What Inspera is
Inspera is an end-to-end, cloud-based assessment platform for institutions that run exams and coursework at scale. Its home page describes a suite of five products that work together or on their own: Inspera Assessment for creating, delivering and grading assessments, Inspera Integrity Browser for locked-down delivery, Inspera Proctoring for remote monitoring, Inspera Originality for similarity checking and AI prediction, and Inspera Graide for marking and feedback. The company's tagline puts the range plainly: from coursework to high-stakes testing.
The reader here is an assessment team rather than an individual teacher: a university exams office, an awarding body, a K-12 school group or a corporate training department. The site's figures give a sense of scale. It reports 18M+ submissions delivered in the last 12 months, end users in 180+ countries, 185+ customers, and 25+ years as a leader in digital assessment, in its own words. The site itself is available in English, Spanish and German.
The assessment platform
Inspera Assessment is the core. The home page calls it a secure, scalable, end-to-end assessment solution and says customers choose the configuration that fits, whether the work is formative or summative, an exam or coursework, delivered open book or closed book. Menu sections point to item banks, formative assessment and feedback, and bring-your-own-device assessments, so the platform covers question authoring and reuse as well as delivery. The site says the web-based platform supports easy sign-in and includes built-in accessibility features, and it publishes separate accessibility and security statements.
For institutions moving off paper, Inspera presents itself as a partner in that shift rather than only a software license, and it says the platform comes with no hidden costs. It also claims reliability at scale, with thousands of simultaneous assessments running without compromise.
Lockdown browser and proctoring
Inspera Integrity Browser creates the controlled environment for an exam. According to the product description, it ranges from strictly locked down exams, where candidates see nothing but the exam paper, to assessments where candidates may open selected permitted materials. The institution decides what students can access.
Inspera Proctoring, the home page says, expands the exam hall with flexible, scalable remote monitoring, live or recorded. It supports camera, microphone, screen recording and room scanning, and works either inside Inspera Assessment or inside the institution's own LMS. A proctoring guide on the company's blog adds how the choice works in practice: an institution can pick, per exam, between recorded and live proctoring, and use either its own proctors or Inspera's. Live support is available 24 hours a day for teams in different time zones.
The same guide sets out how Inspera treats AI in proctoring. AI flags potential breaches, and the educator then watches as much of each recording as they need to decide whether anything suspicious happened. The company says it does not use "anti-cheating" rhetoric to sell proctoring, and it describes proctoring as a way to support exam integrity, not as a tool that catches students out. For a department worried about student pushback, that framing is worth reading in full.
Originality checking and grading
Inspera Originality handles similarity detection. The home page says it checks similarity across more than 30 languages, lets students refine their work with pre-checks before submission, and gives educators cohort analysis so they can see patterns across a group rather than one paper at a time. A blog excerpt on the home page adds that Originality also offers AI prediction, powered by Pangram, and claims it is 99.9% accurate for AI prediction with a 100x lower false positive rate than other industry tools. Those are the company's own figures.
Inspera Graide came to the company through an acquisition announced in its news section, which calls Graide a classification AI-assisted marking and feedback platform. The product page says Graide "uses classification, not generative AI," and builds tailored feedback for every student from the words written by the institution's own graders, not an LLM. The headline claim is that it can reduce marking time by 90% while applying the marker's judgment consistently across every cohort.
Integrations and standards
The home page FAQ answers the LMS question directly. Inspera Assessment supports LTI 1.1 and LTI 1.3, and integrations with Canvas, Moodle, Blackboard Learn, D2L Brightspace and Sakai are listed as fully tested. Other LMS platforms that comply with the LTI standard can also use the Inspera LTI support. Because each product can run standalone or connect to the others, an institution can start with one piece, such as Originality or Proctoring, and add the rest later.
The About menu mentions a partner network of resellers and integration partners, so in some regions a buyer may deal with a partner rather than with Inspera directly.
Who uses it
The site names four segments. Higher Education gets assessments with integrity and a good student experience so staff can grade and give feedback efficiently. Awarding bodies and governments get certification exams at scale with a quality assurance process. K-12 Education gets plagiarism detection and time back for staff. Corporate customers get secure digital assessments for training, professional certification and workforce development.
Testimonials on the home page come from universities. Dr Dee Scadden at the University of Cambridge writes that Inspera "hugely simplified our transition to digital assessments." Michael Sawyer at the University of London says the choice reflected the need to deliver "a huge range of assessment types, securely, to any setting anywhere in the world." The University of Oslo and the University of Surrey are quoted too, and a news item reports that Great Lakes Institute of Management selected Inspera for end-to-end assessment as part of an expansion to India.
Pricing and buying
The site publishes no prices; every route leads to booking a demo, where the company says its experts tailor the walkthrough to the institution's needs. That fits the audience, since contracts at this level depend on submission volumes, which products are licensed and whether Inspera's own proctors are used.
Who it suits
Inspera suits institutions that run a high volume of formal assessment and want delivery, integrity and marking in one system: universities with large exam seasons, awarding bodies running certification at scale, and school groups that need plagiarism checking alongside online tests. The per-exam choice between live and recorded proctoring, and between in-house and Inspera proctors, lets a single institution treat a final exam and a weekly quiz differently. The LTI support and the list of tested LMS integrations make it a practical add-on for a campus already on Canvas, Moodle or Blackboard.
It is a heavier choice for a single teacher or a small training team that only needs to build a quiz. The product is sold through demos and institutional contracts, not a self-serve signup, and much of its value lies in the integrity and proctoring layers that a low-stakes classroom quiz does not need. For organizations whose assessments carry real consequences, it is one of the more complete options in this category.
