What it is
30 Day Singer is an online singing lesson platform. Its FAQ describes it as a service "that will help you improve your singing in 30 days and beyond," built on video lessons and tutorials "led by professional vocal coaches" covering breathing exercises, pitch control, vocal warmups, performance tips and more. The home page headline promises to help learners "Become A Better Singer In Only 30 Days!"
The site organizes its material into five learning paths: Beginner Courses, Ear Training and Harmony, Vocal Techniques, Style and Performance, and Free Lessons. Its feature list adds 30 Day Beginner Courses, Style Studies, Advanced Vocal Techniques, Performance Training and Singing Feedback. Inside the member area, learners get a lesson history, favorites, the Singing Feedback section, live streams and a link to book private lessons.
Free lessons and the free trial
There are two ways to try it before paying. A free account opens the free lesson set; the site says "Get All 10 Free Lessons By Making A Free Account!" Those lessons are a good sample of the teaching. Camille van Niekerk and Abram Poliakoff each lead a "Your First Singing Lesson" with a beginner warmup and key terms. Camille's How To Sing In Tune for Beginners and a practice routine for better intonation tackle pitch, which the page calls "the most important factor in learning how to sing well." Further free lessons cover mixed voice, a daily warmup of 8 exercises, vibrato, removing vocal strain, finding your breath with Jonathan Estabrooks, sustaining long notes and building a richer tone for low voices, daily pop practice for high voices, and making any song your own.
The second option is a free trial. The FAQ says to "Utilize the 30 Day Singer free trial for 14 days which will give you Full Access to all lesson videos, exercises and even feedback." The site also offers a free PDF guide, "25 Steps To Become A Better Singer," covering vocal range, warmups and exercises.
On price, the home page banner advertised a Black Friday deal: "Get a $549 Bundle for just $99." The site does not list standard Full Access prices. It also sells gift certificates and runs an affiliate program.
Ear training and harmony
The Ear Training and Harmony section is one of the most developed, with 27 tutorials that can be filtered for high or low voices. The site explains why it matters: recognizing pitches improves intonation and rhythm and makes it easier to harmonize with other singers. Examples include:
- Chord Qualities with Abram, which teaches singers to recognize and sing major, minor, augmented, diminished and 7th chords and ends with an interactive ear training test.
- Minor Scale Ear Training, a five-lesson tutorial built around the folk song "Wayfaring Stranger," and Minor Scale Riffs, which moves from simple 3-note riffs to 5-note riffs and improvisation over minor progressions.
- Blues Scale Ear Training for Beginners with Camille, working from chromatic movement and the pentatonic scale to the major and minor blues scales, practiced in multiple keys.
- Practice Singing in Harmony, five parts using "O Susanna" to teach harmonies in 3rds and 6ths and chordal harmonies.
- Daily Intonation Practice series for high and low voices, focused on pitch matching and on the major scale and intervals, plus Rhythm For Beginners, covering compound meter and syncopation.
Style lessons and live streams
Style teaching runs across genres. Camille's instructor page lists 240 tutorials, among them How To Sing Folk Music (light mix, belt mix and folk phrasing using "Shenandoah" and "Wayfaring Stranger"), an easy beginner version of "Wayfaring Stranger" in B minor, How to Sing Country with "Oh, Susanna" and "Home on the Range," and Strengthen Your Voice. Her How To Sing In Tune lesson teaches singers to check their pitch first with a chromatic tuner and then by listening for dissonance, which the page says is especially helpful for people learning to sing without a private teacher.
Live streams are a regular part of the program. An upcoming session with Camille covers vocal range extension for each register, and the archive of previous live streams holds 249 sessions. Recent ones include Crooning Vocal Style, Folk Music, Singing In Minor, Intro to Sight-Singing, How To Find Your Vocal Registers, a two-week Jazz Favorites series on swung timing, chromaticism and stylistic vibrato, learning a song from start to finish with American folk songs, Classical Vocals, Jazz Vocal Style for Beginners, and Frustrations for Beginning Singers, which deals with the roadblocks that make new singers give up.
The coaches
The instructor page gives each coach a full biography, which helps a learner choose whose style to follow.
- Camille van Niekerk is a singer, writer and vocal instructor in Southern California. She earned a BA in Music Education at Azusa Pacific University, studying classical and jazz voice, then a teaching credential from San Diego State University, and runs a private studio offering vocal coaching, ear training and recording for students of all ages. She sings with the L.A. Choral Lab and Ensoma Creative.
- Abram Poliakoff holds a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Arts from USC's Thornton School of Music, is Associate Artistic Director and a tenor in the L.A. Choral Lab, and teaches Classical, Jazz, Folk and Popular music. He has sung with the San Francisco Opera and Pocket Opera. His stated aim is to help students "find their authentic and healthy voice while maximizing genre flexibility and a naturalness of expression."
- Jonathan Estabrooks is a Juilliard-trained baritone working in opera, musical theater and crossover, with debuts at Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center.
- Reagan James is an R&B singer-songwriter who reached the Top 10 on season 7 of NBC's The Voice.
- Mark Mekailian is a vocalist, songwriter and producer from USC's Popular Music program.
The page also features the duo O&O, Jon Statham and producer Jameson Tabor. Camille, Abram and Jameson each have a "Book a Private Lesson" button for one-to-one coaching.
Who it suits
30 Day Singer suits beginners who want a structured, low-pressure start, with free first lessons, a clear emphasis on singing in tune and warming up properly, and coaches who explain the basics step by step. Intermediate singers get genre work in folk, country, jazz, crooning and classical, plus a deep ear training section for harmony and riffs. The live-stream archive and Singing Feedback add a layer of contact with the coaches, and private lessons are there for anyone who wants one-to-one coaching.
The caveat is pricing visibility. Apart from the free account, the 14-day trial and the seasonal bundle offer, the site does not show what Full Access or private lessons cost.
