Matrix Education is a tutoring company for school students that teaches structured courses on campus and online, from Year 3 to Year 12. Its help center sets out the offer in three strands: term courses that run alongside the school year, holiday courses in the school breaks, and preparation courses for the OC test, selective school entry, the HSC and the UCAT. The NSW program covers every year from Year 3 to Year 12, and a Melbourne program covers Year 7 to Year 12 for students sitting the VCE. Online courses run under the name Matrix+, and families manage enrollments, absences and payments through a portal called MyMatrix, while the teaching material lives in the Matrix LMS. It is a learner product: parents enroll a child in a course taught by Matrix teachers, rather than a platform for other tutors.

Courses by year group

Term courses are organized by year group. On the NSW side there is a course page for each of Years 3 to 12; in Melbourne, for each of Years 7 to 12. The help center describes this section as "Our courses, topics and structure at Matrix Education for each year group," so a family picks the year and then the subjects offered within it. Students who carry on from one term to the next are re-enrolled automatically, and a separate policy explains what happens to a Matrix enrollment when a student drops the subject at school. There are also written policies on enrollment, class changes, waitlists, homework and resources.

Holiday courses are the intensive option. In NSW they are grouped for Years 3 to 4, Years 5 to 6 and Years 7 to 10, with "Holiday Accelerated Courses" for Years 11 to 12. Melbourne has holiday courses for Years 7 to 10 and accelerated courses for Years 11 to 12. Short holiday courses carry their own terms and conditions.

Exam preparation is the third strand, collected under "OC, Selective School, HSC & UCAT Preparation." It includes OC test preparation courses for younger students and HSC prep for Year 12, so the same company can follow a child from the primary school entry tests through to the final school exams.

Year 12 exam prep in detail

The most fully described product is the Year 12 Exam Prep Course. The help center calls these "short, targeted holiday programs that help Year 12 students master exam techniques and boost confidence before their major exams." Each is an intensive 6-day program of 3 hours a day, focused on exam skills for a single Year 12 subject and "taught by experienced Matrix teachers using a structured curriculum." The courses run in the July and September school holidays, ahead of the Trial exams, which the page says typically fall in July or August, and the HSC or VCE exams in October or November. They are also available online.

Students receive detailed summary notes of key concepts, step-by-step guidance on how to answer exam-style questions, and model responses with expert marking feedback. They also get "A printed book with theory summary notes, questions, solutions, and sample responses, as well as additional practice questions," which gives a student something to keep working from after the 6 days end.

For the HSC, the subjects are English Advanced, English Standard, Mathematics Standard, Mathematics Advanced, Mathematics Extension 1, Mathematics Extension 2, Biology, Chemistry and Physics. For the VCE they are English, Maths Methods, Specialist Maths, Biology, Chemistry and Physics. The page adds that courses may vary by campus and year.

The help center pitches these at Year 12 students who want to consolidate key topics before exams, need help applying knowledge to exam-style questions, want exam-style practice and stronger exam skills, or want to reduce exam anxiety. Importantly for families who use another tutor, "The Exam Prep Courses are open to all students, regardless of whether they attend other classes at Matrix." Enrollment is through the Matrix website or an enrollment form, it usually opens in late May or early June, and "Early booking is recommended as places are limited."

Learning online with Matrix+

Matrix+ is the online version of the courses. Students watch online theory lesson videos, post questions to a Q&A discussion board, and complete diagnostic reviews, quizzes and topic tests online, then view the worked solutions to their diagnostic reviews, homework, quizzes and topic tests afterwards. English homework is submitted through the platform, and students see their marks and feedback there. Students can also send feedback on a Matrix+ course, and parents have their own way into the courses to follow along.

On-campus students use the same Matrix LMS. Students and parents log in separately, guardians can check marks, and the theory lesson videos sit on the LMS for revision. Diagnostic review solutions are available for Years 3 to 6, and there is an iPad app for the LMS. A separate "Matrix On Campus" section gathers what a campus student needs to know, alongside campus information, trading hours and course dates.

MyMatrix for parents

The MyMatrix portal is where the administration happens. Parents update their details and credit card, enroll a child in a new course, view the child's current enrollments and mark an absence, and students can view their own enrollments. Matrix also runs workshops, which are booked through MyMatrix, attended online where they are offered that way, and canceled by either the student or the parent. Families who want to spread the cost can request a payment schedule or an invoice, and an Accounts & Payments section covers the payment options.

Guarantees, scholarships and extras

New families are offered a First Lesson Money-Back Guarantee (FLMBG), presented under the line "Experience Matrix With Confidence," and a separate help article compares the FLMBG with a free trial. Matrix also lists scholarships, a Refer a Friend promotion (with a Victoria 2026 edition), and a section for scholarships, events and seminars. A Student Hub offers "Study guides, past papers and hacks to acing your tests." The help center itself sends families to the main website to "Check the website for course details and pricing," so fees are not part of these pages.

Who it suits

Matrix suits NSW families who want structured, year-by-year tutoring from Year 3 all the way to the HSC, with the choice of a campus or online classes, and Melbourne families with children in Years 7 to 12 heading for the VCE. Its Year 12 exam prep courses suit a student who wants one focused week on a single subject before the Trials or the final exams, including students who have never taken a Matrix class. Younger students preparing for the OC test or selective school entry have their own track. Parents who like to see marks, absences, enrollments and payments in one place will find that MyMatrix covers all four.

It suits less well a family outside NSW and Melbourne that wants face-to-face teaching. In Melbourne the listed programs start at Year 7, so primary-age children there have no term course on these pages. The Year 12 exam prep subject list is limited to English, mathematics and three sciences, so a student who wants a humanities or language intensive will not find one in that program.
