What Escola Virtual is

Escola Virtual is the free online school of Fundação Bradesco, a Brazilian charitable foundation. The FAQ describes it as "um portal de e-learning dedicado a oferecer cursos livres a distância, totalmente gratuitos, via Internet" (an e-learning portal offering free short distance courses over the internet) and says it "iniciou suas atividades em 2001". The terms of use name the operator as Fundação Bradesco, a social assistance charity headquartered in Osasco, São Paulo, and say the aim is a free environment for continuing education and professional qualification for young people and adults.

The reader is an individual learner in Brazil who wants practical skills for work: office tools, data, programming, AI, customer service, personal finance and soft skills. The money question is answered in one line of the FAQ: "Você não paga nada nem para fazer o curso, nem para emitir o certificado" (you pay nothing to take the course or to issue the certificate). The home page adds that there are "mais de 90 cursos" (more than 90 courses) to study, and its counter showed 3748 learners studying at that moment.

The catalog

The home page groups courses into areas of interest: data analysis, personal and professional development, education and technology, artificial intelligence, business and innovation, productivity, programming and information technology. The FAQ says course workloads currently run "entre uma e 40 horas" (between 1 and 40 hours).

The most accessed courses give a fair picture of the level. "IA para seu novo emprego: Do currículo à entrevista" is a 2-hour beginner course on using AI to write a résumé, improve a LinkedIn profile, find openings and practice for interviews. "FluêncIA em Inteligência Artificial" is a 4-hour introduction to generative AI, which the page says was developed in partnership with Microsoft, with videos recorded by the company's specialists in Brazil; two newer modules cover writing prompts with Copilot and building agents with Copilot Studio for M365. Atendimento ao Público is a 10-hour customer service course in four modules, with follow-up questions and practice activities. Educação Financeira teaches budgeting, spending habits and the basics of investing through a five-step loop of Start, Bússola, Desafio, Missão and Quiz. Cultura Digital (6 hours) covers social networks and the Microsoft Office suite, and Excel na Prática (16 hours) mixes guided screen demonstrations, videos and practical exercises.

The programming area is small. It holds two courses: "Crie um site simples usando HTML, CSS e JavaScript" (2 hours) and "Linguagem de Programação Python - Básico" (18 hours), which starts with logical reasoning, then walks through downloading and configuring the PyCharm development environment before writing basic console programs. The site menu also lists a computing course for people with visual impairments.

Knowledge trails

Trilhas de Conhecimento are sets of related courses. The FAQ says that when you choose a trail you are enrolled in its courses, the system recognizes any you have already completed, and once you pass all of them you can print each course certificate and a certificate for the trail as a whole. The home page shows three examples: Aprimoramento Profissional (5 courses, 48 hours) on professional conduct, image and dealing with the public; Excel 2016 do básico ao avançado (3 courses, 65 hours) covering the basic, intermediate and advanced courses; and Inteligência Artificial para Organizações do Terceiro Setor (4 courses) on ethics, communication and data for nonprofits.

Partnerships

The partner pages show courses built with outside organizations. The Programa Semente page says the partnership between Fundação Bradesco and Semente Educação has run "Desde 2017" to improve socioemotional learning among students, teachers and other education professionals, and moved into distance learning in 2020. Its courses on Escola Virtual cover regulating worry and anxiety, impulse control and managing anger, shame and envy, resilience, and responsible decision-making.

How studying works

Learners register with a CPF (the Brazilian taxpayer number) and an e-mail address, or log in through Google, Facebook or LinkedIn. The minimum age is 14. The FAQ says registration for foreigners without a CPF is being studied. Courses are self-paced and run on the website only: the FAQ says "A Escola Virtual ainda não possui APP" (Escola Virtual does not yet have an app), and the Fundação Bradesco app is for its basic education students.

Each enrollment has a deadline. "Todos os cursos possuem um prazo para finalização que é de 60 dias" (every course must be finished within 60 days of enrolling), and a learner who misses it is failed automatically. The FAQ allows several courses at once but recommends one at a time because of that deadline. There is no tutor: "Não! Os cursos não têm tutoria!" The final assessment opens only after every module is finished and every page has been visited, it is marked automatically, and a learner who fails gets a second attempt. After that, they can enroll again and redo the course.

Certificates

A learner who scores at least 70% on the final assessment passes and prints a Certificado de Conclusão. Courses without a final assessment issue a Certificado de Participação. Certificates carry an authentication code of 32 alphanumeric characters, introduced in February 2010, and certificates issued from November 2018 also carry a QR code. Anyone can check a code on the validation page linked in the site footer. Trail certificates do not yet carry a code, so the FAQ recommends printing the individual course certificates too.

Two limits are stated plainly. On validity: "Os certificados terão validade de 2 (anos), em razão da atualização constante dos conteúdos técnicos do curso" (certificates are valid for 2 years because the technical content is updated constantly), and printing and keeping them is the learner's job. On recognition: "O certificado não é reconhecido pelo MEC", the Ministry of Education, which certifies only schools, technical schools and universities. The terms of use class the courses as Formação Inicial e Continuada, non-formal "cursos livres" that need no authorization from education authorities. The FAQ does say a finished course can go on a résumé, written as the course name followed by "Fundação Bradesco | Escola Virtual".

Support

Support runs through a chatbot under Ajuda, available Monday to Friday from 8:00 to 17:00 Brasília time, plus a contact form. The terms list the technical requirements as Windows 7 or later, an internet connection, a valid e-mail account and pop-up blockers turned off.

Who it suits and who it does not

Escola Virtual suits Brazilians over 14 who want short, free, well-structured courses in office tools, AI, customer service, personal finance, programming basics or soft skills, with a printable certificate at no cost. The trails help someone who wants a longer sequence, such as Excel from basic to advanced. Nonprofit staff and educators will find content written for them.

It does not suit learners who need a formal qualification: the certificate is not MEC-recognized and is valid for 2 years. Anyone who wants a tutor, a mobile app or unlimited time on a course will be disappointed, given the 60-day deadline. Registration needs a CPF, and the whole site is in Portuguese. Companies looking to manage employee training will find no business accounts on these pages.
