What ELSA Speak is

ELSA Speak is an English speaking app built around AI feedback on pronunciation, fluency and confidence. It is a learner product first: an individual downloads the app, gets a personalized learning path and practices speaking against an AI that scores and corrects them. Around that core the company sells two organizational products, ELSA Business for companies and ELSA Schools for K-12 institutions, plus an ELSA API. The home page headline calls it the "#1 AI English Speaking App for Fluency and Confidence," and the page shows a 4.9-star review rating, 92M+ downloads and a claim that 90M+ learners have joined.

The audience list on the home page is broad: working professionals, job seekers preparing for English interviews, students, travelers, expats and international students, learners who pick up English from movies, shows and podcasts, self-learners who want structure, and anyone who wants to speak more naturally in daily conversation.

How practice works

ELSA's pitch starts from the idea that no two learners are alike. The site says its AI customizes every lesson and builds a learning path shaped by the learner's level, goals, progress, preferred accent and industry focus. Feedback arrives in real time and, in the site's words, is "tuned to your voice," so the learner knows what to fix in each lesson. Visual dashboards track improvement over time across skill areas.

For beginners there is a Bilingual AI Tutor: they can start conversations in their native language and move into English gradually, which the site presents as a way to make the switch less intimidating. The Individual plan lists learning English in your native language as one of its features.

Conversation practice runs through AI role-play. Learners hold realistic, interactive conversations with the AI across a range of scenarios and get instant feedback, and interactive avatars act as practice partners, which the site says helps learners stay engaged and remember what they practiced. One learner testimonial singles out the "Surprise me" conversations, where every scenario is unpredictable.

The coaches

A set of named coaches targets specific situations:

  • Workplace Coach covers work conversations such as meetings, presentations and giving feedback, aiming at clearer, more professional speech.
  • Interview Coach works through typical interview questions so learners can refine answers and make a strong impression.
  • Dating Coach practices casual, real-life conversation in social and dating scenarios.
  • Meeting Coach focuses on sharing ideas, responding to others and staying engaged in group discussions.
  • Presentation Coach rehearses how a learner explains ideas, structures a message and keeps a steady, clear pace.

The site also describes a Professional AI Tutor for workplace scenarios including presentations, public speaking, meetings, sales calls, negotiations and interviews. A learner testimonial refers to this as ELSA Professional.

Content and assessment

The Individual plan lists special lessons from top global publishers, naming HarperCollins, Pearson and Oxford University. A Speech Analyzer gives detailed feedback and test-score predictions. The site's menu also points to How to Pronounce and Quick Evaluation tools, an ELSA Shop and subscriptions, and resources on vocabulary, grammar and targeted English. On the method, the home page describes a communicative focus, task-based activities around presentations, interviews and workplace scenarios, and a goal of fluency and intelligibility so the speaker is understood in any global context.

Plans and pricing

The pricing section lists four plans:

  • Individual, with an upgrade available. It includes the personalized learning path, AI role-plays, instant feedback on every lesson, learning English in your native language, publisher lessons, the Speech Analyzer with test-score predictions and progress tracking.
  • Team, for 2-49 users, priced per user per month or per user per year, with a free trial. It adds workplace-ready learning content, practice that draws on real workplace conversations, and progress tracking and reporting.
  • Business, for 50+ learners, on custom pricing. The /en version of the page lists proficiency scores mapped to CEFR, IELTS, TOEIC and more, content tailored to the industry and roles, exportable performance reports with ROI tracking, individual skill-level tracking and dedicated support from onboarding to full adoption. Add-ons are custom branding, AI learning tailored to the company and a Business API for LMS and HRIS integration. Enterprise administration covers SSO, LMS integration, APIs and centralized learner management, alongside what the page calls enterprise-grade security and compliance. Practice can be built around a company's own terminology, workflows and training materials.
  • School, for 21+ learners, also on custom pricing. Students practice independently at any time; teachers build curriculum-aligned lessons in minutes, use AI-generated content to cut prep work, draw on a library of role-plays, share progress reports with parents and leadership, and manage every class from one dashboard. A smart dictionary builds vocabulary in context.

The page shows no figures for the Individual upgrade or the Team per-user price; Business and School are quoted after contact or a demo.

ELSA Business

ELSA Business is pitched at companies developing frontline and global teams, with role-specific communication coaching for meetings, pitches and client interactions rather than general English knowledge. The page quotes results from a customer named Mitra Prodin: 100% activation across all 70 learners, and 61% advancing one CEFR level. A figure the page credits to ELSA's own 2026 data says 3 in 4 report stronger workplace communication within 3 months. The page also states a 300% projected ROI for organizations with 1,000+ employees, says 80% of businesses report improvement in customer retention, satisfaction and sales revenue, and counts 1,300+ organizations served globally. These are the company's own figures.

ELSA Schools

ELSA Schools gives K-12 institutions a tool for the classroom and for home, personalized per learner and measurable per teacher, with the stated aim of improving proficiency without adding to teacher workload. The page cites $400-800 in projected savings per student yearly, credited to IDC and ELSA (2025), and reports that at Hoang Mai Star School 58% of students advanced one full CEFR level, with 70% active learners per week. It also states that 90% of teachers say technology helps them assess learning more effectively, that 43% of students showed measurable improvement in 3 months, and that ELSA has users in schools in 193+ countries.

What learners report

For individuals, the page says 95% feel more confident speaking English, 90% improve their pronunciation and 68% speak more clearly. Four testimonials follow. Roxana L. from Venezuela says the coaches in ELSA Professional helped her at work and she would like more of them. Hildebranto S. from Canada credits the AI Coach and real-time feedback with better fluency. Yuliia S. from Ukraine likes speaking freely and getting patient corrections. Stefano Del F. from Italy says 20 minutes a day improved his vocabulary and comprehension.

Who it suits

ELSA Speak fits learners whose main problem is speaking: pronunciation, clarity and nerves in real conversations. Professionals preparing for meetings, presentations or job interviews get coaches built for exactly those moments, and beginners can lean on the bilingual tutor while they find their feet. Learners working toward a test get score predictions from the Speech Analyzer.

For organizations, the Team plan covers groups of 2-49 users with a free trial, while Business suits companies of 50 learners or more that want CEFR-mapped scores, reporting, SSO and HR or LMS integration. Schools get a K-12 product with class dashboards and parent reports.

The caveats are about scope. ELSA is a speaking app, so learners who want reading and writing instruction or human teachers will need something alongside it. Team prices are not printed on the page. Within its focus, it is a well-developed, AI-led speaking coach with a clear path from one learner to a whole school or workforce.
