オンスク.JP (Onsuku.JP) is a Japanese online study service for people preparing for certification exams on their own. It calls itself "webの資格学習オンライン通信講座" (a web-based certification study course) and sells two services: ウケホーダイ (Ukehodai), a subscription that opens 70+ courses for a monthly fee, and TEPPAN, exam-focused courses that combine a textbook with the web course. Everything runs on a phone or a PC. The service is operated by 株式会社オンラインスクール (ONLINE SCHOOL Co., Ltd.), whose copyright line runs from 2015, and the site and courses are in Japanese. The learner is an adult in Japan who wants a national or industry qualification, or simply to learn something new, in short sessions around work or childcare.
The problem it sets out to solve
The About page opens with three complaints of self-study: not knowing how to study, finding it hard to keep going, and wanting to keep costs down ("勉強の仕方がわからない", "継続するのが苦手", "コストを抑えたい"). Each feature on the site answers one of them. Short lessons and one-question drills fit into spare minutes on the train, before bed or in a café. A study plan built back from the exam date, a daily log and a progress view keep a learner on track. And the company says it keeps prices low by producing content in-house and running no classrooms, delivering everything over the web.
Two services for two goals
The site asks first whether you want to pass a qualification, in its words "「資格取得をしたい」のか" (do you want to get a qualification), or "「何か学びたい・成長したい」のか" (do you want to learn something and grow), and points each answer at a different service.
TEPPAN is labeled "最短で合格を目指すなら" (if you aim to pass in the shortest time). Its courses are "書籍+webでトータル学習", a textbook plus the web course, with a note that some courses have no book. It focuses on one course at a time, with frequently tested questions and explanations of past exam questions. Past exam papers are a TEPPAN-only feature.
Ukehodai is labeled "気軽に学びたい方" (for those who want to learn casually): a low-priced subscription covering 70+ courses, where combining several courses improves the value for money.
What the courses cover
The Ukehodai catalog is broad. In accounting and marketing it offers 日商簿記3級 (Nissho Bookkeeping Grade 3) with a separate journal-entry drill course, 販売士3級 (Retail Sales Grade 3), reading financial statements and an introduction to business management theory for the SME consultant exam. Finance courses include FP Grade 3 and Grade 2 (financial planner), the Class 2 securities sales representative exam and a basics-of-tax course. Law covers ビジネス実務法務検定 (Business Law) Grades 3 and 2, Intellectual Property Management Grade 3 and 行政書士 (Administrative Scrivener), including a written-answer course and four courses taught by an AI instructor on constitutional, civil, administrative and commercial law. Real estate and facilities courses cover 宅建 (the real estate transaction specialist exam), hazardous materials Class Otsu 4, the Class 1 and Class 2 electrician exams (第一種・第二種電気工事士), the two stages of the interior coordinator exam and an introduction to the national drone license. There are also the registered seller exam for pharmaceuticals (登録販売者), the labor and social security attorney exam (社会保険労務士), the health supervisor exam, freight operations manager, color certification Grades 2 and 3, kimono culture, IT Passport, information security management, HTML and CSS, JavaScript, networking, generative AI and cybersecurity basics, secretary and service etiquette certifications, business statistics, spreadsheets and Excel, both parts of the weather forecaster exam, domestic travel service manager, World Heritage Grade 3, business English, Chinese and HSK Grades 2 to 4, and math certification Grade 3. A lifestyle shelf adds courses on penmanship, photography, home cooking certification, wine, sake, fermentation, aromatherapy, office makeup and health for desk workers.
How studying works
Lectures. Lecture videos start at 5 minutes each, explained with diagrams and illustrations so technical terms feel approachable. Double-speed playback, bookmarks and a keyword search help a learner move quickly through the input stage.
Drills. Practice questions use a one-question, one-answer format, so a learner can check understanding straight after each lecture. A learner can redo only the questions they got wrong, and a 実力テスト (skills test) draws questions at random. Correct-answer rates are shown so progress is visible.
Planning and records. Set the exam date and the service lays out a daily study plan. A daily study log, notes and a progress rate show at a glance how far a learner has come.
Offline study. Audio and slide data can be used offline, and the Standard plan includes downloadable materials for studying in spare moments.
Community. みんなの学習相談 is a study consultation board where members ask other learners for advice, alongside articles on solving common self-study problems, a free video series and a study magazine. The feature page lists interviews with members who passed using オンスク and stories of parents who passed while working and raising children.
Prices and trial
There is no joining fee ("初期費用・入会金は 0円"), and any plan gives unlimited access to its courses. Monthly plans can be canceled at any time and are paid by credit card or PayPay:
- Light plan: 980 yen a month (1,078 yen including tax). Lectures give an overview of the exam syllabus; the focus is input, and practice questions are limited to basic functions.
- Standard plan: 1,480 yen a month (1,628 yen including tax). Adds review features such as redoing wrong answers, a focus on output for exam preparation, and downloadable materials.
Lump-sum Standard packages cost 8,610 yen for 6 months (9,471 yen with tax, 3% off), 12,790 yen for 9 months (14,069 yen with tax, 4% off) and 16,870 yen for 12 months (18,557 yen with tax, 5% off, which the site labels "最もお得" (best deal), saving about 979 yen a year). These can also be paid at a convenience store.
The free trial is the strongest selling point: registration opens free trials of both TEPPAN and Ukehodai, the free period has no time limit ("無料期間は無制限"), and it never converts to a paid plan automatically. Registration takes three steps through an email link. A separate service exists for corporate customers (法人のお客様), and an AI chat on the home page answers questions about plans and the app.
Who it suits and who it does not
オンスク.JP suits a Japanese-speaking adult studying alone for a mainstream qualification such as bookkeeping, FP, 宅建, IT Passport or the business law exam, who wants short lessons on a phone and a very low monthly cost. Because Ukehodai covers everything for one price, a learner who wants to try several subjects, or add a hobby course alongside a certification, gets the most from it. The open-ended free trial makes it easy to test before paying. A learner who wants past exam papers and a textbook for one specific exam should look at TEPPAN rather than the subscription.
It does not suit anyone who does not read Japanese, or a learner who needs a live teacher, since the service is built entirely on recorded lectures and self-checking drills with peer advice rather than tutoring.
