What Edkasa is

Edkasa is a Pakistani exam preparation app for secondary school students sitting their BISE board exams in Matric (classes 9 and 10) and Intermediate (classes 11 and 12). Its home page states the mission plainly: "to help students of Matric and FSc get top marks in their board exams." The company also runs a second product, Connected Classrooms, which brings live online lessons into schools. Its office is in Gulberg II, Lahore, and its site calls it "Pakistan's fastest-growing ed-tech platform."

The About page tells the founding story in broad strokes: "two curious Pakistanis" set out to tackle what the company calls "arguably Pakistan's biggest problem," which it names as access to quality education. It frames the need in numbers of its own: "More than 23 million secondary education-aged students in Pakistan are out of school," and "Nearly half of those who do attend fail their exams." The company adds that past and guess papers "exist, but are not substitutes," and that teachers are "overworked, underpaid, and overwhelmed." Edkasa's stated answer is to make learning more accessible "without burdening the teachers."

The Edkasa app for students

The app is built around three things, each with a headline figure on the home page.

Video lectures. The app holds 4,500+ video lectures in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Math and English, meant "to clear concepts, learn tips and tricks, and be ready for your BISE exams." The FAQ describes them as "topic wise, concept clearing video lectures."

Teachers. The home page calls them "RockStar Teachers," described as "Highly qualified and experienced professionals with BISE exam prep experience." The About page names the teaching team with their subjects: Mudassir Ejaz (F.Sc. Maths), Sana Munir (F.Sc. Biology), Chand Arslan (Matric Maths), Shrish Gul (F.Sc. English), Nooria Abbas (Matric Physics), Hammad Zafar (F.Sc. Physics), Sehrish Robin (F.Sc. Chemistry) and Syeda Shahnaz (Matric Biology).

Practice questions. There are 15,000+ test questions, "quizzes and MCQs based on past papers." The home page adds a "Score and rank" feature "to see where you stand before your board exam," so a student sees both their result and how it compares.

The course list covers every main Intermediate stream as well as Matric. Matric has Class 9th and Class 10th in both Science and Computer Science. F.Sc. has Class 11 and Class 12 in Pre-Engineering and Pre-Medical. F.A, I.C.S and I.Com each have Part I and Part II. The FAQ lists the classes as BISE Class 9 and 10 (matric) and BISE Class 11 and 12 (FSc pre medical, FSc pre engineering, ICS and Icom), and the home page says the content covers "All Boards across Pakistan."

Joining is quick. The FAQ says to download the app from the Google Play Store, sign up by selecting your class and start studying. Videos are streamed: "No, you cannot download videos from the app," the FAQ says, but students can bookmark specific videos to watch later. The app does not run live classes; the FAQ answers that question with a plain no and points to the recorded lectures and past-paper questions instead.

Prices and what they include

Edkasa publishes its prices. The home page offers two plans under the heading "We offer flexible pricing":

  • Single Subject, Rs. 899/m. One selected subject, all videos for that subject, all MCQs for that subject, monthly payment.
  • Exam Package, Rs. 3,599/m. Four selected subjects, all videos and all MCQs for those subjects, monthly payment.

The FAQ gives the same prices as PKR 899 and PKR 3,599 for one month, though it describes the Exam Pack as covering "all subject" where the home page card says 4 selected subjects. Some content is free. The FAQ says "you will get some of the content in the app for free," but full exam preparation needs a package. A subscription lasts one month and then stops: "Once the (1 month) duration of a specific pack ends, the package is automatically unsubscribed. you will have to buy the pack again." That means no surprise renewal, and also that a student studying through the year renews by hand every month.

The home page also links to a Scholarship Program.

Connected Classrooms for schools

Connected Classrooms is Edkasa's offer to schools "operating in socio-economically challenged areas." The company runs "live online classes taught by experienced and trained teachers for Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Math, aimed at preparing students for their Board Examinations." For "a minimal monthly subscription fee," a school gets the live lectures and the equipment to join them: "smart projectors, tripods, speakers, and 4g hotspots." Classes "are taught on a regular schedule with real-time student engagement followed by assessments to track progress."

The page lists four features: complete syllabus coverage, regular testing, standardized school reports and live question and answer sessions. Inside the classroom, "Students get to take live online lectures with visual presentation and get to clear doubts in real time!"

Setup takes three steps, according to the page. Team Edkasa visits to onboard the school, equipment and training are provided, and students start taking the live classes. Schools can register for a free trial through a form on the site. The page states three headline benefits, "Decrease your cost by 80%," "Improve student's marks" and "Up to 400% increase in number of students," and reports its reach so far as 40+ classrooms, 700+ students, 227k+ questions and answers and 165k+ minutes of teaching. The site does not print the school subscription fee.

Track record and team

The About page says Edkasa's online classes "reach thousands of students, and have recorded 1.3 million hours of viewing time." The leadership named on that page includes Fahad Tanveer as Chief Executive Officer, Annum Sadiq as Chief Education Officer and Muneeb Ali as Chief Technical Officer, alongside engineers, designers, program leads and a senior video editor.

The student testimonials are short and specific. Fareeha Jamal, Class 10th, writes: "I was confused about accuracy and precision and I was just looking for that topic in Urdu and finally I found you." Nabeel Khan, Class 12th, says: "Loved Mam Vaneeza's physics lectures! her style of teaching really helps clear all my concepts."

Who it suits and who it does not

Edkasa suits a Pakistani student in classes 9 to 12 who wants recorded lessons and past-paper practice aimed squarely at the BISE board exam. The Single Subject plan at Rs. 899 a month is a low-cost way to shore up one weak subject in the months before the exam, and the Exam Package covers a full set. The score-and-rank feature gives a student a sense of where they stand, and the teacher list makes it easy to see who will be teaching each subject.

Schools in underserved areas are the audience for Connected Classrooms: a school short of specialist science and math teachers gets live lessons plus the projector, speakers and hotspot to run them, with a free trial to start.

The limits are practical. The app streams rather than downloads, so a student needs a data connection for every lesson. The app has no live classes, so a student with a question has the recorded explanation rather than a teacher to ask. And because subscriptions end after a month, families need to remember to renew.
