What the product is

AYEUM is a Turkish online course catalog for researchers. The name stands for "Araştırma Yöntemleri Eğitim ve Uygulama Merkezi," the Research Methods Education and Application Center, and the site says it offers training videos on scientific research methods and the software tied to them. Its footer describes the aim in more detail: AYEUM was set up to provide online and face-to-face training for researchers on the qualitative, quantitative and mixed methods used in the social, natural, health and educational sciences, and to explain research methods and the computer software used in research in depth to master's and doctoral students, postdoctoral researchers and specialists in public institutions. The same text says AYEUM also carries out institutional research. Everything on the site, from course titles to lesson lists, is in Turkish.

For a learner in this directory's data and AI category, AYEUM is where a Turkish-speaking graduate student or academic learns the statistics and analysis tools a thesis or journal article needs, with a set of courses on AI in academic work.

What the catalog covers

The course menu is organized by research need rather than by software alone. Categories include courses related to artificial intelligence; research methods courses specific to each field of science; SCI and SSCI article writing by discipline; project writing; statistics courses for SPSS, AMOS, R, SAS, Lisrel, SmartPLS, Mplus and other tools; medicine and health sciences; plagiarism and similarity screening and academic ethics; mixed methods; basic article and thesis writing; qualitative research and data analysis; data collection and academic presentation; EViews and econometrics software; meta-analysis with CMA, HLM and meta-thematic analysis; scale, test and survey development; reference and citation management; science and engineering; and courses common to all fields.

The data and statistics side is deep. Examples on the homepage include:

  • R: basic statistics with R (14 videos), data visualization with R Studio for the social sciences (30 videos), advanced analyses with R (29 videos), power analysis and sample size calculation with R (9 videos), data science with R (19 videos) and meta-analysis with R (16 videos).
  • SPSS: an all-in-one SPSS package from basic to advanced (37 videos), basic and advanced SPSS data analysis courses, cluster analysis with SPSS and R, survival analysis for medical and health researchers, and SPSS-based biostatistics for medicine, dentistry and pharmacy.
  • Structural equation modeling and factor analysis: several AMOS courses, Mplus for SEM at basic and advanced level (8 videos), latent profile analysis with Mplus, SmartPLS basic and advanced analyses (11 videos), and exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis with FAfA (21 videos).
  • Other tools: Jamovi and JASP for health informatics, an advanced Jamovi course, STATA and EViews econometrics, GAUSS time series analysis, basic MATLAB with numerical analysis, multi-criteria decision-making methods, and analytic hierarchy process in Excel.
  • Machine learning and AI: a course on machine learning in theory and practice (11 videos), effective prompt design for working with AI (5 videos), use of AI tools in academic research (5 videos), and AI in academic writing covering opportunities, risks and detection tools (6 videos).

Qualitative researchers get MAXQDA at basic and advanced level, advanced NVivo, focus group interviews, ethnographic research and qualitative comparative analysis (QCA). Writing and publishing courses cover thesis writing, academic writing for beginners, finding suitable SCI, SSCI and AHCI journals, predatory journals and publishers, and publishing strategies for SCI and SSCI journals, the largest of which runs to 40 videos. Reference managers such as Zotero (16 videos) and Mendeley (12 videos) and a bibliometric analysis course round out the tools.

How a course works

Each course is a set of recorded video lessons with its own detail page. The AMOS course on simple, serial, parallel and conditional mediation models is a typical example: six lessons running from an introduction through the definition and stages of SEM, an introduction to AMOS, confirmatory factor analysis and structural model analysis to conditional mediation models, with the page stating "Bu ders toplam 200 dk'dır" (this course is 200 minutes in total). The page says it was written for two groups: people with little or no knowledge of SEM or AMOS, and students and researchers trained in research methods at undergraduate or graduate level who need to learn how AMOS works in their own studies. The R meta-analysis course is longer, with 16 lessons over 415 minutes, moving from core meta-analysis concepts and an introduction to R and RStudio through effect sizes, subgroup analysis and meta-regression to publication bias and fail-safe N calculations.

Course cards list the same features: interactive, an online exam, and the chance to put questions to the instructor ("Eğitmene soru sorma imkanı"). The cards on the home page also print "Katılım Belgesi: Evet" (certificate of participation: yes) and "Garanti: % 100 Memnuniyet ve İade Garantisi" (guarantee: 100% satisfaction and refund guarantee). A few cards mark "Online Sınav: Yok," meaning that course has no online exam, and the R meta-analysis course adds the chance to work on the data. The question channel is visible on the course pages, where learners post questions under the lessons and the instructor replies by name. On the AMOS page, Doç. Dr. Daimi Koçak answers questions about standardized estimates and sends lesson code and formula files to learners by email; on the R meta-analysis page, the instructor writes long answers on fail-safe N and dependent effect sizes.

Before buying, a learner can watch a promotional video and a sample lesson on each course page, and a separate sample lessons page offers previews of four courses: a plagiarism and citation course (10 videos), test and item analysis with TAP (10 videos), advanced NVivo and qualitative data analysis (14 videos) and scale development and adaptation (10 videos). Course access is listed as "7/24."

Instructors

The courses are taught by Turkish academics, listed with their titles: professors, associate professors (Doç. Dr.) and assistant professors (Dr. Öğr. Üyesi). Course pages carry a short biography. The AMOS instructor, Doç. Dr. Daimi Koçak, holds a doctorate in business and teaches in the Aviation Management department of Erzincan Binali Yıldırım University's civil aviation school, has published on organizational citizenship behavior, leadership, organizational culture and job satisfaction, and has written a book on structural equation modeling with AMOS. The R meta-analysis instructor, Mehmet Taha Eser, studied measurement and evaluation in education at Hacettepe University, completing his doctorate in 2019, and works at Aydın Adnan Menderes University's Faculty of Education. Other instructors on the homepage include Prof. Dr. Sedat Şen for Mplus, Doç. Dr. Hasan Bulut for several R and SPSS courses and Prof. Dr. Mustafa Agah Tekindal for biostatistics and Jamovi.

Prices, access and university subscriptions

Courses are bought one at a time through a shopping cart, with prices in Turkish lira. Most homepage prices sit between 1,999.99 TL and 2,355.99 TL, with longer courses higher: the mixed methods course is listed at 2,999.99 TL and the SPSS all-in-one package at 2,599.99 TL. Each purchase comes with a fixed viewing period. Most courses give 75 days, while others list 60, 90, 105, 135 or 150 days, and the SPSS package gives 215 days. The AMOS mediation course, for example, costs 2,030.99 TL with a 90-day viewing period, and the R meta-analysis course costs 2,030.99 TL for 75 days.

Universities can subscribe as institutions. A banner on every page invites visitors to learn more about the university subscription, the menu has an institutional login, and the APID login page explains that university administrators can sign in there to reach their university's statistics. The site also lists upcoming events alongside the online courses.

Who it suits

AYEUM suits a Turkish-speaking master's or doctoral student, postdoc or public-sector specialist who has to run a specific analysis, such as an SEM in AMOS, a meta-analysis in R or a qualitative study in MAXQDA, and wants a focused course from an academic who uses the method, with a way to ask that person questions. Because courses are sold singly with time-limited access, it works best for someone who needs one tool for a current project and will study it within the viewing period. Universities that want campus-wide access have the subscription and an administrator statistics portal.

It is a weaker fit for anyone who does not read Turkish, for learners who want an open-ended subscription to the whole catalog as an individual, or for industry analysts looking for business analytics training, since the courses are framed around theses, articles and research projects.
