What LearnPython.com Is

LearnPython.com is an interactive course catalog for learning Python in the browser, run by Vertabelo SA, the company named in its copyright line. The home page describes "the most comprehensive set of 13 hands-on online Python courses for teams and individuals" and invites visitors to "Join 100 000+ happy students." It is a learner product: there are no videos to sit through and nothing to install, and every lesson ends in code the learner writes. The courses, the site says, "are designed by IT experts and university lecturers," and they run from first steps in programming to data analysis with pandas and file processing.

The catalog is organized around what the home page calls "Three different Python career choices": Python Programming, Data Science, and Data Processing.

How the Courses Work

The method is the same in every course. The Learn Programming with Python track puts it this way: "Each exercise has a little bit of reading, a working code example, and a problem for you to solve by writing your own piece of code. Some exercises ask you to mimic the given example closely, while others require you to write a program from scratch." By the end of each course, the page promises, "you'll have written dozens of little programs."

The site calls it a "100% web-based experience" and says enrolling needs only "a contemporary web browser and a positive attitude." The track page lists the requirements as a web browser and an internet connection. The data science course makes the same point with "No additional software or talking-head tutorials." Exercises are built on real-life and business scenarios, and when a learner gets stuck there are exercise hints and a Discuss tab for questions to other members of the community.

Each course also comes with what the track page calls "access to our resource base, support from a mentor and from a community of students, and technical support." Learners who need help can write to contact@learnpython.com.

Certificates

The home page says: "After successfully completing each course, you will receive a certificate that you can publish on your LinkedIn profile." The track page repeats this under "Online certification." These are completion certificates from LearnPython.com; the pages do not describe them as accredited or as academic credit.

Tracks

Tracks bundle several courses into a path.

Learn Programming with Python is the flagship beginner track. It "is designed for complete beginners who want to learn how to write computer programs. We assume that you don't know programming at all and have no IT experience." It teaches Python 3: how a program is structured, if statements, for and while loops, common built-in functions, writing your own functions, reading and saving files, and the core data structures (lists, dictionaries, sets and tuples). The page lists an estimated 38 h, 28969 users enrolled and 135 free interactive coding challenges, and describes it as "A well-defined learning track with 5 fully interactive courses": Python Basics Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3, Python Data Structures in Practice (where learners "write a real Python game"), and Built-in Algorithms in Python. The track is pitched at complete beginners, students and aspiring programmers, and hobbyists.

Python Basics is a mini track for anyone who wants "to see if programming is for you." Python for Data Science is a mini track for those starting to analyze data in Python. Data Processing with Python, marked Advanced, teaches working with "the most common file formats such as CSV, JSON, and others."

Individual Courses

The Course Explorer lists the single courses alongside the tracks, filtered by level (Basic, Advanced) and by goals such as Learn Python or Practice Python. Among them are Python Basics Part 1 to 3, Python Basics Practice, Python Practice: Word Games, Working with Strings in Python, How to Read and Write JSON Files in Python (35 exercises), How to Read and Write CSV Files in Python, How to Read and Write Excel Files in Python (using openpyxl), Working with Files and Directories in Python, Built-in Algorithms in Python, Python Data Structures in Practice, and Introduction to Python for Data Science. Python Basics Part 1 is the most reviewed, with 52 ratings shown.

Introduction to Python for Data Science shows the depth of a single course. Its page lists 141 interactive exercises, an estimated 12 h and 2804 users enrolled, and needs no programming or data science background. It moves through six parts: Python basics, data frames in pandas, data analysis and grouping (describe, mean, median, quantile, grouping rows), data preprocessing (missing values, duplicates, outliers, merging datasets), data visualization with matplotlib (line plots, histograms, scatter and bar plots), and a final challenge built on an Airbnb dataset. The page names the audience as people who present data, data and business analysts, beginner data scientists and students in data analysis classes.

Alongside the courses, a free Python Library collects tutorials and articles, such as how to define a function or write a for loop in Python.

Pricing

The pricing page lists two paid options, with all prices in USD:

  • Individual: $29, "Lifetime access to a single course." Track pages carry their own price for the whole track; Learn Programming with Python is $145, "limited to this track only."
  • All Forever: $99, shown against a crossed-out $349 with "72% off," for "Lifetime access to all 13 present and future courses," described as the "Best value for money option."

Both are one-time payments. The FAQ says: "No, there is no contract. Depending on the plan, you will pay a one-time fee and get lifetime access to individual courses in the case of the Single Course plan, or our entire curriculum if you decide to purchase the All Forever plan." Learners can upgrade at any time and close their account from their profile.

There is also a Free plan. The FAQ says it "will give you access to the free section of all courses," and that registering for it asks only for a name and email address, with no credit card. The listed prices are final for customers outside the European Union; EU customers "will be charged VAT at the country rate based on customer's location." The FAQ names Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Diner's Club and JCB as accepted cards.

For Business and For Students offers are handled by email. The business offer covers "Custom Python Courses, Assignments, User Progress Tracking and much more," and the student offer targets students and lecturers in the education sector.

Affiliate Program

LearnPython.com runs a free affiliate program: "You get 30% of every sale attributed to your account," with a 45 days attribution window from a user's first visit, ready-made logos, graphics, videos and links, a personal dashboard, and weekly payouts "straight to your PayPal account."

What Learners Say

The home page quotes three learners by name. Mick Pagel, a supply chain analyst, writes: "Vertabelo is really easy to use, the learning is well-paced, and the interactive platform is exceptional." Daniel Debny says: "I am astonished at how well designed the exercises are." Sheila Dickson mentions "Lots of practice and encouragement as well as help if you need it. Just look at the class chat area."

Who It Suits

LearnPython.com suits a complete beginner who wants to start Python without setting anything up, and who learns best by writing code: the free plan opens the free section of every course before any payment. It suits analysts and students who want pandas and matplotlib for real data work through the data science course, and people who need to process CSV, JSON or Excel files. A learner who plans to take several courses gets the most from the one-time All Forever plan, and a company that wants custom courses, assignments and progress tracking can write to the business team.

It suits learners who want video lectures or live classes less well, since the format is reading plus coding exercises. Experienced developers will find the catalog weighted toward basics, data work and file processing rather than frameworks.
