Cinema8 is a video hosting and interactive video platform run by Cinema8 Ltd., which its about page places at a Cambridge headquarters, with a second office in Istanbul. The about page calls it "a secure video hosting platform designed for businesses that need visibility, control, and integration across their video workflows," and says the company works with over 100 enterprise clients in 22 countries. Much of the product is aimed at marketing and sales video, but its SCORM and LTI tools make it a course authoring option for training teams: a video becomes an interactive lesson with quizzes, hotspots and branching, then goes into an LMS as a SCORM package or through an LTI connection.

The SCORM and LTI page names three audiences: educators and trainers delivering lessons through an LMS, corporate learning teams running compliance training and onboarding, and course creators who want to monetize courses by building SCORM-compliant modules for existing LMS platforms.

Creating and editing video

Content can start inside Cinema8. The platform records the screen, the webcam or both, and every paid plan includes unlimited screen recording time. Uploaded or recorded videos can be cut in the built-in editor, which handles trimming, merging, adding background music, and flipping or rotating vertical video. There is a subtitle editor, playlists and channels for organizing a library, and FTP upload on the larger plans for moving a big library across.

AI tools take on the repetitive work. All plans get AI-generated subtitles, and the Pro plan adds AI chapters, SEO metadata and search within the speech of a video. Auto tagging with SEO-friendly video summaries is also on the feature list. Subtitle translation into over 100 languages and text-to-speech narration are listed as Enterprise features. AI use is metered in tokens, from a one-time grant of 100 on the Free plan to 15,000 a month on Business.

Making a video interactive

Interactivity is added with drag-and-drop widgets on the video timeline. The basic set covers clickable CTAs and hotspots, lead-generation forms inside the video, pop-up cards, adaptive intro forms and manual chapters. From the Pro plan, authors get the pro widget library, which the pricing page says holds over 500 ready-made widgets.

For training, the important tools sit in Interaction Designer Pro, the advanced editor. The pricing page lists a multi-layer design canvas, branching and gamification with non-linear paths, scoring and conditional logic, 100+ advanced widgets including quizzes, polls, sliders and reveal cards, a 360° interactivity studio, sticky hotspots that track moving objects, and "Scoring & certification" for LMS-ready assessment and progress tracking. It is an add-on from $249 a month on Pro Plus and $299 a month on Starter and Pro, and it is included with Business and Enterprise.

The home page describes the training use in one line for HR and onboarding teams: 360-degree videos, scenario-based modules and adaptive quizzes. The SCORM FAQ adds that trainers can see where learners struggle and add conditional decision points to the video.

SCORM, LTI and xAPI

The SCORM and LTI page covers the delivery side. Cinema8 exports "training videos, quizzes, and interactive modules as SCORM 1.2 or 2004 packages that work with any SCORM-compliant LMS." The FAQ explains the choice: SCORM 1.2 for broad compatibility and basic tracking, SCORM 2004 for sequencing rules and more detailed reporting. SCORM tracking covers completion status, quiz results, time spent and interaction with embedded elements.

LTI is the alternative to uploading packages. Once Cinema8 is connected, learners open its content from their LMS dashboard, and trainers deliver SCORM packages, interactive video lessons or assessments straight from the Cinema8 library without re-uploading. For xAPI, the FAQ says Cinema8 offers integration via custom widget development, using JavaScript widgets to issue xAPI statements to a Learning Record Store. On the pricing page, SCORM and xAPI export are listed from the Pro Plus plan up.

Teams without an LMS can still deliver training from Cinema8 itself, hosting and streaming videos with quizzes, pop-ups and branching paths and reading the engagement data in Cinema8's own analytics.

Video hosting and delivery

Hosting is the base of the product. Cinema8 has an ad-free player that can carry a company's colors and logo, a built-in CDN for adaptive streaming, and sharing by link, email, social posts, embeds, a JavaScript API embed, personalized secure links per viewer and scheduled releases. Access controls include password protection, in-video SSO for viewers with data encryption (Pro), domain restriction (Pro Plus), admin SSO and SCIM directory sync (Business) and IP restriction (Enterprise). The about page lists ISO 27001 certification and data centers based in the UK, and the video CDN page says the infrastructure protects content in transit and at rest.

Developers get a server-side REST API, a WebSocket API, JavaScript API access to interactive features, and webhooks. Named integrations include Iframely, Embedly, oEmbed and Player.js, After Effects, Google Tag Manager, Google Fonts, CRM platforms and email platforms.

Analytics

Every plan includes analytics. The Free and Starter plans cover views, engagement rates and basic A/B testing, with CSV data exports. From Pro, heatmaps and interaction reports show how individual viewers responded to each interactive element. For a training team this means seeing quiz results, interaction points and drop-off behavior in one place, alongside the completion data the LMS receives through SCORM.

Plans and prices

The pricing page quotes prices per month, billed yearly, and says annual billing saves 20% against monthly:

  • Free, $0: 1 seat, 2GB storage, 500GB bandwidth, up to 10 videos, docs and community support, with no time limit.
  • Starter, $12 a month: 100GB storage, 1TB bandwidth, up to 60 videos, CRM-connected lead forms, a customizable player, email support with a 72h SLA.
  • Pro, $24 a month: 500GB storage, 2TB bandwidth, up to 150 videos, heatmaps, in-video SSO, 48h SLA.
  • Pro Plus, $84 a month: unlimited seats, 2TB storage and bandwidth, up to 600 videos, SCORM and xAPI export, webhooks, domain restriction, 24h SLA.
  • Business, $639 a month: 5TB storage, 15TB bandwidth, unlimited videos, Interaction Designer Pro included, SSO and SCIM, white-label branding, 8h SLA.
  • Enterprise, on request: from 10TB storage and 50TB delivery, custom domain, ad monetization with VAST/VPAID, a dedicated customer success manager with a negotiated SLA and white-glove onboarding.

Paid plans start with a 14-day trial with full access to the selected plan's features. Storage packs add 100GB for $19, 1TB for $149 or 5TB for $549 a month, and delivery packs run from 1TB for $79 to 50TB for $2,299 a month, on Pro Plus, Business and Enterprise. Payment is by debit or credit card, and the team offers guided migration from another video host.

Who it suits and who it does not

Cinema8 suits training teams and educators who build lessons out of video and want hosting, interactive authoring and LMS delivery in one tool: onboarding modules with branching scenarios, compliance videos with quizzes tracked through SCORM, or 360° learning content. Testimonials on the video CDN page come from the London College of Contemporary Arts, where Chi-Ming Tan writes that Cinema8 "engaged and motivated students with 360-degree videos at the Tate Gallery," and from Mississippi State University. An Education Partner Program is open to colleges and universities.

The catch for course authors is where the learning features sit. SCORM export starts at Pro Plus, and branching, scoring and the 360° studio need Interaction Designer Pro or the Business plan, so a training team should price the plan it needs rather than the entry tier.
