What Quiz Maker is

Quiz Maker is a browser-based quiz and test builder made by an Australian software company that has been online since 2003. The About page says Martyn Stephens and Michael Hodge founded it that year "from a garage in Sydney", that it began as an online surveying tool and moved into quizzes and polls in 2008, and that the head office now sits on the Innovation Campus at the University of Wollongong in New South Wales. Quiz Maker is a registered business name of My Plaza Pty Ltd, registered for GST since 2004.

It is built for three kinds of user: teachers, tutors and trainers who want a test that grades itself; marketers, creators and shops who want quizzes that collect leads or recommend products; and HR and training teams running onboarding and compliance checks. It also has a study mode for learners who want to quiz themselves. The home page says you can start building without signing up, add an email when you save and publish, and that people taking a standard shared quiz never need an account.

Building a quiz

The editor has six tabs. Quiz is where questions are written: the home page counts 38+ question types, from multiple choice to file upload, and the FAQ lists checkboxes, true or false, matching, ranking, dropdown, short and long text, number, star and emoji rating, matrix, contact fields, payment and calculation among them. Questions and answers can carry images, video and audio, and there is a question library and a random question bank. Themes handles colors, fonts, background and logo, with saved themes reusable on the next quiz. Settings covers a countdown timer for the whole quiz or each question, shuffled questions and answers, page breaks, a progress bar, quiz login, access codes and open and close dates. Results decides what people see at the end: score, grade bands, pass mark, explanations, certificates, a leaderboard and redirects by result. Leads asks for a name and email at the moment someone wants their result. Share gives a direct link, QR code, social sharing, embed code for a website or intranet and email invitations.

The AI Quiz Generator, launched in 2023 according to the About page, drafts questions from a topic, notes, a URL or a PDF and puts them in the editor to check and edit before publishing; the guides page says a scored draft comes back in about 30 seconds. For a classroom or practice test the FAQ itself advises checking every answer against the source. There is also a library of 76 quiz templates, each a working quiz you can take and then copy, and a trivia maker with seven ready-made rounds and 786 questions.

Quiz types

The home page sorts the product into quiz types, each set from a dropdown:

  • Scored quiz or online test: mark the right answers, and every taker gets an instant score and your explanation.
  • Personality quiz: each answer points to an outcome you write ("Assign a Type").
  • Product recommendation quiz: answers match people to a product, with a link to buy. The guides page describes embedding it in Shopify or WooCommerce with results synced to Klaviyo or Mailchimp.
  • Lead capture quiz: a result traded for an email address, each lead tagged by its answers.
  • Trivia quiz or game: countdown timer and live leaderboard.
  • Training quiz: onboarding, product updates and SOPs, with results by person and by question.
  • Certification quiz: "Pass mark, access codes, certificate on a pass, audit trail."
  • Study mode: adaptive rounds that mark, explain and get harder as you improve.

For training that has to be evidenced, the certification setup combines a pass mark and grade bands, a certificate shown only on a pass, one-time access codes, quiz login and a timer for exam conditions, and an Excel export of every attempt, score and answer. These are certificates Quiz Maker generates for your own quiz; the site makes no accreditation claim for them.

Results, leads and integrations

Responses and scores land in a dashboard in real time. Paid plans list charting and tabular reports, results filtering, and CSV, Excel and PDF exports. On the Leads side, the home page names Zapier, Google Sheets, Mailchimp and a webhook, and the guides page describes pushing a finished lead into HubSpot. The pricing FAQ says Quiz Maker "integrates with more than 3,000 applications via Zapier", while the Team plan's feature list counts "2000+ Integrations" along with a JavaScript REST API, custom CSS and JavaScript plugins and a Facebook Pixel.

There is no app to install: the FAQ says it runs in the browser on any phone, tablet or computer, and the editor opens full screen on a phone. The site is offered in English, German, Spanish, French, Portuguese, Turkish, Indonesian and Japanese, and paid plans list multi-language translations for quizzes.

The pricing FAQ also says the Platinum and Premium subscriptions let you build online courses, a single URL through which students reach individual quizzes or full courses you created. Those plan names do not appear in the current price table.

Plans and prices

Prices are in US dollars, with a toggle for monthly and yearly billing ("Yearly (save 20%)"):

  • Starter, "Built for Small Classrooms": $29 a month billed yearly, 37 on the monthly listing. 200 responses a month, unlimited questions, 500MB storage, Quiz Maker branding, with timers, scheduled start and stop, calculated scoring, reports and exports.
  • Professional, "Built for Professionals/Educators", marked most popular: $49 a month billed yearly, 59 monthly. 2000 responses a month, 5 team accounts, 2.5GB storage, white label with no branding, plus grades, certificates, quiz logins, custom themes, lead capture and priority support.
  • Team, "Built for High Engagement": $149 a month billed yearly, 179 monthly. Unlimited responses, 10 team accounts, 5GB storage, and the integrations, API, custom code and redirect features above.
  • Student, "Built for Studying": for taking your own quizzes only; the page notes that quizzes on this plan "cannot be taken by others".

The free account (shown as Trial in the feature table) allows 2 quizzes, 25 total responses, 10 questions and no storage, with Quiz Maker branding and ads. The FAQ says a free quiz or survey that passes 25 responses is paused until the account is upgraded, and a response counts only when it is a unique completion that passed security and spam checks. Paid plans come with a free trial; the FAQ describes full access with no restrictions and no billing until the trial ends, cancellable from the Dashboard, and the pricing page advertises a flash sale of a 7 day free trial. Payment is by major cards or PayPal. Paid subscribers get priority support, and the FAQ says the team "generally respond within 24hrs". Cancellation and refund terms sit in the terms and conditions.

Scale and track record

The About page reports a global CDN across 19 countries with 99.99% uptime, more than 5,000 brands using the software, and quizzes answered by over 107 million people; the home page counts "117 million+ Quizzes taken on the platform". Named users on the About page include Nissan, which it says deployed the platform across more than 500 locations in 2004, the New South Wales State Government, and editorial teams at Nature and The New York Times. It cites a 4.5-star Trustpilot rating. The home page also publishes the Quiz Maker Benchmark 2026, built from 46.2 million completed attempts on the platform, with findings such as people who retook the same scored quiz rising from 55.3% to 76.9%, which the page says describes this platform and promises no outcome for yours.

Who it suits

Quiz Maker fits a teacher, trainer or small HR team that wants self-marking tests with pass marks, certificates and exports without a contract, and a marketer or shop that wants a lead capture or product quiz feeding Mailchimp, HubSpot or Zapier. The free account is enough to try the editor but stops at 25 responses, so anyone with an audience will need Starter or above, and white label, certificates and lead capture start at Professional. Quizzes are self-paced rather than host-led games. It is a quiz builder, not an LMS: beyond the course URL feature in the FAQ, the pages describe no enrollment, learner management or proctoring, so a school or certification body running high-stakes exams will want a dedicated assessment platform.
