What Learnetic and mAuthor Are

Learnetic SA is an educational technology company that builds digital publishing tools for textbook publishers, ministries of education and EdTech companies, and mAuthor is its flagship authoring platform. The mAuthor page calls it "the Most Powerful Authoring Platform for Educational Publishers and Professional Content Creators." Publishers use it to turn textbooks into interactive digital lessons and eTextbooks, mostly for schools from primary to secondary level, with some vocational and higher education content. The site's address is in Poland.

The company describes itself as working with "leading educational publishers, Ministries of Education and EdTech entrepreneurs across six continents," and the About page says its suite is built on "20+ years of incremental expertise from over 350 projects across 50 countries worldwide," with a team of over 200 software and eContent developers. Alongside mAuthor, Learnetic sells mCourser, a white-label LMS and content distribution platform; EdTool PRO, an AI-powered ePublishing hub for publishers; EdTool.ai for schools and teachers; ready-made content packages; and content development services. The mAuthor page points school teachers to edtool.ai, so mAuthor itself is aimed at professional content teams.

Building Lessons with 150+ Modules

mAuthor's core is a library of more than 150 ready-made functional modules. Standard modules such as Text, Choice, Multiple Gap and Text Selection cover the basic activities. Advanced math modules handle polynomials, fractions, graphs, plots and pie charts, with LaTeX integration for equations, interactive functions and scientific formulas, which makes the tool well suited to STEM subjects. Edu-games and media modules add crosswords, memo games, puzzles and board games that authors fill with subject content. Reporting modules provide custom scoring, error counting, lesson progress monitoring and page ratings, giving learners instant feedback and teachers progress reports. Scripting modules include feedback, an eKeyboard, an event listener and the Advanced Connector, based on JavaScript, and the open architecture supports external plug-ins for features beyond the standard set.

Layouts are responsive. Authors control separate page layouts for desktop (horizontal) and mobile (vertical) views, and the content adapts to screen size and orientation. Lessons can also adapt to the learner: mAuthor supports adaptive learning paths that offer extra support to struggling learners or harder tasks to strong ones, and its Big Data analytics capture time spent on tasks, response patterns and navigation behavior so publishers can refine their content.

Production is a team activity, and the page says authors can organize workflows and assign tasks across a publishing team. Samples on the site include biology, mathematics, English, physics and vocational electricity lessons, and a customer, Oscar Herrera of Vicens Vives in Spain, says Learnetic developed a series of approximately 15,000 interactive activities covering 6 grades of primary mathematics for its eTextbooks.

AI Modules

AI features come as modules that can be added to mAuthor lessons and eTextbooks on a project basis. The AI Tutor "Enables natural conversation about lesson topics in both written and spoken forms." AI for Mastering Vocabulary, which the page calls the most popular, gives extended audio and written descriptions of words, usage examples, common collocations and pronunciation. AI Descriptive Feedback comments on exercises according to their complexity, and AI Quantitative Feedback, described as the most complex module, scores spoken exercises on proficiency, relevance, grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation. AI Open-Ended Activities Grading automates the repetitive grading of similar open answers, and teachers can accept the suggested grade or enter their own.

On privacy the page is explicit: the modules work with region-specific AI engines, external AI modules are opted out of training by default, and "No teacher or learner data is used to train our modules without explicit permission."

Accessibility and Multi-Language Work

Accessibility is a major theme because of the EU's WCAG 2.2 requirement for digital educational content, which the site says took effect in June 2025. mAuthor is presented as a tool for building WCAG 2.2-compliant materials, with native assistive features including a text-to-speech module, a screen reader, auto-captioning, audio descriptions, subtitles, alt text and dark mode. Learnetic also sells WCAG 2.2 review packages in which its experts check existing content and send a list of recommended improvements; buyers of the Professional and Enterprise review packages get a 15% discount on an annual mAuthor license for a 3-person content creator team, with technical support and initial training included. The About page claims Learnetic is "the world-wide leaders in respect of WCAG 2.1 support and Adaptive Learning capabilities."

For international publishers, mAuthor supports multiple alphabets and symbols, right-to-left writing systems such as Arabic or Hebrew, customizable mathematical notation for regional styles, and localized fonts, styles and layouts.

Export and Delivery

Finished content can go almost anywhere. mAuthor exports eContent "as HTML5, SCORM 1.2, SCORM 2004, and xAPI (Tin Can API) packages" for use in any compatible LMS, and the page says it can be deployed on any eLearning platform, LMS or VLE, or embedded directly in a website. The About page adds that Learnetic's solutions support iOS, Android and Windows and work on most desktop and mobile platforms.

Publishers that want their own platform can use mCourser, the white-label LMS and distribution platform. It offers LTI 1.3 compatibility for sharing content with other LMSs while keeping control of hosting and updates, direct sales to schools, teachers and students, AI-powered grading with teacher review, scheduling tools, roles for teachers, students, parents and administrators, chats, group discussions and class-wide video sessions, role-based Big Data reports, SSL encryption and GDPR compliance. Its offline companion app, mLibro, lets students download lessons on Windows, iOS or Android, work offline and sync results when reconnected. Named mCourser implementations include Pearson English Connect, Bordas, Editis, Klett in Serbia and the Czech Republic, and the Ministry of Education of Mongolia.

Ready-Made Content, Services and Support

Publishers short on time can license ready-made packages: the homepage cites 4500+ interactive digital lessons across STEM, ESL, special educational needs and more, and the package list runs from Mathematics for grades 1 to 6 to interactive science laboratories for grades 9 to 12. One of them, ICONS (Interactive Charts of Natural Science), won the GESS 2024 Award for Best Resource for Secondary Education. Learnetic's own instructional designers also digitize textbooks for publishers.

The site lists ISO/IEC 27001, ISO 9001 and GDPR compliance under its certificates and policies, and memberships in the IPA's Educational Publishers Forum, the European Educational Publishers Group and the Worlddidac Association. Support options run from email, phone and ticketing up to a dedicated premium support account. Customer quotes back this up: Rui Pacheco of Porto Editora says "the support from Learnetic is really very good," and Bruce Wilcox of Carolina in the United States says mAuthor "is easy to use with a wide variety of templates and interaction types already built into the authoring tool."

Pricing and Trial

Prices are not listed. mAuthor and mCourser each have a pricing plans form, and the About page says pricing plans "can be easily adapted to your current position and grow along with your increasing needs and scale of activities." Professionals can request a 30-day free trial of mAuthor, which the site says includes access to all premium features, and demos are available for both products.

Who It Suits

mAuthor fits educational publishers, EdTech companies and ministries that produce interactive textbooks at scale, especially in mathematics and science, and that need accessibility, multiple languages and alphabets, and SCORM or xAPI output. Publishers that also want to sell and distribute their content get a matching white-label LMS in mCourser, and those without in-house capacity can buy ready-made lessons or development services from the same company.

It is less of a fit for an individual teacher, whom Learnetic itself directs to EdTool.ai, or for a corporate trainer, since the modules, samples and services are built around K-12 publishing. The 30-day trial is the practical way for a publisher's content team to test the module library before asking for a price.
