Saylor Academy

Saylor Academy has run since 2008 on the idea that a full general-education college curriculum, the kind that fills the first two years of a degree, should be available free to anyone, funded through grants and donations rather than tuition, with courses built by credentialed instructional designers rather than crowdsourced from any willing teacher.

Several of its courses carry an ACE credit recommendation, meaning some colleges will accept them for transfer credit, which sets it apart from most free platforms here where a certificate is a resume line rather than actual credit. Certificates cost a small flat fee, well under what a Coursera or edX Verified Certificate runs, and the platform suits an adult learner filling gaps in general education or exploring a subject seriously before enrolling somewhere that charges tuition.
