The Fitness Group

Tap a star to rate

The Fitness Group is a training provider for people who want to qualify as gym instructors, personal trainers, Pilates teachers, nutrition coaches or sports massage therapists. It sells regulated qualifications that a learner can study online from home, at workshop days in its venues, or on full-time in-person courses. The homepage says the company operates "across the United Kingdom, Europe, the United Arab Emirates, and Asia," and that it offers full-time, part-time and supported online study at locations in the UK and the UAE. The footer names The Fitness Group Education Ltd as the company, with TFG Sports Services Ltd as its registered company in the UAE.

The qualification catalog

The site describes a full pathway from entry level upward. The main personal training route starts with the Level 2 Gym Instructor course and continues to the Level 3 Personal Training courses, Level 4 Personal Training courses and combined Level 3 and Level 4 packages named Master Personal Trainer and Platinum Personal Trainer. There is also a Level 4 Strength & Conditioning PT Bundle and a Women's Health Personal Training Course.

Beyond personal training, the menus list:

  • Pilates: a Level 3 Diploma in Mat Pilates, Level 3 Reformer Pilates, a Level 3 Mat & Reformer Pilates Bundle, a Level 3 Specialist Pilates Bundle, a Level 4 Master Pilates Bundle and Level 4 Advanced Mat Pilates
  • Nutrition: Level 4 RSPH Nutrition, Level 4 RSPH Nutrition for Sport, a Level 3 Nutrition course and a course on eating disorders and body image
  • Sports massage: Level 3 and Level 4 qualifications
  • Specialist courses: Level 3 Pre & Post Natal, Level 3 Exercise Referral, lower back pain, obesity and diabetes, menopause, the menstrual cycle and exercise, gut microbiome, the science of recovery, Level 2 Mental Health Awareness, Emergency First Aid at Work, leading physical activity for adolescents, and cultural and ethnic diversity in sport
  • Instructor add-ons: Level 2 Indoor Cycling, Level 2 Instructing Kettlebells, Level 2 Certificate in Group Training, Level 3 Outdoor Fitness, Boxercise Instructor, TRX qualifications and Hyperice courses
  • Level 3 Fitness Education & Training

For a learner this breadth matters. Someone can start with the gym instructor certificate, move to personal training, then add a specialism such as pre and post natal clients or Pilates without changing provider.

Who awards the qualifications

The company is specific about this. According to the homepage, all Level 2 and Level 3 qualifications are certified by Active IQ, and its Level 4 qualifications are "accredited and awarded by respected organisations including Active IQ, S&C Education, and the Royal Society for Public Health." The site says its courses are endorsed by CIMSPA and UAE REPs, that it is a CIMSPA Enhancing Educational Partner, a recognized REPs UAE partner and an accredited EuropeActive Training Provider.

The online courses page gives the detail for each core course. The Level 2 Gym Instructor Certificate is the Active IQ Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Coaching, which the page calls "fully recognised by CIMSPA, REPS & UK Active," with Ofqual accreditation number 610/5181/0. The Level 3 Personal Training course is the Active IQ Level 3 Diploma in Personal Training (610/5189/5) and includes both the Level 2 and Level 3 PT courses. The Level 3 Sports Massage Diploma carries number 601/4390/9, and the page adds that it is recognized by the Sports Massage Association and the General Council for Massage Therapies. The site also states that studying online rather than in person does not change the qualification you graduate with.

Prices and finance

Prices are shown as monthly finance figures, each with a stated saving. The online courses page lists:

  • Level 2 Gym Instructor Certificate from £13.51 a month (save £200)
  • Level 3 Personal Training courses from £27.13 a month (save £500)
  • Level 3 Sports Massage Diploma from £26.15 a month (save £250)
  • Level 2 Mental Health Awareness from £4.50 a month (save £87), with no entry requirements
  • Level 3 Award in Supporting Pre and Post Natal from £8.94 a month (save £173), described as "Usually £495, Now £321.75!"
  • Level 3 Nutrition for Sport & Exercise from £4.97 a month (save £96), with a Level 2 qualification required

The site advertises savings of up to 35% and says 0% finance plans are available "from as little as £8 per month," over 6, 12, 24 or 36 months. It states that paying in full or spreading the cost "will not affect the price you pay for qualification," that there are no hidden fees, and that there is no charge for resits. The footer explains that the company is authorized and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority as a credit broker, offering finance from a panel of lenders subject to status and affordability checks. A downloadable price guide and prospectus are offered for the full figures.

How online study works

Booking is done online: you pick today's date in the basket and start at once. After enrollment you receive welcome emails with Getting Started Guides and welcome videos, and you are given an assigned Learner Support Coach and an assigned tutor. The online learning platform works on any device, with all coursework online and e-learning available at any time of day.

The company says it runs "more online webinars and study support lectures than any other provider in the UK," and that the live lectures are recorded. The homepage also lists daily online live lectures, tutor-led workshops and tutor support by phone, email or face-to-face appointment.

Assessment depends on the course. For the Level 2 Gym Instructor and Level 3 Personal Training courses, theory assessments are taken online from home, with mock exams to practice first, and the practical can be filmed at your local gym and submitted as video. Your tutor checks you are ready before you do it. The Level 3 Sports Massage course is studied online but assessed in person for the practical. The Pre and Post Natal award lists 45 guided learning hours and 70 hours of total qualification time, assessed by a knowledge assessment and an applied case study. The homepage adds that online study "can be completed from any location across the world."

In-person courses and venues

For face-to-face study, the site lists UK venues including London, Glasgow, Derby, Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool and Newcastle, plus a Dubai Personal Trainer Course in the UAE. In the UK, practical assessment can be done at a tutor workshop date or by video; for PT courses in the UAE, learners attend workshop dates. Students in the UAE can choose blended learning or a 5-week Dubai Personal Trainer Course. The menus also list Romania Personal Trainer Courses. The company describes its workshops as practical activity every day, led by tutors from a range of specialist backgrounds, and puts weight on a "strong, fun and inclusive community" among students.

Career support

Career help is part of each core course. The Level 2 and Level 3 courses include a free Business Skills course, free careers day support, a guaranteed job interview, 20+ accredited CPD courses and a free graduate start-up kit. The homepage describes CV support, interviews arranged through its gym recruitment network, mentoring from TFG Education Mentors (experienced personal trainers who have completed its tutoring and business skills training), and free access to the Skills Hub platform for CPD courses and a Graduate Toolkit. A personal trainer insurance partnership is offered as one of the discounted memberships for graduates.

The company says it has graduates working in UK gyms such as Nuffield Health, Pure Gym, David Lloyd and JD Gyms, and that it supports recruitment for chains including Virgin Active. It also names the Ministry of Defence Police UK, The PFA and ELCAS among the organizations that trust it to train their teams.

Reputation

The homepage cites a 4.9/5 Trustpilot rating from over 5000 reviews and a "Winner Best Education Provider 2025" badge, and says its courses produce "thousands of talented health and fitness professionals each year, across the world." One review it quotes, from a Glasgow personal training student named Emma, reads: "Great experience! Alasdair was brilliant made me feel so comfortable and at ease."

Who it suits

The Fitness Group suits career changers who want a recognized entry route into gym work or personal training, and working trainers adding a specialism. The site's own example is Amy, who studied around her job in her spare time, changed career and now owns her own personal training studio. The finance plans and video assessment make it practical to train without leaving work.

The caveat is pricing. Most courses are advertised as a monthly figure and a saving, so a reader comparing total costs will need the price guide. The pages show no full upfront price for the core gym and PT courses.
