MasteryPrep is a test prep company that works through schools rather than selling to individual students. Its site describes "a suite of digital test prep tools, plus live workshops, that boost student achievement on high-stakes assessments," offered at no cost to families. The buyer is a school or district leader, and the learners are that school's students, who get access through their classes. The home page says MasteryPrep is "Trusted by 3,000+ Schools and Districts Nationwide," and its founder and CEO, Craig Gehring, sums up the model in one line: "We work with schools to design a program that works within the confines of the school day. It's at no cost to the families, and every student gets access." The company frames this as "Equitable Test Prep That Levels the Playing Field."

Which tests it covers

MasteryPrep lists "Standards-Aligned Readiness Solutions for Schools and Districts" across seven assessment areas, and describes each program in a sentence or two:

  • ACT. "An end-to-end prep program featuring official ACT questions and a curriculum that helps students master the skills that matter," with boot camps also available for the PreACT.
  • SAT. "A comprehensive program that focuses on the most heavily assessed SAT topics and skills," with boot camps also available for the PSAT.
  • TSIA2. A targeted college readiness program that prepares students to meet the Texas Success Initiative Assessment benchmarks in reading, writing and math.
  • WorkKeys. "A program designed to help students earn a Gold or Silver NCRC, combining true curriculum with engaging workshops for career readiness success."
  • Classic Learning Test (CLT). Practice testing, adaptive online learning and live workshops aligned to the CLT's emphasis on verbal reasoning, mathematics and writing.
  • State-based end-of-course (EOC) assessments. Programs for state-specific EOC exams, with single-subject and comprehensive versions.

Together these cover college admissions tests, a college placement test, a career readiness assessment and state accountability exams, so a single high school can run several of them through one vendor.

What a school gets

The product menu breaks the offer into parts a school can combine. Practice testing and an online course give students self-paced digital work, and the CLT description shows the online learning is adaptive. A curriculum product gives teachers material to teach from. Boot camps are live, intensive sessions; a featured video shows one at Grand Prairie ISD in Texas, an ACT boot camp that "combined skill reinforcement and practical test-taking strategies ahead of test day." Bell Ringers are short warm-up activities for the start of class. The College Playbook rounds out the product list. On the adult side, professional development and educator support help teachers run the program, which matters because the model depends on prep happening inside regular classes.

The company's own staff lead that training. An upcoming webinar listed on the home page, "Building a Test Prep Strategy That Works for the 2026–27 School Year," is presented by Dr. Mya Asberry, MasteryPrep's Director of Instructional Services, and promises "a practical framework for integrating college readiness into everyday teaching" without taking time away from core instruction. A resources section adds a blog, customer stories, guides and planning tools, webinars and videos, and news. One guide, "A School and District Leader's Guide to Evaluating Test Prep Support," offers seven questions and a checklist for choosing a readiness solution.

State programs and partnerships

MasteryPrep packages its tests by state, with dedicated solutions for Alabama, Florida, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Texas. The reasoning, in the site's words: "Each state has specific tests that determine college and career readiness. In many cases, scores from these tests directly contribute to accountability metrics."

The site's legal notes are worth reading before signing. They say some items in the ACT programs are ACT Education Corp. content reproduced with permission, while MasteryPrep LLC has no affiliation with the College Board and its SAT programs are not approved or endorsed by the College Board. The TSIA2, the notes explain, is an ACCUPLACER exam, and MasteryPrep has no affiliation with the College Board or the Texas Success Initiative. The WorkKeys programs, likewise, are not approved or endorsed by ACT Education Corp., even though a separate WorkKeys curriculum runs through a partnership with ACT.

Three partnerships appear on the home page. ACT Online Prep is "Powered by MasteryPrep," which the company describes as providing "a next-generation ACT preparation platform as a strategic partner of ACT Education Corp." The ACT WorkKeys Curriculum is delivered through a strategic partnership with ACT to build workplace skills and support NCRC readiness. And MasteryPrep supports TRIO and GEAR UP, "Helping federally funded college access initiatives strengthen student readiness for high-stakes assessments."

Results the company reports

The home page shows three customer stories. At Yselta ISD in Texas, "28.7% of the Class of 2024" was college-ready in reading and math, "up from 24.5% in 2023." In Charlotte-Mecklenburg, North Carolina, "6 out of 9 schools that participated in a pilot ACT test-prep program reported year-over-year average composite score increases." At Jackson County Schools in West Virginia, eleventh-grade SAT reading proficiency "rose to 60.67% in 2024 from 45.64% in 2021." These are district-level figures the company selected to show, each linked to a fuller case study.

Pricing and getting started

Families pay nothing; the school or district is the customer. The site has a Pricing page in its menu and a "Schedule a Call" button, and existing customers log in through a customer portal and a help center.

Who it suits

MasteryPrep suits a district or high school leader who wants to raise results on the ACT, SAT, CLT, TSIA2, WorkKeys or a state end-of-course exam for a whole student body, not only for the families who can pay for private prep. It fits schools that prefer to build prep into the school day through bell ringers, curriculum and teacher training, and that want boot camps before test dates. Schools in the nine states with dedicated solutions, and TRIO or GEAR UP programs, have a clear starting point. Parents and students reach MasteryPrep through their school rather than buying it themselves, so for a family the product arrives as part of the school's own college readiness plan.
