What Corporate Finance Institute is
Corporate Finance Institute, usually shortened to CFI, is an online training provider for finance work: financial modeling, valuation, FP&A, commercial banking, capital markets, wealth management, business intelligence and, more recently, AI in finance. Its About page calls it "the global leader for practical, job-ready finance training and certification", and the company timeline on the same page says CFI was founded in 2016 by Tim Vipond and MDA Training, with the FMVA certification launched in 2017. The home page reports 3M+ registered users, 190+ countries represented and 85K+ professionals certified, and the About page adds 5M+ course enrollments.
The product is one catalog sold as a membership. A learner does not buy a certification program on its own: the pricing FAQ says every certification, specialization and course is included in an all-access membership, so the real decision is which tier to take. The same catalog is sold to employers as CFI for Teams and offered to universities, which is why CFI sits in this directory as a finance course provider, a training library for finance teams and a source of CPE credits for accountants.
Certifications and specializations
The pricing page counts 7 accredited certification exams and 15 skill-focused specialization programs inside the membership. The seven certifications named on the site are FMVA (Financial Modeling & Valuation Analyst), FPAP (Financial Planning & Analysis Professional), BIDA (Business Intelligence & Data Analyst), CBCA (Commercial Banking & Credit Analyst), CMSA (Capital Markets & Securities Analyst), FPWMP (Financial Planning & Wealth Management Professional) and FTIP (FinTech Industry Professional). FMVA is the flagship, shown on the home page with a 4.9 rating from 36,855 ratings. The FPWMP description says no prior experience is necessary, which makes it one of the easier entry points for newcomers.
Specializations are shorter, focused paths. The home page lists FP&A, Leadership Effectiveness, Data Analysis in Excel, Business Intelligence Analyst, Data Science Analyst, Cryptocurrencies and Digital Assets, Commercial Real Estate Finance, Excel Skills for Professionals, ESG in Finance and Investing, ESG for Strategy and Compliance, AI for Finance, Accounting for Financial Analysts, Investment Banking & Private Equity Modeling, Risk Management, and Finance for Non-Finance Managers.
On pacing, the pricing FAQ says most learners complete a certification in about 3 to 6 months while studying around 8 to 10 hours a week, and that specializations can often be finished in 2 to 4 weeks. Every completed program earns a digital, blockchain-verified certificate that can go on LinkedIn and a resume. The student FAQ says certifications never expire and carry no renewal or maintenance fee; what renews each year is access to the course content, which is tied to the annual subscription.
Courses and how learning works
Beneath the certifications sits a library the site counts at 250+ courses, with new and updated courses added regularly. Courses shown on the home page include Financial Analysis Fundamentals, 3-Statement Modeling, Advanced Excel Formulas & Functions, Monthly Cash Flow Modeling, Scenario & Sensitivity Analysis in Excel, DCF Valuation Modeling Fundamentals, Power BI Financial Statements and Real Estate Financial Modeling. The work is Excel-heavy and built around models: learners download ready-to-use Excel models and templates, work through case studies and build three-statement and valuation models from scratch.
The pricing page lists the learning features in every plan: personalized learning recommendations, multilingual captions, interactive quizzes, assessments and case studies, flashcards for course review, and the CFI App for studying on a phone. Subtitle translations cover 20+ languages, though the page notes that the available languages vary by course. A Career Map recommends learning by role, and the home page mentions career podcasts on the CFI mobile app.
All of it is self-paced and on demand. According to the support answer in the FAQ, every member gets the learner community, resources and continuous updates, while Full-Immersion members add premium email support and personal feedback on their models.
Membership plans and prices
Individual pricing is published in USD per year. Self-Study, described as self-paced learning with unlimited access to all courses and certifications, is listed at $347.90 a year, shown as 30% off a $497 price. Full-Immersion is $592.90 a year, shown as 30% off $847. Full-Immersion adds Ask an Expert, with 5 finance questions a week answered by experts, an AI Tutor built into every course, personalized review of the learner's course models, premium job-ready templates and guides, and $300+ in partner discounts on tools including PitchBook, FinChat, Koyfin and IBISWorld. The student FAQ says a Self-Study member can upgrade to Full-Immersion at any time.
