QC Makeup Academy

QC Makeup Academy is an online makeup school that sells professional certificate courses to people who want to work as makeup artists. It is a learner product: you enroll in a course, study online at your own pace, send in assignments and get feedback from a tutor, rather than building or selling courses of your own. The school's contact details give a street address at 38 McArthur Ave in Ottawa, ON, and its page title describes it as a "World Leader in Makeup Education". The home page pitches makeup artistry as "a booming career" across bridal, corporate, celebrity and film work, and promises that a student can "become a booked out MUA in only a few short months".
The school says it has helped "8000+ students and grads start their own successful makeup businesses and land jobs with high-end brands like MAC, Benefit, and Sephora". That is the school's own claim about its graduates, printed on its home page next to a set of student testimonials.
What a student gets
The home page lists what a student gets access to: "World-class training from expert celebrity makeup instructors", "Personalized audio feedback from your makeup tutors", "Discounts on professional makeup and tools from leading brands", "Professional, internationally recognized makeup certifications", and "Bonus content and trainings in our thriving virtual classroom".
The tutor feedback is the core of the format. The school describes it as personalized audio feedback, so a student hears a tutor talk through their work, and the site keeps a Tutors page alongside its FAQ and About pages.
Training is online and flexible. The tuition page opens with "Start your new makeup career with QC's flexible online training!", and one graduate testimonial, from Veronika Kelle, says "What I enjoyed the most was that I could learn online at my own pace". Another, from Gemma-Louise Mannering, mentions that she is "continuously learning via their online webinars".
The course catalog
The flagship is Master Makeup Artistry. The home page says it is "Taught by celebrity artist Nathan Johnson" and that this "comprehensive online course will give you the skills and training you need to become a professional makeup artist." The tuition page sums it up as "Master makeup foundations, advanced techniques, and business training, perfect for aspiring makeup artists." So the course covers both the craft and the business side of freelance makeup work.
Around it sit specialty courses, each with a one-line pitch on the site:
- Skincare Consultant, for someone "diving into skincare or expanding your makeup services", with the aim of making you "a confident skincare professional".
- Special FX Makeup, aimed at a career in film, television or theater, and billed on the tuition page as a route to "Become a Special FX Makeup Professional".
- Airbrush Makeup Workshop, which promises techniques "to become a more competitive makeup artist" and an airbrush specialization.
- Hair Styling Essentials, for hairstyling skills aimed at film, television or bridal work, pitched as "Become a Professional Hair Stylist".
- Pro Makeup Workshop, to "Take your artistry to the next level and expand your makeup business".
- Portfolio Development, with the line "Build a Portfolio That Gets Noticed".
- Personal Styling, which leads to a personal styling specialization.
The menu also lists Personal Interest courses for people learning for themselves, and a Makeup Coaching section. Anyone who wants the full list on paper can fill in a short form (first name, last name, email) to request a course catalog.
The All-Access Program
The tuition page labels the All-Access Program "BEST VALUE" and ties it to the "Elite Beauty Professional Designation". It gives full access to every QC Makeup Academy course, and the page lists what that is meant to deliver: the fundamentals plus "advanced skills like special FX makeup, airbrushing, hairstyling, and more", a certificate for each course completed, the Elite Beauty Professional Certificate, which the page presents as the credential to showcase your expertise, and the promise to "Graduate in under a year, fully prepared to work in any sector from bridal and fashion, to film and television". It also says the bundle lets you "Save up to 60% on total course fees".
The program is framed around building "a Full-Service Beauty Business", so it suits someone who wants to offer makeup, skin, hair and styling services together rather than one specialty.
Certificates
The professional courses lead to certificates, and the tuition page is headed "Online Certification Courses". It says students "Earn a certificate for each course completed, proving your full range of skills to clients and agencies", and the home page closes with "Become a professionally certified MUA with QC's comprehensive online makeup training." The phrase "internationally recognized" is the school's own description of its certifications. The pages name no accrediting or approving body behind them, so read these as QC's own certificates of completion.
Pricing, payment and the guarantee
The site banner reads "Start for $49", which is the entry price QC advertises for getting started. The tuition page offers the All-Access Program as either a one-time payment or monthly installments, and the one-time option carries the line "Pay in full today and save an additional" discount. The page lists "Lifetime Access" alongside monthly installments. A second banner promotes a current offer: "Get the Pro Makeup Workshop Free + a Bonus Makeup Kit". The tuition page shows a "TOTAL VALUE" label and a per-month field but prints no tuition figure for individual courses or for All-Access.
Refunds are covered by a 14-day money-back guarantee. In the school's words, "you'll have 14 days to review your course. If you have a question or concern, contact us. If in the 14 days, you decide the course isn't for you, we'll give you a full refund." It adds that more detail is in the enrollment agreement.
Community, discounts and support
Students join what the school calls its Virtual Community, where "students and graduates can connect with mentors, share insights and grow together". It offers free webinars "where top makeup artists share industry secrets" and discussions "covering everything from your latest assignment to your next career move". Candace Lyttle, a Master Makeup graduate, writes that she "Learned so much, and met so many people", and says she plans to take the Airbrush and Special FX courses next.
Once enrolled, and after graduating, students can use "exclusive professional discounts offered by our preferred makeup partners". For a new artist putting together a first professional kit, that perk has real value.
Other parts of the site back up the courses: a Student Showcase and Testimonials section, an FAQ, and the Beauty Buzz Blog, with sections for student and graduate features, expert articles, tips and tutorials, and makeup careers. Students reach the school by phone, email, a message form or live chat.
Who it suits
QC Makeup Academy suits someone who wants to turn makeup into paid work and likes a structured course with a person reviewing their assignments. Career changers will find Master Makeup Artistry useful because it pairs technique with business training. Working artists can add a single specialty, such as airbrush, special FX or hair, without starting over, and the All-Access Program fits someone aiming to offer a full range of beauty services within a year. Michelle Sayers Strauss, a former high school English teacher studying Master Makeup Artistry, praises "the quality of writing in the content. It is intelligent, descriptive, clear, and thoughtful."
It is a weaker fit for someone who wants to learn in a physical studio, because everything is delivered online and tutor feedback comes as audio. A learner who needs a credential issued by an outside licensing body should note that the certificates are QC's own. Someone just curious about makeup may prefer the Personal Interest courses to the professional track.
