Cursos Online EDUCA is a Portuguese-language library of short online courses for adults who want to add a qualification to their CV. Its headline offer is "+ 350 Cursos Rápidos Gratuitos Online com opção de Certificado": more than 350 quick free online courses, with a certificate as an option. The site says it has been running since 2014, labels itself "Site Confiável" (a trustworthy site), and shows a live counter of learners online, 44 on one visit and 41 on another. Its tagline for the catalog is "Estude agora mesmo e qualifique-se para o Mercado de Trabalho": study right now and qualify yourself for the job market.
The model is clear from the homepage. Access to the 350+ courses, the study platform and support are all free. What costs money is the completion certificate, which is optional and carries what the site calls a small fee of R$ 59,90.
What the catalog covers
The courses sit in categories, each with its count on the homepage. Education and pedagogy is the largest with 88 courses, followed by a catch-all Outras Áreas (other areas) with 47, IT with 43, administration with 41, health and wellbeing with 37, law with 36 and communication and marketing with 34. Mid-sized shelves cover construction (26), gastronomy (17), languages (17), environment (16), human resources (16) and accounting and economics (15). The smallest are nutrition (10), dentistry (7), tourism and hospitality (7), veterinary (7), psychology (6) and music (5).
The featured courses show the style: short, practical, named after a job or a topic, and each with a stated workload in hours. On the two versions of the homepage they include:
- Administração Estratégica (strategic management), 60 hours, in administration
- Gestão de Cargos e Salários (job and salary management), 60 hours, and Departamento Pessoal (personnel department), 60 hours, in human resources
- Operador de Caixa (cashier), 35 hours, and Técnicas de Vendas (sales techniques), 35 hours, in communication and marketing
- Segurança do Trabalho Básico (basic workplace safety), 50 hours, in other areas
- NR9, Programa de Prevenção de Riscos (risk prevention program), 60 hours, in construction
- Marketing Social, 60 hours, in environment
- Barman (bartending), 50 hours, in gastronomy
- Introdução a Criminologia (introduction to criminology), 50 hours, and Fundamentos dos Contratos (contract fundamentals), 55 hours, in law
- Espanhol Intermediário (intermediate Spanish), 55 hours, in languages
- Obesidade Infantil (childhood obesity), 60 hours, in nutrition
- Hepatites Virais e HIV na Área Odontológica (viral hepatitis and HIV in dentistry), 60 hours, in dentistry
- Introdução à Filosofia Política (introduction to political philosophy), 45 hours, in education and pedagogy
- Photoshop CS5, 60 hours, in IT
The spread is wide. Alongside office and sales skills, the health side runs from nutrition and wellbeing to courses aimed at dental and veterinary settings, the construction and environment shelves carry workplace safety material, and the law shelf goes beyond basics into criminology and contracts.
Every featured course is marked "Acesso Gratuito", free access. The hour figures are the workload the course counts toward, which matters for the certificate uses described below.
How it works
A learner registers with "Cadastre-se", signs in with "Entrar", searches or browses the categories, and starts a course from its page. The site works through a student area, the "área do aluno", where the learner's courses and certificates sit. As a welcome, the student area holds 2 courses whose certificates are free, a courtesy the homepage advertises as "Ganhe 02 Certificados" (get 2 certificates).
The site also has a blog and a newsletter for news and exclusive information. Its footer gives the operator's company registration number (CNPJ 21.295.901/0001-28), an about page, terms of use, and a page about the certificate.
The certificate and what it is for
The certificate is a "certificado de conclusão", a certificate of completion. The site has a page showing a sample certificate and further details, and two verification tools: "Autenticar Certificado" to authenticate a certificate and "Autenticar Declaração" to authenticate a declaration. That lets an employer or a university check that a document is genuine.
The homepage lists what the certificate can be used for:
- university extension, such as complementary hours and extracurricular activities
- enriching a CV to improve the chances of getting a good job
- company assessments in recruitment and selection
- assessments for internal promotions
- additional bonuses under a company's career plan
The complementary-hours use is where the stated course hours count: a student who needs a set number of extracurricular hours for a degree program can pick a course by its workload.
The legal status of the courses
The site is direct about what the courses are and are not. Under the heading "Legalidade dos Cursos" it says it offers "CURSOS LIVRES", open courses regulated by Lei nº 9.394/96 and Decreto nº 5.154/2004. Because they are freely offered, they do not require accreditation by MEC, the education ministry, and they are meant for professional improvement, "não conferindo grau acadêmico ou técnico", not conferring an academic or technical degree.
That gives a learner a clear picture before paying for a certificate: it documents completed training hours for a CV, an employer or a university's complementary-hours requirement, and it is not a diploma.
Support
Support is free, like the courses. Messages go through a "Fale Conosco" contact form and by e-mail or phone, and the site says it answers in order of arrival, as soon as possible, within its service hours of Monday to Friday, 06h30 to 14h30, except holidays.
Who it suits
Cursos Online EDUCA suits Portuguese-speaking learners who want short, documented training at little or no cost: a university student who needs complementary hours, a job seeker who wants a cashier, sales or workplace safety course on a CV, an employee building a case for an internal promotion, or a teacher or education student browsing the large pedagogy shelf. Because the courses are free and only the certificate is paid, a learner can finish a course first and decide afterwards whether the R$ 59,90 certificate is worth it, and the 2 courtesy certificates let a new learner test the whole process at no cost.
It is a weaker fit for anyone who needs an accredited diploma or a technical qualification, which the site itself says these open courses do not confer, and for learners who want live classes. For quick, free courses with a cheap, verifiable record of hours, it does exactly what it says.
