What Spardha is

Spardha School of Music is an online music and dance school that teaches live classes with a teacher, either one-to-one or as a family group. Its FAQ describes it as "an online school for music and dance offering live classes", in 30- or 60-minute sessions, across 20+ instruments, vocal styles and dance forms. It is a learner product and a tutoring service: a child or adult books a free trial, is matched with a teacher and then follows a graded course on Spardha's own platform. The company behind it is Spardha Learnings Private Limited.

The FAQ says Spardha was founded in 2016 and is backed by Radio Mirchi, which the home page calls a strategic partner and investor, and that it has taught 40,000+ students in 16 countries through 800+ certified teachers. It names the countries as India, the US, UK, Canada, Australia, Singapore, UAE, New Zealand, Malaysia and Qatar, with classes scheduled in the student's time zone and many teachers specializing in teaching Indian classical arts to students abroad. The About page says the idea came from founders Saurabh and Amrita's own search for good guitar and keyboard training for their child, when the institutes they found were unrecognized, far from home or raised quality and safety concerns.

Courses and levels

The catalog covers instruments, singing and dance:

  • Instruments: piano, electronic keyboard, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, violin, ukulele, flute and tabla
  • Singing: Western, Hindustani, Carnatic and Bollywood vocals, plus film music courses in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada
  • Dance: Bharatanatyam, Kathak and Bollywood dance

Every course follows the same ladder. The courses page says a Foundation level of 6-8 months builds first skills for new learners, then Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced levels align with graded certifications, "for example Trinity Initial through Grade 8". New students start at the level their trial teacher assesses. Piano shows how deep it goes: its page runs from Spardha Piano Foundation and the Spardha Piano Method Books 1 to 3 through Rockschool Debut to Grade 8, Trinity Initial to Grade 8 and ABRSM Initial to Grade 8, with topics from posture, rhythm and staff notation up to seventh chords, ear training, improvisation and advanced arpeggios.

Exam boards differ by subject. The FAQ says piano, keyboard, acoustic and electric guitar, ukulele, violin and Western vocals prepare students for Trinity College London, ABRSM and Rockschool grades; Hindustani and Carnatic vocals follow the Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya grades; and Bharatanatyam and Kathak follow ISTD certification. The courses page adds that flute and tabla students also prepare for Gandharva certification. The FAQ says these credentials are recognized for university applications and professional careers worldwide.

How classes work

Getting started runs through a counselor. A student books a free 30-minute trial from any course page, a counselor calls to schedule it, and the trial teacher assesses the student's level; if it goes well, the student enrolls through the dashboard. Classes are live with a certified teacher, "Not Through Pre-Recorded Videos", at times the student picks: morning, evening, weekdays or weekends. Every enrolled student also gets free weekly Masterclasses, group sessions with Spardha's faculty heads for feedback, theory and community learning.

The platform supports the lessons. Students get Spardha Books and practice videos, tools such as a metronome, sheet music and backing tracks, and a virtual studio to record their own songs, all from the student dashboard, and the Spardha Learner App is available on all devices. For piano, the page says a student needs a digital keyboard or piano, a stable internet connection and a laptop. After enrolling, a counselor helps choose an instrument model that fits the student's budget, and students can add or switch instruments later.

Certification is built into the course. A student submits a skill evaluation video, and the final assessment combines a video answering theory questions with a performance piece. Students receive a Spardha completion certificate and can also earn certificates from ABRSM, Trinity or Rockschool, with Spardha's teachers guiding them through the application and the exam video.

Prices

Prices are shown per session. On the piano page, Spardha Piano Foundation (6-8 months) costs EUR 19 per 60-minute session, Spardha Piano Method Book 2 (8-10 months, for students who have been learning for over 18 months) costs EUR 21 per session, and Method Book 3 (10-12 months) costs EUR 26 per session. The trial is free, and the site also sells a couples coupon, gift experiences and corporate programs.

Teachers, performance and support

The home page profiles teachers such as Sudha Lachyan (Hindustani vocals, Sangeet Visharad, ABGMVM, 25+ years' experience), Abhinav Kishore (guitar, RSL Guitar Grade 8 certified, 10+ years), Dr. Arpitha Hebbar (Carnatic vocals, 15+ years), Dorin (Western vocals, Trinity Grade 8) and Swapnil Katwe (piano, RSL Classical Grade 5). The teaching page describes a recruitment process of online application, shortlisting, video interview and training, and a 5-level growth plan for teachers leading to Subject Matter Expert.

Performance is part of the program. The piano page lists the Spardha digital stage (solo YouTube performances, live recitals, Spotify and live digital performances), the chance to compete in Spardha Idol, to compose for Spardha Originals and to become a Spardha certified music teacher. The home page announces Spardha Idol Season 2, with the Pune city round finished and other cities to follow.

The FAQ says Spardha is rated 4.8/5 on Google from 1,600+ reviews and has delivered over 10 lakh live classes since 2016. The home page promises a 24/7 dedicated customer support team, and the FAQ page invites students to chat with that team.

Who it suits

Spardha suits families who want a live teacher at home and a clear exam route: a child working toward Trinity, ABRSM or Rockschool grades on piano or guitar, a student of Hindustani or Carnatic music taking Gandharva exams, or a young dancer preparing for ISTD. The courses FAQ suggests keyboard, piano and vocals as starting points at age 6, guitar from 7 and violin from 5 or 6. Adults are welcome too: the site runs adult programs with flexible pacing for working professionals, and its oldest student started learning at 53. Families abroad who want Indian classical music taught in their own time zone are a natural fit.

The model is personal tuition, so the cost grows with every session booked, and group learning is limited to family classes and the weekly masterclasses.
