HCL GUVI

Tap a star to rate

HCL GUVI is an Indian online learning platform for coding, data science and AI, built around teaching technology in learners' own languages. The name stands for "Grab Your Vernacular Imprint," and the site's footer gives the background: the company was incubated by IIT Madras and IIM Ahmedabad, established in 2014, and "acquired by the HCL Group in 2022." It serves three groups: students and career changers who want a job in tech, working professionals adding skills, and companies hiring or training staff. The site claims "3M+ learners" in its welcome tour, and the footer says it is "trusted by over 4.8 million users, 20 languages and 2500+ corporate partners."

Live programs (Zen Classes)

The flagship product is Zen Class, which the site calls "HCL GUVI's most refined and flagship product": live, expert-led tech programs for beginners and pros. These are structured, mentor-led programs sold as "Live Classes + Placement Guidance," with the company saying they promise placement guidance on completion. Current programs and the credentials they carry, as the site labels them:

  • Full Stack Development, "IIT-M Pravartak certified," taught in Tamil, English, Hindi and Telugu.
  • Data Science, "IIT-M Pravartak certified," in Tamil, English and Hindi.
  • AI and Machine Learning, "Intel & IIT-M Pravartak certified."
  • GEN AI Software Development Program, certified by MongoDB and IITM Pravartak.
  • VLSI Design Programme, "IIT Delhi certified."
  • UI/UX Design and an AI DevOps Program, both "HCL GUVI certified."
  • Business and Marketing Analytics with AI Tools, and a DevOps course in Tamil and English.

The home page also promotes an AI and Product Management program offering IIM Indore executive alumni status with a campus immersion. Program prices are not printed on these pages; a visitor downloads a syllabus or requests a callback, and the team says it will respond "within the next 24 hours." Learner testimonials describe mentors explaining concepts in Tamil, mock interviews and job-specific preparation sessions.

Self-paced courses and prices

For flexible study, HCL GUVI sells self-paced video courses, filterable by topic, language, rating, price, duration and course type. The welcome tour counts "200+ self-paced courses," while the home page says to "Choose from 1300 + exclusive courses with new courses being published every month," so the total depends on which page you read. Unlike the live programs, these carry prices in rupees on the course page. Examples:

  • Python Programming Zero to Hero: Complete Python Bootcamp, 23 hours, ₹1,499 (344.8k+ enrolled).
  • HTML & CSS, 17 hours, ₹1,999; React.js, 6 hours, ₹3,499; TypeScript, 4 hours, ₹1,499.
  • Django Framework Basic to Advanced, Core Spring Fundamentals and Next.js, each ₹2,499.
  • Mastering MySQL, 10 hours, ₹1,999; Microsoft Power BI Course, 8 hours, ₹999.
  • Generative AI Course: Build AI Apps with LLMs, 7 hours, ₹499; Prompt Engineering Certification Course with LLM, 6 hours, ₹799.

Career-path bundles group courses, such as the Full Stack Web Development Course Bundle (61 total hours) and the Complete AI & Machine Learning Bootcamp with Python (73 total hours).

Many courses are also free to study. The Python Programming Course in Tamil (16 hours, 256.0k+ enrolled), Data Science & Analytics Certification Course (4 hours), Blockchain Certification Course and a 26-hour Digital Marketing Masterclass are free to study, with "Pay for Certification!" if the learner wants the certificate. A few free courses, such as ChatGPT for Everyone and Build & Deploy AI Apps with Google AI Studio, include a free certificate.

Practice platforms

HCL GUVI's practice tools are a large part of its coding offer and are free to try:

  • CodeKata, "A structured coding practice platform with 1500+ coding problems designed by industry experts," aimed at interview preparation.
  • WebKata, for practicing HTML, CSS, JavaScript and Bootstrap in a live coding environment with no setup.
  • SQLKata, for writing and optimizing SQL queries on relational databases.
  • FixTheCode, debugging challenges in Python, C++, JavaScript and Golang; the site says performance there influences job recommendations.
  • IDE, "A free online compiler supporting 20+ programming languages with auto-complete, debugging, and AI-powered code generation," running in the cloud.

Practice earns Geekoins, which put learners on a leaderboard and, per the FAQ, can be spent on courses, on "run counts" in the practice tools, and on reward coupons. A referral program offers rewards such as Amazon vouchers and iPhones. Each learner's profile works as a portfolio for progress, skills, projects and a resume, and a free resume builder includes an ATS score checker. A forum promises answers from tech experts within 48 hours.

Certificates, assessment and refunds

The FAQ explains certification for self-paced courses: a learner must complete all quizzes and submissions with 100% progression, then a "Get Certified" option appears and the certificate downloads as a PDF. Quizzes can be attempted an unlimited number of times. The partner labels (IIT-M Pravartak, Intel, MongoDB, IIT Delhi, Autodesk) apply to specific programs and courses; other courses carry an HCL GUVI certificate.

A free skill assessment of 15 questions in 15 minutes covers tracks such as software development engineering, Intel AI and ML, data science and DevOps, and finishing it earns a ₹7500 discount on the company's upskilling programs. On refunds, the FAQ says requests go through the support email or a course coordinator and "Refunds are processed within 7 working days from the date you fill out the refund form."

Free resources, kids and companies

Free resources include webinars, 5-day email courses (full stack, AI and ML, data science, UI/UX, digital marketing), eBooks on Python, JavaScript, React, MongoDB and data science, and a weekly newsletter. HackerKID is a separate coding classes platform for K-12 children. HCL GUVI for Corporates offers specialized corporate training, corporate and campus hiring, a HYRE assessment and CSR programs. The GUVI Super App lists 500K+ downloads with a 4.5 rating. The home page also lists awards, including recognition from Entrepreneur India for personalized online learning programs and from UBS Forums as "Best GenAI Training Partner" and "Best Partner - New Hire Training," along with a record for the most users taking an online programming lesson in 24 hours.

Who it suits

HCL GUVI suits Indian learners who want to study coding, data or AI in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu or another regional language, and career changers who want a live program with placement guidance. Self-learners on a budget can start with free courses, CodeKata and the online IDE, then buy individual courses for a few hundred to a few thousand rupees. Companies hiring freshers can use the corporate assessment and training services.

Anyone comparing the live programs will need to request a callback, since their prices are not listed on these pages.
