ST Math

Tap a star to rate

ST Math is a PreK-8 supplemental math program from MIND Education, sold to schools and districts and also offered to homeschooling families. It sits on the learner side of this directory, for children from pre-kindergarten to grade 8, with a strong school-team angle: teachers assign it, track it and fold it into class instruction. The program page describes it as helping students "build deep conceptual understanding through visual-first learning, problem solving, and immediate feedback," so they understand how math works rather than memorizing procedures. It is designed to run alongside a school's existing materials; in MIND's words, "Used alongside any core curriculum, ST Math strengthens conceptual understanding, builds persistence, and develops the problem-solving skills students need to access grade-level math."

How students learn in ST Math

The core of the product is a sequence of visual puzzles. Instead of opening with formulas and vocabulary, each puzzle presents a mathematical idea as something to explore and solve on screen, and only later connects it to symbols, language and procedures. MIND calls this spatial-temporal reasoning, "the natural human ability to understand how things relate, move, and change over time," and builds the program around it.

Students are guided by a character called JiJi. As they work through a puzzle, they try an idea, see an animation of what their choice does, and adjust. The program page lists the design principles behind this:

  • Concepts before symbols: ideas are experienced visually first, then tied to notation.
  • Visual feedback in the moment: animated feedback shows the mathematical consequences of a choice so the student can revise their thinking.
  • Productive struggle: students test ideas, learn from mistakes and keep working through hard problems.
  • Mastery before progression: puzzles adapt and build in complexity, so understanding comes before moving on.
  • Access beyond language: visual models reduce language barriers, which the site presents as giving more students an entry point.
  • Thinking made visible: Math Puzzle Talks and class conversations ask students to explain and extend what they learned.

MIND describes this as "A patented approach designed around how students build understanding." Its Why MIND page sets the product against programs that put worksheets on screens or turn lectures into videos, arguing that math instruction "hasn't truly evolved in over a century" and that MIND has used neuroscience and technology to change how students experience math "for decades." The page frames ST Math as visual, game-based active learning rather than gamified practice. A principal quoted on the program page, Stephanie Auday of Adams 12 Schools, puts the result in one line: "A year later, students still remember how they solved their ST Math puzzles."

What teachers and schools get

The program page groups the teacher side into three sets of tools. To plan and personalize, teachers get a standards-aligned curriculum, flexible assignments and pacing, curriculum integration resources and classroom management tools. To extend the learning, there are Math Puzzle Talks, teacher-led visual models, ready-to-use lesson resources and connections to grade-level instruction. To monitor and support, there are real-time student insights, progress and performance reporting, diagnostics and targeted intervention. ST Math fits whole-group instruction, small groups and independent student work.

Day to day, teachers work from an educator dashboard that tracks real-time student progress. For grades 2 to 6, embedded pre- and post-quizzes for each objective measure learning, and these assessments are available in English and Spanish. For grades 6 to 8, a Diagnostics & Intervention area pinpoints learning gaps. For students in grades 2 to 8 who need extra support, ST Math reads assessment scores from NWEA MAP Growth, Renaissance Star Math and other providers and automatically assigns targeted content based on each student's needs.

Professional learning comes in several forms: self-paced modules, live training and in-person workshops, plus coaching and strategies aligned with a school's goals. An extensive help center carries classroom strategies and pacing guides, and the site says educators have on-demand guidance, implementation resources and technical support.

MIND's site also lists solution areas the program addresses: expanded learning, multilingual learners, mathematical discourse, family engagement and special education, and a family math game night resource sits among its pages.

The program family

ST Math is the K-8 supplemental program in a small set. MIND's programs page lists comprehensive foundational math for students in Pre-K and TK (ST Math Early Learning), flexible summer learning for students in grades K-5, and a homeschool version, ST Math at Home, described as "Meaningful math learning for homeschool learners in grades K-8." Families reach it through the site's Homeschool section; a school or district starts with a demo request or the Try ST Math link.

Research MIND cites

The program page states that ST Math "holds ESSA's highest evidence rating, supported by four third-party studies," labeled ESSA Tier 1. It also reports 500,000+ students studied and more than 150 district studies across four consecutive years showing consistent impact, and says national analyses show comparable learning gains across student populations. Across independent studies, it says, students using ST Math show stronger math achievement than comparable students who do not use it. These are MIND's summaries of its own research base, which it details on Equity and Outcomes, Validation and Methodology and Research Portal pages. An Awards and Patents page sits under About MIND.

Pricing and the 2025-26 offer

The site lists no standard prices, and its special offer page collects a school's details through a form before sending pricing. A special offer page for the 2025-26 school year spells out what a school package includes: an annual ST Math software license for all students, teachers and administrators, comprehensive implementation support, access to MIND University on-demand professional learning modules, embedded program help and tutorials, and virtual professional learning at a special offer rate. The offer was limited to new customers and expansion sites buying between November 1, 2025 and March 31, 2026, with the subscription starting at purchase and free access for the rest of the 2025-2026 school year. The site footer links to a Privacy Policy and a SOC Compliance page.

Who it suits

ST Math fits elementary and middle schools that want a visual, puzzle-based supplement to whatever core curriculum they already teach, and that will use the dashboard, assessments and Puzzle Talks rather than treat it as a standalone app. Districts that already test with NWEA MAP Growth or Renaissance Star Math get automatic intervention assignments from those scores. Schools with many multilingual learners may value the visual-first design, which the site says reduces language barriers, and the English and Spanish assessments. Homeschooling families with children from kindergarten to grade 8 have their own version.

It suits other readers less. It is a supplement, not a full core math curriculum for grades K-8, and it stops at grade 8. Families or schools that want to see a price before talking to sales will need to fill in the pricing form.
