Pilatesology
Tap a star to rate
Pilatesology is a subscription streaming service for classical Pilates. Its home page calls it "Unlimited Online Classical Pilates" and "The World's Most Trusted Source for Classical Pilates", and the business behind it is Pilatesology, Inc. It serves two kinds of learner. The first is the practitioner who wants guided mat and Reformer workouts at home. The second is the Pilates teacher who wants workshops, exercise references and continuing education. One subscription covers both. The pitch to practitioners is about results over time: the home page promises classical Pilates "led by expert teachers for longevity, energy, and confidence", under the line "True to the Source Pilates. Expertly Taught."
The workout library
The core of the product is the video library: the home page promises "Unlimited access to over 2,900 videos" and over 2,900 workouts on demand. Mat classes need no equipment and can be done anywhere, and Reformer classes and programs are taught by what the site calls world-class instructors. The home page says that whether you are brand new or a seasoned practitioner, you can find classes at your level.
The site organizes the library in several ways. Workouts can be browsed as all workouts, mat workouts or Reformer workouts, and there is a dedicated section for osteoporosis with no-flexion classes. A Body Focus & Injuries section points students to classes for particular needs, and the home page names classes for back pain, abs and seniors. Playlists group classes together as well. For people who want structure rather than single classes, guided programs, for mat and for Reformer, lead a student through a sequence designed, in the site's words, "to help you stay consistent", and a My Workout Plan feature sits alongside them.
Beginners have their own entry point under "New to Pilates? Start Here": beginner mat programs, a beginner Reformer program, a Reformer springs guide and a section of Pilates questions and troubleshooting.
Learning the method
Beyond workouts, Pilatesology is a reference for understanding the exercises. An Exercise Encyclopedia, exercise lists and sequences, and quick tips and tutorials cover individual movements, and the home page offers free printable Pilates exercise lists. A Learn section covers anatomy, focus areas and injuries, and teaching beginners and seniors. Workshops and case studies go deeper into specific topics and client situations, and the home page says classes, workshops and tutorials can all be downloaded.
Equipment help is part of the same library: a Reformer Springs Guide, a Wunda Chair Springs Guide and an equipment maintenance section. For students who train on apparatus at home, that is practical support alongside the classes.
Who teaches
The emphasis is on lineage. Under the heading "Learn from Pilates Legends", the home page says students learn "From teachers who studied directly with Joseph Pilates to current leading voices", experts it describes as preserving and shaping the method today. A Meet Our Teachers link leads to the instructor pages, and the site also has an Ambassadors page.
Tools for Pilates teachers
For instructors, the home page promises "expert-led workshops, exercise lists and tutorials, case studies and continuing education created for Pilates teachers." The teacher resources menu gathers a page for getting CECs, Classical Training Programs and a Worldwide Teacher Directory, and the footer adds live sessions and events. The page does not name an accrediting body or credit values for the CECs.
The testimonials show how teachers use it. Brooke C. says, "I've gotten a lot more confident in my cueing and classes." Robert T. describes using it to "do workouts, plan sessions, freshen up on apparatus, get ideas for client issues, and learn, learn, learn!!!" Nan-Young K. values being able to learn the skills of experienced teachers while living far from friends and colleagues.
Apps, devices and languages
Pilatesology works on any device. There are apps on the App Store and Google Play, classes can be downloaded for offline workouts when there is no WiFi, and the site supports watching on a TV through Apple TV, Roku, Chromecast and AirPlay. The home page advertises "Pilates in over 18 languages", and the site itself can be switched between 18 languages, including English, Hebrew, Traditional and Simplified Chinese, Thai, Turkish, Greek, Russian, Vietnamese, Dutch, Japanese, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Korean, Polish and Portuguese.
Price and trial
Pricing is simple and printed on the home page. Membership costs $22 a month, or $194 a year, which the site labels a 25% saving. The first 14 days are free: "No charge until your 14-day trial ends, then billed monthly." Pilatesology says it sends a reminder 3 days before the trial ends, and promises "No contract, no cancellation fees, no commitment."
The shop sells gift certificates and group subscriptions, has a Pilatesology Store, and links to Gratz equipment. A Giving Back page describes the ways the company supports its community, and support runs through a Support & FAQs section.
What members say
The testimonials on the home page come from both sides of the audience. Estelle C., a busy mother, says "The Reformer programs keep me coming back every day!" Elizabeth A. credits it with helping her weight loss and getting her moving again. Peter S. writes that at 84, after a hospital visit left him in pain and unable to walk, he began a daily routine with Pilatesology's resources. Everlea B. says that seeing teachers who look like her helps her feel she is not alone in what she does. Daina H. goes furthest, writing that Pilates "has changed the direction of my life" and leaves her feeling confident, optimistic, strong and fit.
Who it suits
Pilatesology suits a home practitioner who wants a large classical Pilates library for the price of a monthly subscription, especially one who likes following a structured program and wants specific help with back pain, osteoporosis-safe training or classes for seniors. Owners of a Reformer or Wunda Chair get both workouts and equipment guides. Teachers get a reference library, workshops and case studies, a directory listing and CEC resources in the same membership.
The format is video, so students rely on their own body awareness to correct their form, and anyone who needs a formal teaching certification should look at the Classical Training Programs page for its details. The 14-day trial with a reminder before billing makes it easy to test before paying.
