Tap a star to rate

OnlineExamMaker is a web-based platform for building and running online exams, quizzes, surveys and training courses, sold to enterprises, schools and training institutions. Its About page calls it "a free online exam platform where you can create and distribute online exams, quizzes, surveys, and training courses in minutes" and says the company builds "easy-to-use, secure, and affordable e-learning software for schools, and enterprises of all sizes". The product line it lists is an online exam creator, a remote AI proctoring system, a learning management system, an online survey maker, and a LAN exam maker, the on-premise version with "100% data ownership". The company's case pages sign off "With love, from Guangzhou". For a school or training team, it covers the whole loop: write the questions, invite candidates, watch the attempt, grade it and issue a certificate, and optionally wrap the tests inside courses.

Building exams and question banks

The question bank takes multiple choice, fill in the blank, true/false, multiple response and essay questions, created one by one in a question editor or bulk imported from a file, with a duplicate check and an import record. Questions can carry images, video and audio, mathematical equations and symbols, and candidates can answer by uploading an attachment. Scoring options include negative scores and a choice ratio for choice questions. The AI Question Generator, in the site's words, can "Automatically generate questions for any topic".

Exams are assembled from pre-selected questions, random draws from the bank, or a part mode, with question randomization on top. The help center documents time limits, the number of times a candidate may take an exam, auto submit, full-screen mode, make-up exams, and adaptive testing, which has its own guide. Exams can be printed as paper copies, and a ranking list, transcripts and exam statistical analysis come afterwards. Candidates can retake the questions they got wrong after an exam. A prize quiz feature adds prizes and prize records for promotional quizzes, and the exam interface language can be set per exam.

Candidates, sharing and grading

Administrators add or batch import candidates, including candidate photos, group them, and assign an exam to a group, with custom login fields and a registration form to collect candidate details. Exams reach candidates by private link, embedding on a website or WordPress blog, email or SMS invitations, and social platforms, and the home page says exams work on laptops, phones and tablets. Candidates get their own panel to see exam categories and reports.

Objective questions are graded automatically, with results "instantly available to students", and reports show time taken, number of attempts and previous scores per learner. Essays can be graded by the admin or by sub admins, and the help center covers assigning grading tasks to other sub admins. The AI Exam Grader is described as able to "Automatically grade thousands of exam papers and generate reports for teachers & students." Certificates carry the candidate's name, date and score, and the certification maker lets organizers add their brand logo to downloadable certificates.

Proctoring and anti-cheating

The AI Exam Proctor is described as a "proctoring system with facial recognition, webcam proctoring and lockdown browser". The home page lists three controls: Live ID Verification, where the proctor compares the photo on the candidate's identity card with a real-time image and only approved candidates may start; a Secure Exam Browser that stops candidates opening a new browser or tab or searching for answers; and Live Monitoring, which records what students do and captures "suspicious cheating actions automatically". The help center adds face recognition, screen switching limits and watermarks. Face ID verification is billed as its own service.

LMS, selling and branding

The Online LMS puts courses and tests in one place. Teams create a course, upload or download courseware, insert test questions into a course, set learning permissions and anti-cheating for courses, and track learning records, notes, comments, Q&A records and course statistics. The home page frames it as a way to "Create custom certificates to acknowledge the training your teams have done." Public course cases on the site include a submarine cable certification course studied by 48 people, alongside language, geography, mathematics and cybersecurity courses, most studied by a handful of people.

Selling is built in: "Just complete the payment setting in your OnlineExamMaker dashboard and start selling immediately." Paid exams get their own signup form and sales reports. Each account has a homepage that can be customized, pointed at the organization's own domain, branded with a logo, and filled with articles and announcements. A survey module covers questionnaires with categories, sharing and data analysis.

Integrations and the LAN version

The help center's API and Integrations section covers generating codes, candidate information and group management, retrieving exam scores and reports, and Single Sign-On. The LAN Exam Maker has its own API, installs on Windows or Linux, and runs on a license code tied to a machine ID. The home page lists its advantages as self-hosting with 100% data ownership, access over LAN and the internet, choosing which country stores the data, free download and use, and a lifetime license with no subscription. The hosted version is pitched on easy setup, automatic updates, "GDPR compliant & user-privacy protection", "24/7 expedited customer support" and pay-as-you-go billing. The home page says the system is built on Apache, MySQL and Go and can deliver "tens of thousands of assessments simultaneously".

Plans and limits

The pricing page offers monthly or yearly billing ("Pay Yearly Save 20%") and a "14-day 100% money back guarantee", and the home page promises "No credit card required" and "100% free forever" for the free tier.

  • Free, "For Individuals to quiz for fun": 3 exams a month, 50 quiz attempts per exam per month, 150 total attempts a month, 10 concurrent exam takers, a 50-candidate limit, and a 2-field lead registration form.
  • Essentials, for small businesses and freelancers: 30 exams a month, 500 attempts per exam per month, 15000 total a month, 100 concurrent takers and 500 candidates (both scalable), a 3-field form, survey maker, and sub admins at additional charge.
  • Professional, for mid-size businesses and agencies: 200 exams a month, 2000 attempts per exam per month, 400000 total a month, 200 concurrent takers and 2000 candidates (both scalable), a 5-field form, survey maker, and sub admins at additional charge.
  • Premium, for enterprises, schools and government: unlimited exams and attempts, 500 concurrent takers and 3000 candidates (both scalable), unlimited form fields, 3 sub admins free with more paid, AI anti-cheating, and selling exams.

The billing section of the help center lists extra charges for quiz attempts, concurrent exam takers, candidate numbers, AI points, sub admin accounts, Face ID verification and the LMS, plus pages on the free trial and refund policy, payment methods and discounts. A shared demo login to a Premium account is published in the help center for anyone who wants to look around first.

Scale, support and languages

The home page reports 10 Million+ exams taken in total, 12,000+ a day, 900,000+ questions and 850,000+ candidates. Support runs through the help center and quickstart guide, email, live chat, a Facebook group and a Telegram group. The site itself is offered in English, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, traditional Chinese and Japanese. Three testimonials on the home page come from a teacher, Maryia Daneva, who praises the question bank and automatic grading; a trainer, Thomas Miller, who says the AI proctoring lets his team "assess our trainees outside of the classroom now"; and a digital marketer, Victor Lee, who says lead generation quizzes helped his eCommerce site "get qualified leads 10x faster".

Who it suits

OnlineExamMaker suits schools and training institutions that want one tool for question banks, proctored exams, grading and certificates, and that would rather start on a free plan and step up by exam volume than sign an enterprise contract. Training teams get a basic LMS to put materials and tests together. Coaches and small businesses can sell exams or run lead quizzes. Organizations that must keep exam data on their own servers have the LAN version, which installs on Windows or Linux and runs on a lifetime license. Teams that need deep course authoring or a large content library will find the LMS side lighter than the exam side.