Students get 50% off by signing up with a university email address: $248.50 a year for Self-Study and $423.50 for Full-Immersion, renewing at 50% off until canceled. A student whose university issues no email address can submit other proof of current enrollment, such as a dated student ID card, enrollment letter, class schedule, tuition receipt or transcript.
The billing terms are clearly stated. There is no monthly option; memberships are billed annually, auto-renew by default, and auto-renewal can be turned off in account settings. Payment is by major credit or debit card (Visa, MasterCard and American Express) and is processed in USD only, with any conversion handled by the card issuer. Visitors from India, Indonesia, Egypt, Nigeria and the Philippines are pointed to regional CFI sites with local pricing.
Before paying, anyone can open a free CFI account. The FAQ says it opens the introductory videos of virtually every course in the catalog, full access to the Careers in Finance course covering investment banking, private equity and financial planning, and the free library of finance templates, cheat sheets and guides.
CPE credits and recognition
For accountants and other credentialed professionals, the plans include what the pricing page calls 575+ verifiable CPE/CPD credits, and the home page says CPE credits are earned for each course completed. The About page links to guidance on earning CPE credits for CPAs in the United States and around the world. Under the heading "Recognized By" it names the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA), the London Institute of Banking & Finance (LIBF) and the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). The About timeline says LIBF accredited the FMVA, CBCA, CMSA, BIDA, FPWMP and FTIP programs in 2025, and the home page says CFI is now endorsed by the Higher Learning Commission, which it describes as an accreditor of 1,000 of the top U.S. colleges and universities that also endorses training providers meeting its standards.
CFI for Teams and partnerships
CFI for Teams sells the same catalog to employers. The teams page sets out four steps: select a team plan aligned with the organization's size and goals, give staff access to courses and certifications in modeling, FP&A and capital markets, establish consistent skills across the finance team, and track progress as the organization grows. It speaks to executives, finance managers and L&D teams, and gives reasons such as reducing ramp-up time for new hires and replacing fragmented training with a single program. Case studies feature Ali Zaid Al-Quraishi & Brothers, Tru Cooperative Bank and SilverChef, the last of which used CFI to upskill employees in financial analysis and credit decision-making. Team prices sit on a separate team pricing page, and the teams page offers a demo or a call with sales.
The partnerships page covers larger programs: training companies that want to use the CFI catalog as the curriculum for in-person or live training, workforce development projects, and organizations serving under-represented communities. Its example is a partnership with ALX that trained 30,000 individuals in Africa. The same page says CFI is "Rated #1 for Online Finance Courses by G2".
What learners say
The testimonials on the About and pricing pages are specific. Daniele, who already held an MBA, writes that "The value for money is immense" and that "The program is very hands-on". Gabriel Gaete says the FMVA "helped me to understand what it is the required benchmark in the industry." Sue Wairimu writes, "The instructors were top-notch. The training material is truly unmatched." On the home page, Chris Caldwell, a CFA charterholder, says the FMVA "only took me about 60-70 hours to complete". The company's own figures say over 96% of learners improved how they build models, analyze data and deliver insights at work, and over 93% felt better prepared for roles in FP&A, investment banking and corporate finance.
Who it suits
CFI fits finance students, analysts and career changers who want Excel-based, model-building skills and a certification to show for them, especially in corporate finance, FP&A, banking and valuation. Accountants who need CPE credits get them inside the same membership, and finance managers can roll the catalog out to a whole department through CFI for Teams.
The caveats are about format and billing. Membership is annual only and charged in USD, individual certifications cannot be bought separately, and the learning is self-paced and on demand; the closest thing to a personal tutor is the Full-Immersion tier's AI Tutor and weekly expert questions. A learner unsure about the teaching style can judge it first through the free account's introductory videos.
