UniversalClass
Tap a star to rate
UniversalClass is a subscription library of self-paced online courses for adult learners, covering workplace skills, health, personal development and hobbies, and a good deal of alternative and spiritual subjects. The homepage says that "Since 1999, Universal Class has been a leader in digital learning, offering 1,000+ professional development courses that make high-quality, affordable education accessible to all." It claims "1,000,000+ Students" and "10,000,000+ Lessons Delivered". The model is simple: buy a Personal Plan and get "unlimited access to 1,000+ courses across 30+ categories", or pay for a gift subscription or a group package.
What the catalog covers
The subject list on the homepage is long and mixed. It includes psychology, nutrition, business, test preparation, self-help, financial skills, safety, writing improvement, healing, gardening, spiritual studies, health and medicine, medical skills, Microsoft Office courses, marketing, homeschooling, parenting skills, alternative medicine, computer courses, paranormal studies, technology skills, ESL courses, foundational math skills, accounting and bookkeeping, entrepreneurship, secretarial skills, grammar help, Reiki studies, teacher resources, event management, art and design, home decorating, small business, science, human resources, special education, learning disabilities, social science, management, language arts, and law, legal and criminal studies.
The trending list shows the practical side: Microsoft Excel Level 1 (14 lessons), Basic Writing Skills Level 1 (12 lessons), QuickBooks 101 (25 lessons), Accounting & Bookkeeping 101 for Everyone (24 lessons), Anatomy and Physiology 101 (17 lessons), Writing Basics 101: Spelling, Grammar, Punctuation, Writing Structures (20 lessons), Medical Terminology 101 (16 lessons) and Proofreading and Copyediting 101 (14 lessons). The featured courses add Assertiveness Training, Beyond Words: The Silent Language of Relationships, Building Patience and Tolerance, Cooking and Nutrition for a Healthy Life, Effective Time Management for Professionals, Financial Literacy for Adults, Healthy Relationships, a fashion history course called Iconic Inspirations: Modern Fashion's Heritage and Future, and Leadership Skills for Managers.
The spiritual studies page shows how far the catalog reaches beyond office skills. It lists Tarot Cards Level 1, Astrology 101, Numerology 101, Auras: Viewing, Identifying, and Understanding, Angel Healing, Angels 101, Crystal Therapy, Energy Healing, Homeopathy 101, Aromatherapy 101 and an advanced aromatherapy course, Buddhism 101, Meditation Mastery, The Art of Breathing, Cryptozoology 101, Haunted Places, three paranormal investigation courses, Spiritual Counseling, Life Coaching Level 1, Coaching Techniques, and a Become a Life Coach course bundle that runs to 67 lessons. Related pages cover paranormal studies, Reiki, aromatherapy, life coaching and meditation.
A reader should weigh this mix. The same library that teaches QuickBooks and medical terminology also sells courses on angels and haunted places, and the course cards describe both in the same upbeat marketing language.
Course format and CEUs
Courses are self-paced and built from lessons, from 6 to 25 per course on the listings shown, apart from the 67-lesson coaching bundle. The homepage says the courses offer "an immersive learning experience with interactive lessons, assignments, and assessments," with "learning activities to help you apply what you have learned in different scenarios" and "on-demand resources" from any device. The Assertiveness Training card mentions self-reflective exercises, and the membership section says the courses are selected by experts and draw on insights from industry leaders. The course cards say who each course is written for: Anatomy and Physiology 101 is pitched at "aspiring healthcare professionals, curious minds, or anyone eager to enhance their understanding of the human body," Medical Terminology 101 at people starting or polishing a medical career, and the accounting course at entrepreneurs and professionals. The course cards do not name the instructor or author of each course.
Each featured course carries a CEU value on its card. Examples from the homepage:
- Accounting & Bookkeeping 101 for Everyone: 0.5 CEUs, 24 lessons
- Anatomy and Physiology 101: 2.2 CEUs, 17 lessons
- Assertiveness Training: 0.8 CEUs, 11 lessons
- Beyond Words: 0.4 CEUs, 15 lessons
- Financial Literacy for Adults: 0.3 CEUs, 15 lessons
- Effective Time Management for Professionals and Leadership Skills for Managers: 0.7 CEUs, 15 lessons each
- Medical Terminology 101: 1.8 CEUs, 16 lessons
- Writing Basics 101: 2.9 CEUs, 20 lessons
On the spiritual studies page, Paranormal Investigations: Complete Edition shows 1.2 CEUs over 19 lessons, Spiritual Counseling 0.8 CEUs over 11 lessons, and Tarot Cards Level 1 0.5 CEUs over 9 lessons. The pages state CEU values but name no accrediting or approving body behind them, so a learner who needs credits for a license or an employer should check whether that body accepts UniversalClass CEUs before enrolling.
Certificates
Under "Boost Credentials" the homepage says learners "Earn a completion certificate," and the membership section promises that you can "Earn professional certifications to boost your career." The footer links to a Certificate Verification page, so a certificate can be checked by a third party. What the learner receives, on the site's own description, is a certificate of completion.
Plans and pricing
The homepage says "Choose from our 3 plans. Starting at $16/month, billed annually." The lowest price is therefore an annual commitment; the page does not show the other two plans or their prices. Every Personal Plan gives unlimited access to the whole catalog, so a learner can move between Excel, nutrition and life coaching without paying per course.
There are two other ways to buy. Gift of Learning lets you buy a subscription for someone else: "Choose the perfect gift subscription and give them access to valuable skills, career-boosting courses, and lifelong knowledge." Group Packages are aimed at teams, with "an integrative group enrollment system" and the option to "Purchase licenses in bulk with Group Discounts." The site shows no group prices. A Contact Us page sits in the footer.
Who it suits
UniversalClass suits an adult learner who wants a broad, inexpensive library of short self-paced courses and likes to sample widely: someone brushing up on Excel, QuickBooks, grammar or medical terminology, a homeschooling parent looking for structured lessons, or a person curious about meditation, aromatherapy or life coaching. The entry plan is $16 a month billed annually, and it covers the whole catalog. Small teams can use group licenses, and the gift subscription works for someone who would enjoy the range.
It suits less a professional who needs credits with a named approving body, since the pages list CEU values without one, or anyone who wants live teaching, cohorts or instructor contact, none of which the pages describe. Learners who want month-to-month billing should note that the advertised starting price is billed annually, and buyers looking only for evidence-based content should be aware that alternative medicine and paranormal subjects sit in the same catalog.
