What Themis Bar Review is
Themis Bar Review is an online course that prepares law graduates for the bar exam, plus a set of related programs for law students: MPRE review, Law School Essentials and an LLM course. The company is Themis Bar Review LLC, and its comparison page describes it as "a UWorld company"; checkout on the site runs through UWorld. The FAQ says Themis is "the only major bar review course developed to be completely online", and that Themis courses run in "49" jurisdictions, from Alabama to Wyoming and the Virgin Islands. The same site notes that Louisiana and Mississippi are not covered.
It is a product for learners. A graduate enrolls for a specific jurisdiction and exam date, gets the full course in the myThemis Portal, and works through it with a small team of Themis staff checking in.
The homepage sums up the method in one line: its Prime, Present, Practice framework "is designed to keep your attention and processing power focused on the task at hand: preparing for the bar exam." The company says the approach rests on "Years of research across fields like cognitive science, educational psychology, and multimedia learning" and on "decades of experience with the bar exam".
What is in the course
Lectures are short. The homepage says they are "segmented into 15-20 minute chapters specifically to optimize the amount of information you retain", and the FAQ adds that each chapter is "followed by a series of assessment questions". Lectures come with outlines and interactive handouts you can print. Hard copies are included too: the FAQ lists "hard copies of the Multistate Bar Exam (MBE) and state outlines, the MBE Practice and Simulated exams, and Performance Test (PT) questions (if tested in your jurisdiction)".
Practice is substantial. The homepage promises "Over 4,000 MBE-Style Practice Questions, including all available licensed NCBE questions from past bar exams", and the course page lists the UWorld MBE QBank as integrated into all Themis courses, along with "Enhanced Visual Aids" in lectures, answer rationales and outlines. There are practice and simulated exams for every exam component, workshops on test-taking strategies, diagnostic assessments that find strengths and weaknesses, and digital flashcards.
Essay writing gets two kinds of feedback. UGrader is the AI essay grader, described as "Refined by legal professionals to meet current bar exam standards". Alongside it, a Dedicated Essay Grader, "a licensed attorney who grades your essays", gives personalized feedback on "structure, legal knowledge, and factual analysis", and the course page stresses that every essay goes to "the same dedicated attorney essay grader throughout the course". The homepage lists "Eight graded essays with customized feedback".
Progress tracking runs through Performance Analytics, which lets you "gauge how you stack up to other students by question, subject matter, and overall performance", and the myProgress tracker, which shows completed and remaining assignments against your goals and your peers.
How you study
There are two modes. Directed Study gives "a structured and sequential set of daily tasks, to be completed in order", and "If you miss a day (or a week), our dynamic calendar will re-orient your schedule to get you back on track." Flex Study "allows you to skip around however you’d like", and you can switch between them whenever you want.
On timing, the FAQ says the recommended Directed Study schedule "begins 8-10 weeks before the date of the bar exam", while "course access generally begins in early March for the July exam, and in early November for the February exam" for anyone who wants an early start. Everything is available on the web and, through a free mobile upgrade, on iPad, iPhone and Android devices, including lectures, assessment questions and outlines.
Support
Themis builds its offer around people as much as content. The homepage describes a "Personal Success Team" made up of "a local Themis Director, Attorney Adviser, and a Dedicated Essay Grader". The FAQ adds that the Attorney Adviser sends a weekly broadcast message with test-taking tips and solutions to common essay errors, that State Directors contact students "by phone and email to make sure that you are on track", and that Themis provides "24/7 support during your bar review". Another page puts it as "There are no limits on the check-ins and personal coaching you will receive." Phone lines are open Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm Central.
The NextGen bar exam
The site has a detailed guide to the NextGen UBE, which debuts in July 2026: 9 hours of testing over 1.5 days, standalone multiple-choice questions, integrated question sets and performance tasks, scored on a 500 to 750 scale. For its own course, Themis says it has built QSets "to meticulously replicate the new, integrated question format", short strategy guides for the foundational skills, new foundational skills workshops, and a "specialized focus on performance task skills".
Price, discounts and the pass guarantee
The list price is stated plainly: $2,995 for the bar review course. At the same time, the site runs offers on future exams. One banner reads "Save $900 on 2027 Themis courses with just $25 down!", and another lets you lock in a 2027 or 2028 Themis Bar Review "for $1,776 when you pay in full" before July 7, 2026. The enrollment form offers paying in full or paying partially, and law firms can be billed directly through a firm billing request.
The FAQ lists discounts: $100 off for members of Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity or the Military Spouse J.D. Network, and $100 off for active, reserve and retired military, with "Only one discount may be applied to each course enrollment." Graduates going into public interest work can apply for reduced public interest tuition, available to the current graduating class. If you already paid a deposit to another full-service bar review provider, Themis will "credit your Themis tuition for the amount of your deposit up to $250."
The guarantee is a free repeat rather than a refund. Under the "Pass or a Free Repeat Guarantee", "if you are a first-time Themis taker, we will provide you with a free repeat of our course for the next administration of the same bar exam at no cost to you."
On results, Themis says it "is the only national bar review course that publishes its pass rates" in every state where it offers a course, and links to a pass rates page.
Beyond the bar course
Law students can start early with free programs. Law School Essentials offers free outlines and review lectures for 1L subjects (Civil Procedure, Constitutional Law, Contracts, Criminal Law, Property, Torts) and 2L/3L subjects (Constitutional Law, Corporations, Criminal Procedure, Evidence, Wills & Trusts). MPRE Review includes a searchable outline, diagnostic questions, practice exams and a simulated MPRE with performance analytics. There is also an LLM Advantage course for international lawyers, faculty resources for law schools, and an ADA accommodation request process.
Who it suits
Themis suits law graduates who want a complete online bar course with a daily plan that adjusts when life gets in the way, plenty of licensed MBE practice, and essay feedback from a real attorney as well as an AI grader. Students who like being checked on will value the Personal Success Team, and those sitting the NextGen exam will find dedicated material for the new question types. The free law school and MPRE programs let students try the method before committing.
It does not fit candidates sitting the Louisiana or Mississippi bar, and students who want an in-person classroom will not find one, since the course is online only.
