Institute for Integrative Nutrition
Tap a star to rate
The Institute for Integrative Nutrition (IIN) is an online school that trains health coaches. Its flagship is the Health Coach Training Program, a cohort-based course taught in English or Spanish that covers nutrition, behavior change, holistic wellness and business skills, and leads to the title of Integrative Nutrition Health Coach. The school says it was founded in 1992 as a small macrobiotic cooking class in New York City, and it now counts 210,000+ students and graduates in 180+ countries. Its site lists an address in Newark, Ohio, and the reader it serves is someone who wants to coach clients on health and lifestyle, improve their own health, or add coaching to an existing career.
The Health Coach Training Program
The program is 100% online and offered on 6-month and 12-month tracks; one banner on the home page also advertises a 3-month Summer Intensive. Students learn from 95+ visiting faculty, which the certificate page describes as experts in integrative health, public health, nutrition, functional medicine, spirituality, alternative healing modalities, business, marketing and coaching, and the curriculum spans 80+ topics. Alongside the lectures, students learn IIN's signature IINtegrative Coaching Method and practice in virtual Coaching Circle sessions with professional Integrative Nutrition Health Coaches. Coursework runs on IIN's online Learning Center, which is also available through the IIN mobile app. The home page promises lifetime support, so graduates can keep learning and connecting after they finish.
On completion, graduates receive a paper certificate and a digital badge. IIN is explicit about what that is: "We offer a certificate of completion, not a certification." The FAQ adds that no governmental agency currently requires any health coach certification, and points graduates to two routes for further credentials.
Paths to certification
The first route is the Coaching Intensive Practicum, which the site says is approved by the National Board for Health and Wellness Coaching (NBHWC). It combines live coaching practice, expert feedback and focused skill-building, and completes the education requirements to sit the NBHWC board-certifying exam and become a National Board-Certified Health and Wellness Coach (NBC-HWC). It runs 3 months or 12 weeks, online and cohort-based, in English, and is open to people who did not take the Health Coach Training Program as well as graduates. The home page says the November 9 class is the final start of 2026.
The second route is the International Association for Health Coaches (IAHC) exam. All Health Coach Training Program graduates are eligible to take it with no further coursework. It tests knowledge of a health coach's scope of practice and ethical responsibilities, and those who pass earn the title Certified International Health Coach.
Prices and bundles
IIN publishes tuition, with sale prices shown against regular prices and a note that tuition increases on October 1:
- The Health Coach Training Program is listed at $3,795 against $5,995, a saving of $2,200, on 6 or 12 month tracks in English or Spanish. The page notes that enrollment is extended and students can still join the September cohort.
- Health Coach Board Certification Training combines the program with the Coaching Intensive Practicum for $4,990 against $7,990, a saving of $3,000, and comes with the IIN Business Accelerator Program free.
- Hormone Health Coaching Pathway combines the program with the Hormone Health Course for $4,340 against $6,990, a saving of $2,650.
- Coaching Intensive Practicum on its own is $1,395 against $1,995, advertised as a 30% saving with a free Board Exam Success Kit valued at $500.
The home page also rotates seasonal offers, such as 40% off enrollment or the Hormone Health Course included free with a cohort. For paying, IIN offers flexible payment plans, eligible HSA and FSA options, and Affirm financing, and an Admissions Advisor gives a free 1:1 consultation to pick a plan. Gift cards are sold too.
Licensing and recognition
The FAQ says IIN is licensed by the Ohio State Board of Career Colleges and Schools, and the certificate page describes it as dual-licensed by the New York State Education Department and that Ohio board, with periodic review of the curriculum. On accreditation, the FAQ says independent third-party organizations have granted program approvals, naming the NBHWC, the International Coaching Federation (ICF), the Health Coach Alliance and Health Coaches Australia and New Zealand Association (HCANZA). It adds that its offerings have college credit recognition in the United States and Level 4 approval in the United Kingdom, and that graduates can earn continuing education units through partner organizations or pursue a higher education degree.
IIN also says it has staff in Washington, D.C. advocating for the health coach profession, and points to the American Medical Association's approval of health coaching CPT codes, which it says paves the way for health coaching services to eventually be covered by insurance.
What graduates do
According to the site, graduates create part-time and full-time health coaching businesses, write books and lead programs. The certificate page lists settings such as one-on-one and group coaching, work alongside healthcare professionals in doctor's offices, and roles in gyms, spas and food, beauty and supplement companies, plus remote work through wellness apps and insurers offering virtual coaching. The alumni section features recent graduates from the classes of 2023 and 2024, and free virtual events let prospective students hear from graduates, such as a private chef and an author, some of them presented in English and Spanish.
IIN also runs IINsiders, a free affiliate program that pays 15% on enrollments a member refers and gives them a discount code to share, which the site frames as a way to offset tuition or new business costs.
Support
Admissions Health Coaches answer questions in English or Spanish by phone, WhatsApp, email or a scheduled call, Monday to Friday from 7am to 12am and Saturday and Sunday from 9am to 5:30pm Eastern time. Current students have a separate Student & Alumni Support channel.
Who it suits
IIN suits someone drawn to a holistic, whole-person approach to health who wants a structured program with a cohort, live coaching practice and a large alumni community, and it suits Spanish speakers as well as English speakers. A nurse, trainer or other wellness professional can add coaching skills, and someone planning a coaching business gets business training and, in the board certification bundle, an accelerator program. For a learner aiming at NBHWC board certification, the practicum route is laid out clearly. The caveats are that the base program is a certificate of completion rather than a certification, so a board credential needs the practicum and an exam on top, and that the cohort format means starting on set class dates rather than any day.
