What TMILLY TV is

TMILLY TV is a subscription video service for learning dance choreography at home. It is aimed at learners, from people who have never taken a class to working dancers, and it sells one thing: unlimited access to a library of pre-recorded classes taught by professional choreographers. The homepage headline reads "ONLINE CLASSES FROM THE STUDIO THAT STARTED IT ALL," presenting the service as the online arm of the TMILLY dance studio, and its tagline promises "Unlimited access for the cost of just one dance class." The homepage counts 350 online classes with an average length of 21 minutes, 15 dance styles including hip-hop, heels and contemporary, and 80 instructors "who have worked with a-list artists." The FAQ phrases it as over 350+ classes taught by over 80 top choreographers across 10+ styles.

Styles, levels and instructors

The style list on the homepage runs through contemporary, hip hop, jazz funk, jazz, heels, house, lyrical, waacking, fundamentals, salsa, breaking and ballroom, and the scrolling banner adds popping and waving. Several entry points are set up as collections: Beginner Hip-Hop, described as "beginner-friendly classes" to start off on the right foot; Learn to Dance in Heels, which the page says works whether "you have two left feet or can do a triple turn into the splits"; and Contemporary, built around telling a story through expressive routines.

Every class is tagged by level. Beginner is "For those looking to get started," Intermediate is "Time to level up," and Advanced is "You’re not messing around." The FAQ describes the three levels as covering people just starting out, seasoned dancers and professionals. That makes the catalog usable as a progression: a newcomer can stay in the beginner classes of one style until the steps feel natural, then move up a level or try a second style with the same subscription.

The homepage introduces eight of the instructors by name: Jake Kodish, Erica Klein, Ray Basa, Brian Friedman, Cat Rendic, Flipz, Tricia Miranda and Talia Favia, out of the 80 on the platform. The FAQ sums up the range as "a class, style, and instructor for everyone on TMILLY TV!"

How the classes work

Almost all classes are pre-recorded, so there is no timetable to follow. The FAQ says all classes are "available when you need them" and that students can "pause, rewind, and replay at your own pace as many times as you would like." For choreography, where a sequence has to be broken down and drilled before it sticks, that replay control is the main point of the format: a tricky eight-count can be replayed again and again until it is clean. At an average of 21 minutes, a class fits into a lunch break or an evening at home.

TMILLY occasionally runs live classes, but on its Instagram page rather than inside the service, and the FAQ suggests following that account to hear about them. The classes play on a smartphone, tablet, TV or computer, and the FAQ refers to an iPhone app and an Apple TV app, which matters for dance: a TV makes it easier to follow footwork at full size while practicing in a living room.

The homepage testimonials show what the service has meant for some users. Tanishq Joshi, writing from Mumbai, says they started learning choreography on TMILLY TV when it hosted an online dance competition, won the grand prize, and a few years later was asked to teach classes on the platform. Aroha Imai, in Tokyo, calls it "a priceless tool for learning dance from anywhere in the world." Vinh Castle, from Cleveland, Ohio, writes that "the video quality is top notch and they have a ton of variety in styles and levels."

Plans and prices

The homepage lists two plans. The Yearly Plan costs $99 in total, shown as $8.25 a month, and the Monthly Plan costs $19.99 a month with cancellation at any time. The FAQ also mentions a 6 month plan; it and the yearly plan are both paid up front at sign-up, which the FAQ says makes them much cheaper per month than the monthly plan, and neither bills again until its period runs out. Every plan includes unlimited access to the whole catalog, with no tiers or locked content. Each plan button offers a free trial ("TRY FOR FREE," "START FREE TRIAL").

There are no single-class purchases. The FAQ adds that a single class, if it were sold, would be priced like a month of the subscription, and suggests that someone interested in just one class sign up monthly and cancel later. Gift cards can be bought from the site, and the company occasionally posts discount codes on Instagram.

The refund policy is strict: "Subscriptions are non-refundable." A monthly subscriber can cancel at any time, is not charged for further months, and keeps access until the paid month ends. A yearly subscriber can cancel too, but gets no refund for the rest of the year, and keeps access until the year is up. Cancellation runs through My Account, then Purchases, then Cancel Membership; subscriptions started in the iPhone or Apple TV app are managed by Apple and canceled there.

Support

Support runs through two channels. An email to the support team usually gets a reply within 2 business days, and a chat box in the bottom right corner of the site can be used at any time, with replies that the FAQ says may come right away or take a few hours.

Who it suits

TMILLY TV suits dancers who learn well from video and want variety: hobbyists who want to try heels, waacking or house without signing up at a studio, beginners who would rather work through their first hip-hop classes in private, and trained dancers who want to pick up choreography from well-known teachers between in-person classes. The yearly plan keeps the cost low for anyone who will dance more than a few times a month, and the free trial gives a way to check the instructors and video quality first.

Two limits come with the format. The classes are recorded, so there is no teacher watching and correcting a student's technique, and the only live sessions are the occasional ones on Instagram. And because subscriptions are non-refundable, a learner unsure about a full year is better served by the free trial and the monthly plan, upgrading once the habit has stuck.
