Body Maestro
Tap a star to rate
Body Maestro is an Australian instructor training company that certifies fitness professionals to teach Pilates and Barre. Its courses are created and delivered by founder Renee Scott and sold under two brands: Barre Attack, which the site describes as a fusion of ballet, Pilates and functional fitness, and Balance 8 Pilates, which applies Pilates repertoire and principles in practical ways. The reader here is someone who wants to become a certified instructor, or a working instructor adding a new class format. Most of the training runs as self-paced online courses with video, manuals and quizzes, though the site says the foundations courses are also available in person, and its FAQ mentions Face to Face and Zoom Live courses alongside the online ones.
The founder and the method
Scott's background is the core of the offer. The about page traces her career from the Royal Academy of Dance to a scholarship at the Hamburg Ballet School, where she completed a Diploma of Dance while performing with the Hamburg Ballet Company. Back in Australia she took up Pilates, completing her first course in New York with Romana Kryzanowska, and later added certifications through Pilates International, Balanced Body and BASI's Passing of the Torch Mentor Program. She founded her first studio in 2001 and owned Balance Moves in Bondi for twenty-four years before selling it in 2025 to concentrate on instructor training. The site sums this up as 30+ years of movement experience, 20+ years owning studios and 10+ years of teacher training, and the FAQ says its methods have guided thousands of instructors to teaching success.
The teaching rests on what Scott calls the block system, a structured way of building and cueing sequences that graduates in the testimonials credit with making exercises easier to learn and class planning simpler. One graduate, Ella Harris, writes that the system "allows you to go out and teach almost instantly" and that "It's very thorough but the way she has created it is so easy to remember and actionable for teachers." The advanced courses reuse the same structure. A student named Erin, who moved from the Barre Attack course to the Reformer course, writes that the shared structure made the second course easier to navigate.
What the courses cover
The two foundations courses are the Reformer Pilates Certification, which teaches instructors to lead Reformer Pilates classes, and the Barre Certification, which covers Barre Attack's high-energy classes combining Pilates, cardio and ballet. Above those sit advanced courses, online masterclasses and online workshops. For Barre Attack the course list names Ball & Elastics, Sliding Discs, Loop Band & Cardio and Freestyle courses, three online masterclasses and a Spring into Barre Special. For Balance 8 Pilates it names a Classical Pilates Mat Course, a Pilates Arc Course, a Boost & Burn Reformer Course, a Classical Reformer Pilates Course, a Classical Pilates Mat Discovery masterclass and online workshops on Pilates Arc on the Reformer, the Reformer jumpboard and hands-on cues for the mat. Several titles on the list carry a Coming Soon label with a form to register interest.
Bundles group the courses. There is a Barre Attack Complete Course Collection, a Balance 8 Pilates Reformer + Arc Premium Package that the site aims at new instructors and those expanding their timetable, and a Pilates & Barre Masterclass Discovery Bundle. The company calls each bundle the "best value way to fast-track your training".
The two advanced Barre Attack courses with full detail pages show what a typical course contains. Ball & Elastics, which builds on the Barre Certification foundations course and introduces new props, includes 80+ barre based exercises, 70 lessons, a 44-page manual, 60 educational videos, one full masterclass with a class plan, 10 movement drills at 128bpm and 9 quizzes, about 7 hours of online content in total. The site gives its average completion time as 2 days. Freestyle, a full-body conditioning course using body weight and small props that can be taught with or without a barre, is larger: 140 exercises, a 72-page manual, 77 videos, one masterclass, 9 movement drills and 8 quizzes, with 10 hours of content and an average completion time of 3 days. Both teach functional anatomy, sequencing for 45- and 60-minute class formats, verbal and visual cueing for group and private settings, and layering from beginner to advanced students. Both also include pre-made class plans, so a graduate has sequences ready for the first class while learning to design their own.
Certificates, CECs and recognition
Each course ends with a Course Completion Certificate, issued once the student completes all online modules and quizzes. The FAQ adds that the certificate of completion is sent after the student submits the quiz questions online and passes, and that a student can start teaching once the course is finished and an examination video is submitted. On recognition, the company says its courses are "globally certified", so graduates can teach anywhere in the world, and that they are recognized by AUSactive, which it describes as Australia's peak body for the exercise and active health sector; one course page uses the word accredited for the same relationship. The site states that completing a certification earns 11 CECs and that its advanced courses and continuing education programs can earn over 22 CECs.
According to the FAQ there are no licensing costs for teaching the method. It does advise graduates to take out public liability and professional indemnity insurance before teaching, and to check local rules and their insurer before teaching overseas.
Access, format and support
Purchase gives immediate access by email, and the courses run on what the site calls an on-demand learning platform. Students have 12 months from the day of purchase to finish. After that year the videos are removed, but the manuals are downloadable, so the written material stays with the student. Every exercise comes with several learning tools: video, PDF and guided practice clips. The VIP page describes the manuals as covering every exercise in the repertoire with notes, progressions, modifications, pictures and anatomical information.
For questions, students post inside the platform or send an email, and the FAQ says replies typically arrive within one to two days. Those taking the Face to Face or Zoom Live courses get their questions answered during the sessions. All courses are created and delivered by Scott herself, and one testimonial describes her working closely with each instructor during training.
Prices and payment
The two advanced course pages list an Online Only option at $349 AUD each, for Ball & Elastics and for Freestyle, with immediate access to all content. The site publishes no price for the two foundations certifications or the bundles. Payment runs through Kajabi, which the FAQ says handles card data securely, and payment plans are offered at checkout through Klarna and After Pay.
The VIP Instructor Membership
After certification, Body Maestro offers an optional VIP Instructor Membership for each brand. The Barre Attack version includes priority support from the Body Maestro team, new choreography every 14 days (two videos plus a ready-to-teach run sheet), priority access to new workshops, events and courses, official Barre Attack logos and marketing assets for promoting classes, the brand's Spotify class mixes, 20% off Barre Attack apparel and equipment, and an annual $100 gift voucher toward Body Maestro courses. The FAQ adds that members get access to all the class formats from their foundations course. Membership is optional, and the FAQ recommends it for new class formats and teaching support rather than requiring it.
Who it suits
Body Maestro fits instructors who want a clear, structured repertoire they can teach the following week and who value learning from the person who created the method. The testimonials come from a mix of backgrounds: people with long yoga and Pilates training records, a physiotherapy and exercise science graduate with no dance experience, and a former dancer who went on to complete every Barre Attack course. Instructors who live far from a training studio gain the most from the online format; one graduate wrote that living in a rural town made online training the right fit for her. The 12-month access window and per-course pricing suit someone building a repertoire one course at a time, and the VIP membership adds fresh choreography for those running weekly classes.
The main caveat is that most of the material is self-paced, with live contact concentrated in the in-person and Zoom formats. The curriculum is also tied closely to one teacher's system, which is the draw for many students but means it reflects a single approach rather than several.
