What Edune Cursos is

Edune Cursos is a Brazilian catalog of free online courses in Portuguese. Its home page sells one simple idea: "Cursos livres Gratuitos e com opção de Certificado" (free short courses with the option of a certificate). A learner picks a course, registers and starts studying at once, and the page says you can enroll in as many courses as you like "sem qualquer custo" (at no cost at all). The only charge on the core product is for the certificate, which is optional and comes after the course.

The reader here is a learner, not a creator or a training team. The home page names the uses it has in mind: "aprimoramento profissional, horas complementares, enriquecimento de currículo e concursos públicos", meaning professional development, the complementary hours many Brazilian degree programs require, padding out a résumé, and preparing for civil service exams. The counters on the home page read +1.5M registered students, +2M enrollments, +227MIL (227,000) certificates issued and +301 students online at that moment. The page says in one place that it has "mais de 920 cursos" (more than 920 courses) and in another "mais de 200 cursos categorizados"; the larger figure is the one next to the full course list.

The catalog

The course list on the home page is long and very Brazilian in its focus. It is organized into segments: administration, agriculture, arts, social work, biology, civil service exams, accounting and finance, law, education, aesthetics and beauty, languages, industry and technology, computing, logistics, marketing and sales, environment, fashion, nutrition and gastronomy, professions, psychology, health and wellbeing, workplace safety (the NR regulations), and an "other courses" group. Learners can also browse by length, with groups for 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 and 80 hour courses.

The titles show the range. For teachers there are courses on ADHD in the classroom, phonological awareness, dyslexia, dysgraphia and dyscalculia, gamification in math and Portuguese lessons, individualized education plans and the national curriculum guidelines. Health workers will find a run of nursing courses (intensive care, oncology, pediatrics, psychiatry, cardiology and more), pre-hospital care and first aid. The law section covers consumer protection for suppliers, the law of digital platforms and influencers, civil procedure, tax enforcement and the new public procurement law. The workplace safety section lists named NR standards such as NR 09, NR 15, NR 22 and NR 23. There are trade courses (bricklaying, welding, pool maintenance, building concierge), office courses (payroll, accounts payable and receivable, Windows 11, Excel), and newer subjects such as prompt engineering, ChatGPT for beginners, ManyChat, growth marketing and data protection. Brazilian Sign Language (Libras) and Premiere Pro CC also appear.

A section of most accessed courses shows what draws the crowds: Balconista e Atendente de Farmácia (pharmacy counter assistant), Agente Comunitário de Saúde (community health agent), Marketing Digital, Informática Básica (basic computing), Design Gráfico, Departamento Pessoal (personnel department) and Excel Intermediário. Each card shows its hours, the number of reviews and the number of enrolled students, and opens a panel of learner comments. Those comments are frank. Several praise the instructors and the clear explanations; one learner says she is 73 and finding the course useful; others wish lessons were slower, want more solved exercises, or say the certificate should be free.

How studying works

The courses are self-paced. The page says the platform lets you study "onde e quando quiser, seja no computador, celular ou tablet" (wherever and whenever you want, on a computer, phone or tablet), and claims "Investimos pesado para sempre trazer a melhor experiência em EAD" (we invest heavily so students always get a first-rate distance learning experience). Comments from students describe video lessons alongside an apostila, a written handout, and one says she downloaded the PDF; another, on the Marketing Digital course, misses having a handout there, so the materials vary by course. A learner area holds the courses a student is taking, and the site also offers a vocational test ("Teste Vocacional") for someone who has not chosen a field yet.

Certificates and what they cost

After finishing a course the learner can choose to issue Edune's certificate. The page puts it plainly: "A emissão do certificado digital é opcional e fica condicionada ao pagamento da Taxa de Emissão de Certificado no valor de R$ 47,90" (issuing the digital certificate is optional and depends on paying the certificate issuance fee of R$ 47.90). A standing offer, "Solicite 3 certificados pague só 2", gives a third certificate free when a learner orders three. The site has a page for validating a certificate, a page presenting the certificate, and a student card ("Carteira de estudante").

The home page is careful about what the certificate is worth. It calls it a "certificado válido mediante taxa administrativa" (a valid certificate, on payment of an administrative fee) and then adds: "Antes de utilizar o certificado, verifique os critérios da instituição onde será apresentado para garantir sua aceitação" (before using the certificate, check the criteria of the institution where you will present it to make sure it is accepted). The menu carries pages titled "Reconhecimento MEC" and a question about the professional councils CRECI, CREA, CRC, CRM and CRO, the bodies that register realtors, engineers, accountants, doctors and dentists. These are free short courses (cursos livres), so a learner should read the certificate as proof of completion and check with the employer, university or council before relying on it.

Technical courses and other programs

Beyond the free catalog, the home page lists technical courses (cursos técnicos) "oferecidos em parceria com instituições" and "com valor diferenciados para alunos da Edune", meaning they are run with partner institutions at a special price for Edune students. The titles include technician programs in workplace safety, electrotechnics, administration, industrial mechanics, automation, buildings, electronics, logistics, accounting, nutrition and dietetics, school administration, environment, graphic computing, human resources, marketing, IT, sales, aesthetics, tourist guiding, computer networks and elderly care, plus internet computing, systems development and pharmacy. These are a separate, paid product, and the home page does not print their prices. The menu also points to extension courses (Cursos Extensão) and postgraduate programs (Pós-Graduação).

Who it suits and who it does not

Edune Cursos suits Portuguese-speaking learners in Brazil who want to try a subject for free, build up complementary hours, add lines to a résumé or prepare for a civil service exam. Teachers, nursing staff, office workers and people looking for a first job in a trade will find many short courses written for them, and they only pay if they want the certificate. The R$ 47,90 fee, and the three-for-two offer, keep that cost low.

It does not suit anyone outside Portuguese, since the whole catalog and site are in Portuguese. It is the wrong place for a learner who needs a formal qualification: the free courses are short courses with a completion certificate, and the site itself tells learners to check acceptance before using it. Someone after a recognized technical diploma should look at the partner technical courses and confirm the partner institution and price directly. It is also not a platform for creators or companies; the pages offer no tools for publishing courses or training a team.
