What TestReach is

TestReach is a cloud-based assessment platform for organizations that run formal exams: awarding bodies, professional and membership associations, corporations, training companies and public bodies. The home page calls it "a cloud-based solution used to create, deliver and mark any type of assessment, from formative tests through to high-stake formal exams," and says it covers "the end-to-end examination process, including the option of live online proctoring within our application." The company behind it is TestReach Ltd.

It is not a course platform and not a quiz tool for a single teacher. TestReach names solutions for awarding bodies, membership associations, healthcare and medical, financial services, life sciences, technology, utilities and construction, manufacturing, government, higher education, recruitment and apprenticeships, and the home page frames the purpose as "transforming the running of certification programmes," reducing the administrative burden, improving the candidate experience and maximizing security. The customers quoted on the home page are mostly professional and examining bodies in medicine, insurance, pensions, nautical training and internal audit.

The home page makes a strong market claim in its own words: "TestReach is the only cloud-based online assessment tool that delivers comprehensive test authoring capabilities, with the option of remote proctoring by in-house trained proctors, all built into one application." That is the company's statement about itself.

Authoring and question banks

The online exams page describes authoring as "collaborative question authoring, item banking and different options for creating your exam paper." Question banks can be aligned to "pedagogical structures which pave the way for detailed reporting and analysis of exam question performance." The home page counts "Over 40+ Question Types," and the exams page describes the range as running "from variations on MCQ, text and spreadsheets, right through to multi-media options such as video and audio capture."

Alongside the questions, candidates can be given extra resources, which the page says makes "even complex online exams easy to follow and navigate," and tools such as calculators, notepads or case studies. The page gives two examples of why that matters for professional exams: using copy and paste in an essay-style answer, and using a spreadsheet for financial calculations. With the company's help you can build different variants of a proctored exam and set up and roll out practice tests.

Delivery options

TestReach offers several ways to deliver an exam, which can be used alone or in combination.

Remote invigilation is the high-security option. The exams page calls it "an integral option in the TestReach application," and explains that "our trained supervisors oversee the candidate while they are sitting their exam, using audio, video and remote screenshare connections." The proctors are TestReach's own: the page says they "are extensively trained and quality-monitored to ensure the highest standards, both in the quality of service extended to candidates and in maintaining the integrity of the exam delivery." The candidate takes the exam without traveling to a test center, and the examining body no longer manages test centers or circulates exam papers.

A "test only" exam runs on the TestReach application without online supervision. The page suggests it for exams held at a physical test center, for lower-stakes exams taken at home, for practice exams, and for tests that measure the effectiveness of training. The Nautical Institute case study on the home page describes delivering exams at test centers worldwide.

For "honour-based" online testing there are other security features: computer lockdown, which "prevents accessing other browser windows or applications while in the exam," and linear-on-the-fly papers, "where each candidate receives a unique exam paper but with the same number of questions on certain topic areas."

The home page says exams can run in any time zone and in any language, with candidates in 150+ countries.

Marking, results and integration

Most questions can be scored automatically, and results can be released "as soon as you wish after completion of the exam." The benefits section adds that even when an examining body holds results back, digital delivery "greatly reduces the time for candidates to receive the outcome." For essays and other constructed responses, TestReach "includes an extensive marking module which helps to streamline the management of marking of constructed-response question types." Reporting covers question performance, tied to the way the item bank is structured.

For integration, the home page says TestReach has an open API that plugs into an existing systems landscape: "Candidates are automatically enrolled in the correct exams and results data is pushed back into a system of record."

Security, compliance and accessibility

The home page states that the SaaS solution "is subject to ISO, SAS, SSAE and ISAE standards and data-protection laws," and that "Exams run are approved by many accrediting bodies." It names no specific accrediting body. Two customer quotes refer to Ofqual: the Pensions Management Institute case study describes "Delivering online exams with maximum security in line with Ofqual requirements," and the PMI testimonial says the platform "upholds exam integrity and security in full compliance with Ofqual guidelines." For accessibility, the home page cites its "WGAC 2.2 AA Accessibility features," which it says "ensure an equitable exam experience for all candidates, no matter what their needs."

Service and what customers say

TestReach sells a managed service as much as software. The exams page says the technology is "backed by experienced and helpful project management teams who can guide you through the change processes when you wish to move to online exams," and mentions a "five-star customer service team." Candidates get their own FAQ and support pages.

The testimonials on the home page are specific. Graham Kavanagh, Assessment/QA Manager at The Insurance Institute, says: "Our feedback surveys consistently show a 95% positive approval rating." Vanessa Jackson, Chief Learning Officer and Responsible Officer (Ofqual) at PMI, writes that exam days used to mean handling calls "from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m," and that the process now feels as though no assessments are underway. Brendan Cawley of the Pre-Hospital Emergency Care Council says "I would absolutely recommend TestReach to another awarding body," citing the delivery of their EMT and Paramedic assessments. Case studies also cover The Royal College of Physicians of Ireland (medical question bank management and remotely proctored delivery) and a chartered institute in internal audit (complex question banks and high-integrity exam delivery).

Pricing

The site publishes no prices. Every call to action is "Request a Demo," and the site has a sales enquiry FAQ for prospective customers.

Who it suits and who it does not

TestReach suits an awarding body, a professional association or a regulated employer moving certification exams online, especially one that wants remote proctoring by trained staff rather than software alone, question banks it can report on, and project management through the switch. The case studies show institutes in insurance, pensions, medicine, dentistry, emergency care and internal audit doing exactly that, and the API suits an organization that wants enrollment and results to flow through its own records system.

It is more than a teacher or a small business needs for an occasional quiz, and there is no self-service sign-up or price list to start from. A creator selling courses would need a separate course platform, since TestReach handles the exam rather than the teaching.
