for literacy, or number concepts, patterns, geometry and measurement for math. The FAQ says the materials follow the Montessori curriculum, adapted for an online setting, and the homeschool page names Montessori, play-based, Reggio Emilia, High Scope, Waldorf and cognitive-based approaches among those its teachers use.

The homeschool page counts over 135 days of curriculum, over 1,000 lesson videos and 200+ hours of video content, plus hundreds of DIY projects, printable worksheets made by teachers and workbooks delivered to the home. The homepage adds an activities library "of over 1,200 activities" where children can save favorites, a music library of "hundreds of custom early learning songs", and a Kids Corner of short, silly videos and songs that children can browse on their own. Cognitive worksheets have children practice tracing, counting, sorting and matching. Hands-on learning comes through workbooks, projects, DIY materials, sensory table ideas and Learning Kits sent to the home.

Live Zoom Classes and Playdates

Live classes are the social side of the program and are included without a cap. The FAQ says Playgarden runs "two to five 30-minute live classes each day, Monday to Friday, 50 weeks of the year", and children can join as many as they like. Classes are held at varying times of day to suit different time zones, and they are meant to supplement the Daily Lessons rather than be attended in full. The homeschool page lists live classes in Art, Karate, Songwriting, Cooking, Movement, Story Sharing, Guitar Songs, Music, Storytime, Hip-Hop, Playdates and Worksheet Review; the homepage also mentions Dance and a Spelling Bee.

There is no size limit on regular classes, and the FAQ says new sections open when one gets too popular. Playdates and worksheet reviews are capped at 10 children, and Playdates need a reservation. Playdates are moderated by teachers to encourage socializing through play. Live classes are joined through the platform, which requires Zoom, and parents can put classes on a calendar with email reminders.

Teachers, Feedback and Certificates

According to the site, the online teachers are the same teachers who work in the New York City locations, and children meet them both in the lesson videos and in live classes. Miss Beth, the Education Director and Head of Schools, holds a master's degree in early childhood education. Parents on the Online Preschool plan get feedback from teachers based on worksheet uploads and live class participation, and each day there is a teacher-led worksheet review video, plus a weekly worksheet review class on Zoom.

Progress is tracked on the platform through automated progress reports and individualized student portfolios, and children earn patches as they work. The FAQ says the workbooks hand out Diplomas for every letter learned and every month completed, and that Playgarden gives a Certificate for finishing the whole school year, based on the worksheets and progress reports in the child's Student Cubby. These are the program's own certificates of completion. The homepage also claims a "100% success rate", saying graduates "are guaranteed to meet or surpass their Kindergarten Readiness Standards".

A separate Social and Emotional section sends parents weekly suggestions on nutrition, focused play, quality time, physical activity, sensory play, emotion regulation and reading. The homepage says the program supports children with autism as well as advanced learners, with an emphasis on literacy and phonetics.

Access, Plans and Pricing

The program runs on desktops, tablets and smartphones, and the FAQ says it can be used anywhere in the world. An adult is advised to supervise, though the platform is built so a child can watch alone for a short break. One membership covers the household: the homepage says you can add multiple children and caregivers for free. Parents also join an online parent community that the homeschool page describes as hundreds of families with preschoolers.

The site says all plans come with monthly or annual subscription options. Its homeschool page puts the price at "under $100 per month" for unlimited live Zoom classes plus thousands of lessons and activities, and states that families "can take up to 19 Zoom classes each week, for only $25 per week", which it works out at $1.32 per class. Beyond family plans, the homepage links to plans for libraries, hospitals and schools and lets families sign in with a library card number.

New families start with a trial. The homeschool page says "The first 15 days are free", and the homepage says no credit card is required. The company also offers what it calls an "iron-clad 100% money-back guarantee": if you are not impressed, you can write after the trial ends and it will "refund every penny". On privacy, the homepage states that Playgarden complies with FERPA and COPPA, keeps advertising off its site and does not sell or rent student data. Support runs by email, phone or a scheduled call.

Who It Suits

Playgarden Online fits parents of two- to five-year-olds who want a ready-made preschool day at home with real teachers rather than an app of games. A homeschooling family gets a sequenced year of letter-by-letter lessons, worksheets and feedback; a busy parent can lean on the pre-recorded lessons and drop into live classes when the schedule allows; and siblings can share one membership. Libraries and other organizations have their own plans.

It is built for the preschool years only, so families need another program once their child reaches kindergarten. The live classes depend on Zoom and on a parent nearby to get a small child connected.
